Today, pictures from valued commenter J R in WV.
Last month I met friends in NYC for a week of urban tourism, including nightclubs, theater, rickshaws in Times Square, museums, etc. There were great meals, music, the gamut of urban vacation.
These are a few of the pictures from that trip. There will be more than one set. Some of these pics (World Trade Center) were taken by Mike or Ruth (Tinsley Ellis). I’ll try to keep that straight, but they are all from the same vacation, a week between the election and Thanksgiving.

Highline Ballroom, Manhattan, NYC
Our first night out in the big city, I booked these tickets right after we did our plane tickets. We were an arm’s length from the stage in a slightly cheesy nightclub in the Meatpacking District right by the Highline overhead greenspace park.
Tinsley Ellis is an accomplished blues guitarist from Atlanta, GA. He really nailed it this night. Photo by Ruth on her Samsung phone. It was cold when we got out of this show!

Lower Manhattan, NYC
This is an original foundation of one of the twin towers of the World Trade Center which collapsed on 9/11. All these World Trade Center photos are by Mike.

The names of the known deceased are engraved around this fountain. Still sun shining on a beautiful fall day.

I gave Mike my Olympic TG5 to take down to the scene of the World Trade Center — this is the new tower replacing the twin towers destroyed on 9/11. Sure glitters in the sun!

Empire State Building
This was taken from the 12 floor window of our hotel, the first night in NYC.
Not the best photo ever, but still quite a thing to see from your hotel bedroom window.
Thank you so much J R in WV, do send us more when you can.

I miss NYC.

While there are lots of interesting new buildings in New York, there is something very special about the Empire Sate Building. Maybe it’s just my age that makes me think so.
A Ghost To Most
Thanks for the pictures. I was in NYC once, long ago. That was enough. Too many people.

@Betty:
If you look very closely, you can still see King Kong’s footprints going up the Empire State Building.

Last photo is iconic. Great trip, JR!

Thanks all, will be museums and fancy dinners, etc.
It was a great trip, Ruth’s first time in NYC, she drove us to see more, not waste a moment. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit wife in NYC when she was working for her union on contract negotiations several times. She always had a sub-sub-let apartment for the several months, no one knew how long it would take.
Back in the day I was able to wander Manhattan on foot or by subway, shop art galleries and antique shops, which are different in NYC, ancient artifacts, not Grandma’s chairs. So I was able to show my pals around a little bit.
