Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

So many bastards, so little time.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

In my day, never was longer.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Super Bowl Sunday Pre-Game Open Thread

I’m assuming someone will hop in later with a super bowl thread.  Until then, here’s a pre-game thread. I’m recording the kitten bowl because Scout is fascinated with the commercials. Meanwhile, cooking and cleaning is how my day is going. Just made a big batch of puppy training treats.

Sundays are generally politics free for me.

Did I tell you guys that Bixby locked himself and Scout in the bathroom on Friday and I had to take the doorknob off to get them out? Silly puppy.

Kitten Bowl is the best. I like it even more than the Puppy Bowl, and I love the Puppy Bowl.

I ran across a delightful CBS Sunday Morning interview with Linda Ronstadt, who has retired from performing due to her illness. Still a wonderful personality with a great perspective on her life and career.

It was very cool to learn that her former boyfriend Jerry Brown had visited with her over Thanksgiving.

Here she is singing with two friends on the David Letterman show.

The dog cookies look good – I may try those. Right now we are making treats for the pack by putting chunks of beef heart in the dehydrator.

@TaMara (HFG): The local CBS station preempted Sunday morning for super bowl coverage because why not. Thank you and Brach for mentioning what was on.
My friend’s dog locked herself in a bathroom for hours and panicked which meant sanding and refinishing a door. I’m glad your result wasn’t as bad.

We were going to bail on a party this year since we had quite a few no-shows last year and I spent a ton of dough on goodies. We mentioned it to a couple of friends and the said “oh, no, we love your party. We went ahead and I’m making my old standby jambalaya and now I’ve had 4 cancellations in the last hour! I do like the focus on Atlanta’s music and civil rights history on the CBS pre-game.

I bought a six foot cat tree from chewy.com, but after setting it up, I realized it was sized for kittens, not 2 18 lb-ers. So I rebuilt it with 3 cat sized platforms. It is now the favorite place in the house for them.

As for the football thing, while would completely disagree with the use of hilarious in the blurb, it’s harmless and contains some slight amusement value, even with the RT interviewer’s annoying habit of lapsing into a patronizing Yakov Smirnoff imitation.

Super Bowl: We asked Russians what they know – and the results were hilarious

    @Brachiator

Here’s my contribution to the Superbowl. I haven’t a clue. Never did.

But oh Holy Hell. England beat Ireland in the 6 nations rugby last night? WTF? Ireland had been the champs for years. And they were the favorite last night.

Perhaps I should go back and cheer them on. Except for the fecking fact that they’re OUT.

Gotta say I’m so glad I wasn’t in an Irish pub last night!!
