    It’s almost too bad that she hasn’t yet agreed on a rescheduled date for the SotU. Tuesday would be just about right; Trump gets to spend a weekend listening to the whole world laugh at how she beat him silly, then he has to get up and speak while she stands behind him holding a large hammer. With a week or two to convince himself that he really won, biggly, it wouldn’t have the same impact.

Sometimes it has been clear from the context that yes, indeed, he means the money not paid to furloughed or unpaid-working staff. He remains convinced, in the face of repeated explanation, that their back wages are now up for grabs — because welching on debts has always been his MO.

    The no-nonsense judge assigned Stone’s case has already demonstrated that she’s got little patience for defendants who misbehave. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson issued a gag order on Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and later revoked his bail and threw him in jail.

    …. That kind of self-restraint could present a challenge for Stone, who is accustomed to speaking his mind. Shortly after appearing in a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, court Friday, Stone addressed a crowd of reporters, fans and detractors, proclaiming the charges against him were politically motivated and declaring his innocence.     I’m beginning to think whatever is going on with McConnell will end up with him leaving the Senate before 2020. Just a hunch, but he definitely gives the impression of somebody being blackmailed into going against his own political instincts.

    And if there’s any dirt, Mueller already knows it.

    @Yarrow: Without McConnell this pile of bozos wouldn’t have got NEARLY as far as they did. Mitch is Putin’s best, best ally and his smarts and determination have taken this treason as far as it could possibly go. They couldn’t have dreamed it would go this well.

    Even so, he has limits. And he’s all in on his treason. No, he’s not enjoying this: there’s no exit strategy. It was fun while it was working.

    @West of the Cascades: I agree that cartoons don’t need to be accurate, but they do need to capture the essence of someone. This cartoon does not in any way capture the essence of Nancy Pelosi, except for the use of the color red.

    edit: just looked at your links. he is clearly very talented and typically does capture the essence of people. in that way, he did an amazing job on a lot of them. truly talented. but I came away feeling even more like he did a terrible job on pelosi in this one. when i look at that cartoon, it’s jarring. i may be wrong but it just seems lazy on his part.
