Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

No one could have predicted…

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Books are my comfort food!

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Bark louder, little dog.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

This fight is for everything.

From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.

Submit Your Photos

Good Morning All,

On The Road and In Your Backyard is a weekday feature spotlighting reader submissions. From the exotic to the familiar, please share your part of the world, whether you’re traveling or just in your locality. Share some photos and a narrative, let us see through your pictures and words. We’re so lucky each and every day to see and appreciate the world around us!

Submissions from commenters are welcome at tools.balloon-juice.com

And, for those who use Healthcare.gov or your local state-based Exchange, please ensure that you’re covered for 2019. The Trump fuckheads reduced the sign-up period, so come the 15th, it’s all over, man!

Please, protect yourself and your family by signing up before the 15th. It won’t take much time, and the sooner it’s done, the better.

Ok – back on message – Have a wonderful day and weekend, and enjoy the little glimpse of heaven.

Today, pictures from valued commenter JoeyJoeJoe.

I went last week in Hawaii, visiting for the first time. My friend went with me, and has now been to every state.

What building is that the front of? I think I used to see it in the opening credits for the Jack Lord Hawaii Five-O.

I am wondering if those are balloons on the building’s front, or something else.

We lived in Hawaii when I was little. Moved back to the mainland for first grade and have not been back since.

    @Elizabelle:

I think they’re floats rather than balloons.

I have a pic my old man took of the USS Missouri but it’s from a different angle. Taken from about 2,000′ feet up, the deck is crowded with all kinds of military luminaries. You can’t really make him out but Douglas MacArthur is there and so is Mamoru Shigemitsu.

Thanks, I’m not sure how I made it up Koko Head. I’m not in bad shape, but I had to take a couple of rests on the way up. My legs were sore for the next two days after that.

Kualoa – love the bird head on the skyline. It’s a real-life Magritte (Domain of Arnheim)
