Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

The willow is too close to the house.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Let there be snark.

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

It’s not hopeless, and we’re not helpless.

The revolution will be supervised.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Ah, the different things are different argument.

Dead end MAGA boomers crying about Talyor Swift being a Dem is my kind of music. Turn it up.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Fight them, without becoming them!

The gop couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

It’s the first Friday of a new year, and we have otmar – hooray!

Enjoy the day. have a great weekend, and  enjoy the pictures!

Today, pictures from valued commenter otmar.

I’ve been negligent in posting updates from Europe. To atone, here are some christmassy (is that a word?) pictures from the last weeks.

A business trip brought me to Linz a few days later. This is an impression from the Landstraße with a view of the Ursulinen church.

Back in Vienna, we took the kids for a visit to the Christmas market in front of the Karlskirche.

There is a huge Christmas market at the cathedral. It it usually full of tourists and hard to pass through. So I just snapped this picture from the outside.

Salzburg

We had our company Christmas dinner in Salzburg this year (we’re split between Salzburg and Vienna), this is from my walk towards the venue.

The picture shows the Kajetanerkirche, it was built around 1690 and is currently part of a hospital (run by the order of the “Barmherzige Brüder”).

Thank you so much otmar, do send us more when you can.

Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

@otmar: It’s kind of fun to try to figure out which caption goes with which picture. Is that real snow under the trees for sale or fake? Love all the old buildings preserved. Here in California we haven’t been good at that, though the earthquakes don’t help.

The c@Mary G: the captions are over the correct pictures. The intended order is 4,3,2,1.

And the snow is for real.

Great pictures of lovely old buildings. I shopped at the Vienna Christmas market back in ’68 whilst thumbing my way from one town to another. These recovered dusty memories, thank you.
