Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

We still have time to mess this up!

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

You can’t love your country only when you win.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Seattle Meet-Up(s) — This Sunday *and* Saturday?

Per party-sparker Yutsano:

So I’ve been talking to a few of the Seattle peeps…and some can do Saturday and others can do Sunday..

So in grand Balloon Juice tradition, ¿Por que no los dos?

The Saturday plans are still fluid so those can be discussed. For Sunday, we’re meeting at Indo Cafe on Aurora just south of 145th at 6pm. Parking could be a bit tight but we could probably figure that out.

Come Saturday. Come Sunday. Come to both! I’ll be available for all the shenanigans!!!

Now to get some green balloons…

I’ll donate all my weekend portion of potential shenanigans to the common cause — if I send them now, they should make it over the Hood Canal Bridge in good time. Use them unwisely.

I might be there. Indo Cafe sounds great. I might be fixing dinner for my partner’s friends. But they haven’t called back so it’s probably an open evening.

Saturday evening is open for me. I’m in southeast Seattle so there or east Capitol Hill are easiest for me.

Oh, I wish I could make it; I’ve got to work both nights. Wish we could get more lead time so I could clear the schedule. Maybe next time :)

Maybe I’ll be able to join in! I come over to Seattle on the Bainbridge ferry regularly. I’ll watch here for planned locales. Closer to the waterfront is always my biased preference.

@Dan B: Right now we’re in the where and when for Saturday. Chandala Thai looks cute but I’m not sure they could handle a large group. They also close rather early so that’s another factor. But just my thought process there.

I can make Sunday! (and traffic through Seattle should be OK at that time).

We can only make Saturday after 5ish, but we’re completely open on Sunday. I think the Indo Cafe will be the one we go to.

@Yutsano: Chandala Thai has handled a group of 10 with 6 toddlers. They do chase people out at 8:30. Spice Room has handled 12 people (Got Green volunteers) and stays open later. Columbua City is a cute neighborhood.

Indo is a couple of blocks from me. I could lurk in person.

@Blehmann: Dammit! Thank you for reminding me! Lurkers are of course welcome.

In person lurking does sound fun. Just stand over somene’s shoulder, watching them eat….
