Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

We still have time to mess this up!

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

This really is a full service blog.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Bark louder, little dog.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

In my day, never was longer.

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

No one could have predicted…

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Pres. Trump never served in elected office until 2017. His interactions with Congress have so far included signing ceremonies, a gift of Starbursts, and leaders who remain wary of angering him or his core voters and therefore praise him, at least publicly.

Today, that changes.

— Robert Costa (@costareports) January 3, 2019

Me: New Congress should certainly investigate and run oversight, but should not preempt the Mueller case or SDNY investigation and must focus on highlighting a positive, bold, progressive vision for America.

Elsewhere, in a happier timeline:

To the women sworn in to Congress today, the most in our history: Congratulations. Knock it out of the park. pic.twitter.com/Kj7uyKFxEg

— Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) January 3, 2019

In her 2008 Primary concession speech, Hillary Clinton said that there was a success even in her losing:

It would now be unremarkable for a woman to seek the presidency, to win primaries, to be the nominee.

It would be unremarkable for women to seek even the highest office.

— The Hoarse Whisperer (@HoarseWisperer) January 4, 2019

In celebrating them, it’s worth remembering:

Remarkable successes are helped to become possible by the people who made it unremarkable to even try.

While it is a legacy some will deny, woven into the fabric of today’s many Firsts are threads first sewn by Hillary Clinton.

One of Nancy Pelosi’s granddaughter, I believe, keeps running up to her and dancing. When someone near her voted for her she hugged her.

I am very emotional right now.

WASHINGTON — (USA Today) Nancy Pelosi is the new Speaker of the House, but her granddaughter Bella stole the show Thursday on the House floor.

As her grandmother was sworn in again – the only woman to have ever served as House speaker – Bella couldn’t hold her excitement in, and Twitter loved it.

She was spotted pumping her fists and clapping as the votes poured in for the California Democrat.

When it was Pelosi’s turn to vote for herself, she took Bella’s hand and the 9-year-old shouted “PELOSI” and jumped up and down.

As Pelosi took her oath of office, she invited all children to gather around her – and Bella was front and center.

Documentary filmmaker and journalist Alexandra Pelosi says the Speaker of the House is a great negotiator and is predicting trouble for President Donald Trump when he meets with her. “She’ll cut your head off and you won’t even know you’re bleeding.”

I have to tell you I did not know Nancy Pelosi before I ran for office. And she generously came to my district and worked for me and tried to lift up the message that I had for voters.

She came multiple times. I had the chance to visit with her in other places. And I’m just one of the many people who were running for office that she helped out. She is a team builder. She is tireless. You’ll see her at meeting after meeting after meeting in her high heels. I don’t know how she does it. But she does it with a purpose and her purpose is good government and lifting people up and doing good things for other people.

    Your morning Blech:

The Trump administration has stopped cooperating with UN investigators over potential human rights violations occurring inside America, in a move that delivers a major blow to vulnerable US communities and sends a dangerous signal to authoritarian regimes around the world.

Quietly and unnoticed, the state department has ceased to respond to official complaints from UN special rapporteurs, the network of independent experts who act as global watchdogs on fundamental issues such as poverty, migration, freedom of expression and justice. There has been no response to any such formal query since 7 May 2018, with at least 13 requests going unanswered.

Nor has the Trump administration extended any invitation to a UN monitor to visit the US to investigate human rights inside the country since the start of Donald Trump’s term two years ago in January 2017. Two UN experts have made official fact-finding visits under his watch – the special rapporteurs on extreme poverty and privacy – but both were invited initially by Barack Obama, who hosted 16 such visits during his presidency.

The silent treatment being meted out to key players in the UN’s system for advancing human rights marks a stark break with US practice going back decades. Though some areas of American public life have consistently been ruled out of bounds to UN investigators – US prisons and the detention camp on Guantánamo Bay are deemed off-limits – Washington has in general welcomed monitors into the US as part of a wider commitment to upholding international norms.

There is simply a moral rot at the heart of the GOP.

    Backlash Blech:

An attempt to humiliate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as she was sworn in as the youngest ever US Congresswoman has backfired impressively, prompting a huge outpouring of support for her.

A 30-second video was posted by a Twitter user called AnonymousQ, showing Ocasio-Cortez dancing on the roof of a building while in college.

“Here is America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is,” read the post, with the user, who has since deleted their account, claiming it was a “high school video of ‘Sandy’ Ocasio-Cortez”.
    …………………..
But instead of humiliating Ocasio-Cortez, who was elected to represent New York’s 14th congressional district in November, the video has bolstered her popularity, with many people on social media praising her for being joyful and having fun.

Comedian Patton Oswalt joked: “She’ll never recover from the world seeing her … (watches video) … dancing adorably and having fun with her friends in high school?”
    ………………….
Imagine what a major ass-head one would have to be to think that video of @AOC dancing is anything but adorable and endearing and charming. -Zach Braff

@MagdaInBlack: I just don’t understand why some people cling so tightly to hate. I left one of the mocking comments on that tweet and the ratio was astounding, something like 3,000 to 132 at the time. Even the Russian bots couldn’t bring themselves to like it.

ETA: Hoarse is absolutely right that today wouldn’t have happened if Hillary had won. It took that enormous insult to rouse the rage that made so many people determined to avenge her or die trying.

What is a Hindu Vera? The book I see there is the Geeta, which is a part of the Mahabharata. There are 4 vedas and they are much older than the Geeta.

Geeta = comes from geet which means song in Sanskrit. It is a long poem about the advice Krishna gives Arjun at the beginning of the battle of Kurukshetra, where he faces his cousins, friends, relatives and teachers whom he reveres.

And Vedas predate the Geeta by hundreds of years. They are not the same thing.
