Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Take your GOP plan out of the witness protection program.

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Second rate reporter says what?

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Let’s finish the job.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

In my day, never was longer.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Not all heroes wear capes.

I’ve been away from the blog all day. Have we discussed this? Drudge deleted his feed (his account is still active) and Foxnews hasn’t had a tweet since 11/8. Is something going on? That’s all weird, right?

First, the police interacted w/ the protestors as they were leaving & they didn’t arrest anyone.

They actually saw the person spray-paint the anarchist symbol on the driveway.

The protestors were walking away slowly. Two walked with canes (yes). No one tried to run.

If the police had received a frantic 911 call from Mrs. Carlson saying she was terrified, had locked herself in her pantry & people were trying to break into her house, there is no way that the police would have let the protestors go. They would have made arrests.

    Surprise, surprise. Carlson lied.

    @?BillinGlendaleCA:
Fun fact: there was a girl I knew in HS, who was a year ahead of me, in my chemistry class who was a sort of nasty person at the time. One day, during class, we were working in a group and she misheard my name. She didn’t particularly like me and in an annoyed voice said, “I thought your name was Brian.” When corrected, she said she liked “Brian” better and made a point to call me by that name whenever she could.

Fast forward two years later at college and we run into each other. I said hi and introduced myself. She remembered me and seemed much nicer. When I introduced myself, I said, about my name, “I can tell you one thing, it’s not ‘Brian'” as a joke. She then actually insisted that’s what my name was! That was so weird.

    @TaMara (HFG):
David Wallace-Wells (NYMag) is good. This sequence is art:
In California, Climate Change Has Turned Rainy Season Into Fire Season (Nov 12, 2018)

November always marked the beginning of rainy season in California. Now it is fire season.

In the California of that future, every season would be fire season. In fact, that is already how climate scientists and firefighters are now describing the state’s wildfire season: year-round.

Against that possible future, the simple inversion of November from rainy season to fire season is a powerful poetic reversal — and a sort of map for how all of us will wake up to climate horrors in the decades ahead.

    A reminder of what’s important.

Here's why this matters. On the eve of election night, we filed suit against the SoS' office, saying that they recklessly publicized over and over a MAJOR vulnerability in the state's registration database.

    — Stephen Fee (@stephenmfee) November 13, 2018

My colleague @myrna_perez_ argued in court that if there were a significantly higher number of provisional ballots cast, that could indicate that there are problems with the database and that the state needed to act to ensure those ballots weren't wrongly discounted.

    — Stephen Fee (@stephenmfee) November 13, 2018

AND the state has to turn over information about all the provisional ballots. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

There have been terrible fires in California that killed people, but not like this. The worst I can remember is one in San Diego County near Julian. People in a remote area relied on a phone tree and no one called them, and they were trapped in their homes.

Mr opiejeanne’s brother lived in the canyon in Paradise when he was going to Chico state, and we visited him once. Nice place, lots of retired people there. The parents of an ex-bf from HS lived there but they’re gone now, I think.

@Adam L Silverman: if your friend is disturbed by Kelly’s actions in this administration, that’s a pretty good indicator that Kelly is pretty good at showing bits of himself and keeping larger parts hidden from friends that wouldn’t approve.

And despite seeing Putin, he had a very rough weekend.

Despite, or because? For example, Putin may have said something like “The Magnitsky Act is still US law, and the Democratic House will never repeal it. You are worse than useless. I have ordered my people to cooperate with Mr. Mueller and, should you still be in office in two years, will release the kompromat photos during the 2020 election season.”

lets just say, as speculation…. that Mueller is awaiting the majority of the shoes to finish dropping in this election and then, we begin to see the indictments start to fall… lets say that he starts with the ratfuckers, Corsi and Stone and locks them up on perjury to start with and squeezes them. He also has Trump Jr and DJT himself on perjury, but lets say he back burners the Liar In Chief and puts the manacles on the son… what could the ratfuckers give up that matters the most to all of us? I’m guessing the coordination of the Russians with the Trump campaign and perhaps even the GOP itself in money, logistics and strategy in applying that cash and misinformation to where it would do the most good. The ratfuckers would have to be the tools to implement that strategy, as such, they would need to have something to do and a purpose to achieve it.

If this is where the screws are being turned, how much sense does it make for the powers that be that coordinated all of the dissemination of that information to be shitting bricks?

    I think very….

Which I believe has something to do with why Rupert Baby and The Turtle are meeting because they have to come up with a game plan to spin this shit away from themselves and provide some cover for the continuing GOP obstruction and having to cook up another distraction that safely shifts the spotlight away from themselves as they attempt to perform additional damage control…..

    at least I think that’s a semi-plausible possibility… ymmv

Well a lot of them got jail time after Nixon. 48 got convicted after Nixon for all their bullshit. Didn’t seem to be much of a hinderance to the party then. Maybe if some members of congress get charged and convicted/confess, but I doubt it. I think it’s going to have to be bigger and worse, enough to end the republican party before it has a major effect. I don’t think sanity is possible.

If there was one thing I thought I knew about my older brother, it was that he would never cheat on his wife.

And then he did. When their youngest child was less than a year old, no less. I suppose I should give him points for not starting the affair while she was pregnant.

Also, when a person starts acting uncharacteristically in one area, it’s very common for them to start acting differently in other areas of their life as well. It’s uncommon for people to be able to successfully compartmentalize their lives. A change in one area can lead to a change in other areas as a ripple effect.

They rolled out a mobile DNA lab to identify victims burned to bones and shards of bones.
