Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

This blog will pay for itself.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

The lights are all blinking red.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Proof of Life: Cincinnati Meet-Up

From party-planner Ohio Mom:

Here we are at the Meet up. It’s me, Ohio Mom, standing, and Ohio Dad at the end of the table, caught with his fork in his mouth.

I’ll let everyone else identify themselves in the comments.

That’s Ohio Dad waving.

It’s hard to get a good photo of lots of people eating at a long table.

***********
I believe there’s going to be a (quite small & select) Denver meetup this evening, too.

Remember, you don’t need an out-of-town visitor for a meet-up… just somebody who’ll propose a date and place, and at least one other BJ jackal to show up.

The small Denver meetup tonight has increased by 33%! One more person (Scamp Dog) will be joining moi and PsiFighter37 at the Jagged Mountain Brewery at 7pm.

If you want to attend and tell us about it, email me: scott (at) dauphinehotel.com

I’ll be the one in the bright red, Washington Capitals 2018 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!! hoodie. Eat it Cole and any other Pens fans who happen to read this. :P

Meet-ups do sound like fun. I spend two weeks of every month in Houston helping with my son’s children. I hope at some point the Houston jackals will plan a meet-up while I am there. There must be at least a few who live there.

It was a lot of fun! Cincinnati has some great Juicers. Looking forward to the meet up with the Westside crew who were too cool for this group (Cincinnati humor).

Special thanks to Anne Laurie and Adam for their behind-the-scenes help pulling this together. And thanks to Steve for inspiring us to meet, and everyone who braved the cold and joined us.

I had a great time. It’s fun finding out how much you have in common with people you had only known by their aliases. It’s a good antidote to the news.

Now who is in charge of the next meet-up?

P.S. To CarolDuhart2, in case you are reading this: I wanted to arrange carpooling for you but I couldn’t find contact info for you. Next time, ask Adam or Anne Laurie to send me your email. We missed you, and the others who came to the meet up in Mason in I don’t remember — was that two years ago?

From a Washington Monthly article on today’s Brexit vote: Trump supposedly tweeted this, minutes after the vote.

“If a deal is impossible, and no one wants no deal, then who will finally have the courage to say what the only positive solution is?”

Two questions: 1) does anyone think Trump is able to think that clearly and then write that sentence and 2) do we think that tweet is really referencing the shutdown?

    WaterGirl

    January 15, 2019 at 6:18 pm

@Kathleen: Sounds like you might have gone if you had known about it!

Does anyone keep names and contact info for people who have been to meet ups so that if another meet up is being planned, everybody can be contacted? If not, they should.

I would, in fact, be willing to keep that database if people wanted to send me that info after a meet up.

@Kathleen: I couldn’t remember who organized the first meet up, now I know. I remember that afternoon fondly.

I will ask Anne Laurie to send you my email — then you can send me yours and I will make sure you hear about the next one. Which may be as early as the spring, if/when SiubanDuinne drives through.

@debbie: Nah. I kept Steve out of camera range, per his request.

One thing I appreciate about Steve is that I only had to know one name. With the rest of us, it’s like reading a Russian novel: everyone has at least two names. It’s a work out for your memory.

    @Ohio Mom:

Plus, it’s even harder to keep names straight when you have to overcome what you thought everyone looked like. When I managed a sales force, I spoke on the phone with the reps for at least six months before actually meeting face to face. None of them looked like what i thought they would.

@debbie: Yes, I’ve had the same experience. Except when I saw a photo of Majorx4, he looked exactly as I imagined. I don’t know what that means.

Do I remember you are in Columbus? When we have an afternoon meet up one day, you will come and I will be gobsmacked that you looked nothing like I think you do.
