Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

I was promised a recession.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Why did Dr. Oz lose? well, according to the exit polls, it’s because Fetterman won.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

You cannot shame the shameless.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Second rate reporter says what?

Let there be snark.

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

The revolution will be supervised.

This blog will pay for itself.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

So, this is a real tweet that the current President of the United States sent a little while ago about a person he hired to represent the United States of America abroad:

Mike Pompeo is doing a great job, I am very proud of him. His predecessor, Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed. He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough. He was lazy as hell. Now it is a whole new ballgame, great spirit at State!

As I’ve mentioned, I’m refraining from embedding the fool’s tweets to spare us all the sight of his hideous orange face, but here’s a link if you want to make sure it’s a 100% real tweet from the POTUS and not a spoof account run by an eight-year-old boy. Help us, Mueller-wan-kenobi; you’re our only hope!

Open thread.

He’s too stupid to understand that if what he says is true, it makes him look bad that he chose him to begin with, and said all kinds of flattering things about him for so long. And his voters are too stupid to work this out, either. Shit. He goes on about Rod Rosenstein being a traitor every other day. He can’t work that one out, either.

Mike Pompeo with his “oh, no the Saudis aren’t killing children in Yemen,” and decision to bring “swagger” to the highest diplomatic position in the whole country is a disaster waiting to happen. Tillerson wasn’t good, but it was out of the frying pan and into the fire with the change.

I have chosen one of the truly great business leaders of the world, Rex Tillerson, Chairman and CEO of ExxonMobil, to be Secretary of State.

“The thing I like best about Rex Tillerson is that he has vast experience at dealing successfully with all types of foreign governments,” Trump added, also on Twitter.

Probably coincidence that tweet came out right after news that Tillerson’s been rather freely chatting things up with Mueller. One of Tillerson’s tasks was to get big oil deals back on track with Russia, and something stopped that. Maybe Tillerson balked when he saw how unsound the methods had to be? Not worth the jail time?

Interesting video about rapidly deployable structures (for disaster relief, etc), and the use of origami — i.e., its rules of folding. (Which are now used as a part of a “universal design medium, the basis to create new drugs, structures from DNA, and to make myriad devices from pop-up machines to shape-shifting robots.”) Cool pictures.

“Taken together, advances in the use of origami and inflatable multi-material devices offer a new design paradigm for rapidly deployable structures. The critical next step is to bring these techniques up to the architectural scale.”

The video and quotes are from an architecture course in Deployable Surfaces taught by Chuck Hoberman. (Hoberman’s sphere, etc.)

He may even fancy he is an enlightened kind of guy and likes to think about what his precious giant corporation will be doing for money after the fossil fuel era ends. Maybe he thinks the disinformation campaigns about global warming were necessary evils needed to ease the way for the humongous richer than God giant corporation. Or maybe he is just a very competent greedhead who is mightily pissed that the Trumpsters screwed up getting the Russian oil deals going again, which was his idea of what Secty of State’s job should rightfully be. @Jerzy Russian:

No human could possibly be like this. I am there forced to conclude that hostile alien forces (either terrestrial or extraterrestrial) have put a robot of some kind the White House. At this point it is the only explanation that makes any sense.

The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense.

Dump has always been rich, and when the rich guy says something, everyone around him goes, “Yes indeed, sir.” So he’s had a lifetime of thinking that everything he says is right and that everyone who hears it automatically agrees with him. By now, reality has no way of impinging on his bottomless self-regard. He really believes that anyone he attacks will automatically lie down and play dead.
