Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Can we lighten up on the doomsday scenarios?

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

A consequence of cucumbers

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

Democrats have delivered the Square Deal, the New Deal, the Fair Deal, and now… the Big Joe Biden Deal.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Donald Trump, welcome to your everything, everywhere, all at once.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

So many bastards, so little time.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. don’t touch it.”

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Let there be snark.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Bogus polls are all they’ve got left. Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls a year from now.

‘Tire rims & anthrax’ watch:

I swear Florida could be voting between ice cream and a kick to the head and the results would be 50.5%-49.5%.

Adam — who lives there, remember — says both the Senate and gubernatorial races will be going to mandatory recounts. Hopefully under adult supervision.

Also on the plus side:

No matter what the final tally, we need to get a new, comprehensive, nation-wide Voting Rights Act in place… yesterday!

Imagine if there were a law whereby states with a history of racial discrimination in voting had to demonstrate to federal officials that moving a polling place or making voting changes wouldn't make minority voters worse off. https://t.co/AyS81nA53L

Silver lining side, all those new young (would-be) voters are seeing, in real time, just how important participating at *all* levels of government is…

@Mary G: I feel like Chris Murphy has played the role of the moral center of the Democrats in the Senate. It could be because of his passion for gun control after Sandy Hook but I also felt he was an incredibly strong and honest voice when drumming up popular opposition to the the Republican effort at Obamacare repeal. In the past six months, I’ve noticed that he’s been the first to point out what we or our allies are doing in the Middle East. A firebrand he’s not, but he has authenticity on his side.

“The House of Delegates now looks more like Virginia. On second thought, actually the Democrats look almost exactly like Virginia, and the Republicans are almost entirely a party of old white men.”
