Today, pictures from valued commenter Mike in Oly.

My husband and I drove to the other side of the mountains to check out the fall color. We were not disappointed.

Tieton River, WA

Towering cliffs of lava and basalt from ancient volcanoes line the valley and provide a dramatic backdrop for the autumn foliage.

A colorful show everywhere one looks.

The warm sunny afternoon was perfect for a wander along the river and thru the woods.

The color was simply amazing.

This area is on the dry side of the Cascade Mountains and is mostly oak, pine and some fir, cottonwood and a few other assorted trees tossed in. Oaks dominate.

Thank you so much Mike in Oly, do send us more when you can.

Lovely! Fall colors make me happy. Here they were scattered and short because the weather turned freezing so fast.

Beautiful views of a part of the world I don’t get to visit much. Thanks for the brilliant foliage, the deep blue river, and the bright blue sky.

Well according to you know who, if you get out there and rake those leaves you can prevent forest fires. Hop to it.

    Beautiful!

    @satby:

Our fall was one day of dazzling color. Happily, the sky was that intense blue we get when the air clears out after a storm, so the colors were accentuated. Kodachrome and a film camera would have been killer that day.

Beautiful colors! The trees were still turning here when the unexpected blizzard last week knocked all the leaves — and some of the trees — down. Now they’re mostly bare and wintry, so it’s nice to have that blast of color.

We have completed our week in Manhattan, NYC, and I fly out to Charlotte NC at 3 something, on to CRW at 10 arriving at 11 something. Will get a cab to downtown office where friend – next door neighbor works second shift for a ride home.

Did amazing stuff every day, including a hilarious ride down Broadway right through Times Square after seeing Wicked at the Gershwin Theater… already excited, we boarded two rickshaws driven by two friends, a demented Persian and a Kazhaki equally crazed in a good way. Between the lights, the zigs and zags of the drivers, it was a truly bizzaire and fun end to a long day.

Will be several picture sets submitted eventually… street scenes, museum things, Empire State Building pix, etc. No shots of dinner from the frabjous meal that was out last urban adventure, alas. It was wonderful.

Wish me well flying on this nearly Thanksgiving day!

Glad you enjoyed them, folks. I had a lot of fun taking them. I highly recommend hiking this trail if you ever get to the area. Stunning scenery and geology all around, and lots of wildlife too. Watch out for rattlesnakes.
