Trump has given all the Worst People permission to air their murderous fantasies in public.
The US spends $618 million in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, and Mexico. We could double that and it'd still only be 11% of the cost of the wall. And we could deploy the money to find and prop up the next generation of Pinochet types.

Support strong leaders who will force through free market reforms and promote economic stability, even if with a heavy hand.

I'm hoping for some helicopters in this plan.

This idiot doesn’t seem to realize that the corruption of Central America is what the .01% wants for this country, and he is eagerly assisting them in achieving this goal.
sm*t cl*de
Erick of that ilk never saw a boot he didn’t want to lick.
IOW, stop the flow of people seeking asylum by installing dictators who will drive even more people out of their countries.

@sm*t cl*de: think he’s longing for the good old days of empire building where we’d use our money and might to basically enslave all those “problem countries”, you know the ones that have resources we want.
Ruckus
He’s got nothing above stupid.
Naw that’s not right. Stupid is above moron.
This is conservatism. Nothing more, nothing less.
At least there is no secret any longer. Nor any ability to hide what they really think and want. It’s not the outer fringe, this is all conservatives. The only change is they are all saying the quite parts out loud now.

Oh, he realizes it. He’s just dumb enough to think he’s going to be one of the guys who lands on top, and won’t understand his mistake until he’s standing at the door of the helicopter with no parachute.
Idiots like Erick are always expendable to a fascist regime.

SInce you brought up “Christ, what an asshole,” I feel compelled to mention Glenn Greenwald. Are we sure he’s not a Russian bot?
His tweet about Ukraine: “One can’t help notice that there is an enormous amount of sympathy and even affection among US media and DC think tank circles for a government that has clear, systemtic & deeply ominous ties to actual Nazi groups & neo-Nazi factions”
McFaul responded: “In our societies, the US, Ukraine, Russia, and many more countries tragically have Nazi sympathizers. But the Ukrainian government? Really? Any evidence to support that hypothesis? The Prime Minister is Jewish.”
Also, too, I appear to have been blocked by GG. Weird.

@Chetan Murthy:
A lot of conservatives used to not want to say the ugly parts out loud. But there really aren’t any non ugly parts, just ideas crouched in nice enough language so it didn’t sound as bad. But the ugly parts, which is all of them, are now said out loud. And proud. And everyone can see exactly how fucking bad and obnoxious conservatism is. And can see that a lot of people like what that is. Some, like eric, think none of this applies to them, just to the others, the non believers. Wouldn’t it be too bad if he found out the truth the hard way? If only he could without so many innocent people paying the price.

I thought everyone knew that Greenwald is a Russian stooge. He frequently repeats Russian propaganda points to launder them for the American “left.”

Honduras already has a strong leader who forced through free market reforms and promoted economic stability, even if with a heavy hand. So the economy is a dumpster fire and starving people keep fleeing Northwards.

The history of central america, thanks to the US corporate interests, is one where dictators that support amerikan so-called free enterprise, creates a system where the peasants are semi-slaves working for said amerikan corporations for pennies a day. Being amerikan run via corporate interests, any peasant that dares to voice concern is murdered by these “strong” man overlords. Ask Mitt Romney – he got his very start from money invested into his first company via a blood soaked central america crime family that help to serve one of those ‘strong men’.
On a lighter and good news note – the Insight Mars probe successfully deployed its solar panels and is charging its batteries. So, that mission is a success (for now.)

@Burnspbesq: Ha ha ha.
We’ve moved a lot T-shirts to/from several continents commercially. In spite or because of the multi-fiber agreement back then. And for several years after NAFTA too. And I’ll just say if the T-shirt’s Made in Honduras, it’s probably a pretty decent shirt. Esp if made of actual American cloth. Shirts used to have labels with all that info… or the shirts we bought to print on had those labels. Sometimes it would be El Salvador or Mexico. All the same fabric, same quality. Yes, when we were sending shirts to Canada, we had to specify. But they were all basically the same quality: Good. I can think of maybe 3 actual issues with seams not working we got shirts returned, among umpty thousands of shirts.
Oh yeah, there were srsly cheap Made in China shirts available, but they were utter crap, the fabric was horrible, never mind the stitching. As we backed what we sold, we didn’t buy crap to sell.
So back off the Made in Honduras thing, ok? What seems glaringly obvious isn’t always.

Brown people panic means that they just want those people whose countries we ravaged and pillaged to GO AWAY. How dare they come here looking for asylum from the governments we installed, and then later corrupted by our coke habits? Its as if the bad foreign policy of the sainted Reagan had consequences! Its also displays how much they think socialist (swedish style) and actual democracy isn’t for brown people, who in their freedom might vote for something other than to be exploited by American corporations. But if they come up here and become citizens, our lily white nation just might become even browner! Race panic is what is leading the “PInochet didn’t do anything wrong” types, They would rather murder millions than let a El Salvadoran or Honduran family be a neighbor and possibly marry their daughter or their son bring one of them home.
Sometimes I think the cheapest alternative might be just to buy those places. But no, that wouldn’t do-they might actually vote in our elections and insist on civil and human rights. And even letting these people in might be cheaper as well. Better than seeing U.S soldiers being dragged in the street or manpads (which they didn’t have in 1973) shoot down U.S helicopters.

Actually, the way I read Idiot Erickson’s screed was that he thinks we should install iron-fisted dictators in Central American countries to lock their people IN, not drive them out. Thus not only creating “free-market” utopias down there, but solving the refugee problem at the same time. Win-win!
Citizen_X
That pretty much is the history of Yanqui imperialism in Latin America. Erickson is promoting nothing new, and nothing disconnected from those countries’ present problems.

Almost none of the species left. I know there has to be a few stragglers here and there, who would like the world to go a bit slower and who actually believed that a lot of people can’t handle freedom, they are like toddlers left alone in a house with the gas, electricity still on and a desire to see what’s what and how much trouble they can get into. Of course the cure is worse than the problem.

When they finally get around to imprisoning those who’ve committed crimes against humanity, I dearly hope they round up those who cheer them on as well. Would be sweet to see Erick Erickson in prison.
And the fact that he considers himself some sort of Christian makes me lose my lunch. To paraphrase 1 John 4:20, “if someone says ‘I love God’ and seeks to have his brother pushed out of airborne helicopters, he is a liar.” (You’d think that would be pretty self-evident.)
JustRuss
I have to give him a little credit for pointing out that what we spend in foreign aid down south is a small fraction of what the wall would cost. Bumping that up would be much better for everyone than wasting money on a wall. That said, using that money to make things worse by propping up fascist dictators is not a great idea.
