Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

“Squeaker” McCarthy

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

The words do not have to be perfect.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Posted this on Twitter earlier during my trip into town:

RV-driving Shitgibbon fan in front of me at a traffic light. The sticker paints Trump as a martyr for giving up a “great life” to be “slandered, mocked,” etc., “FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.” It’s a wonder someone that dumb can pull a wagon, let alone drive an big-ass RV. ? pic.twitter.com/BWPJIdltTy

— Betty Cracker (@bettycrackerfl) February 5, 2019

This RV driver did a fair job of projecting “gullible asshole” based solely on his vehicle’s rear window, though he loses a couple of points for a lack of pro-gun and anti-choice representation.

I remember being amazed to see a lady at a MAGA rally break down in tears when complaining about how the media treats the orange fart cloud during a TV interview. She and the RV driver seem to sincerely believe a selfish shithead who wouldn’t piss on their heads if their hair was on fire is sacrificing himself for them.

I’ve got plenty of MAGA chuds in my family tree, but they’re garden variety bigots who aren’t quite dumb enough to think Trump cares about them personally. I’m not sure which is worse.

I really do hate Trump voters worse than the man [sic] himself. Ultimately, you can’t blame a narcissistic pig for acting like a narcissistic pig. But it was so obvious what he was. And so many vile disgusting people voted for him anyway. They voted to burn down the country for no purpose except to “own the libtards.” I really don’t consider them to be functionally human, and I don’t mind telling them that to their slackjawed faces.

I don’t understand why Nancy Pelosi is allowing the moron to give the SOTU before the deadline for an agreement on the Govt shutdown. Now he’s got his speech what stops him from again shutting it down and demanding the wall money. I expect him to talk more crap about the wall. In this at least it seems like he got what he wanted (and he should never be allowed anything he wants). I hope pelosi has something up her sleeve if he acts up again (I’m hoping beating him on the head with her shoes). And I don’t believe he’s learned anything from his earlier defeat. He’s incapable of learning.

But it is noteworthy how this Trump worship, and assertions that he is God’s Own Chosen, is intensifying even as his rank cupidity and incompetence become more blatantly obvious to sane people.

It also continues to amaze me that the Establishment, historians, journalists, pundits, are still reluctant to publicly declare that Trump is clearly a lazy, stupid fraud.

Anyone mentioned that today is the tenth anniversary of John Cole’s classic “tire rims and anthrax” post?

I really don’t understand how bipartisanship is ever going to work when one of the parties is insane. Imagine trying to negotiate an agreement on dinner plans with your date, and you suggest Italian and she states her preference would be a meal of tire rims and anthrax. If you can figure out a way to split the difference there and find a meal you will both enjoy, you can probably figure out how bipartisanship is going to work the next few years.

It was true then, and Lord have mercy on us all, it’s WAY more true now than it was 10 years ago.

The thing is, they believed this long before Trump came around. This has been Republican voter doctrine since at least 1980. It was a big part of how Reagan united the evangelicals and the plutocrats. It was spelled out plainly in that interview with a sick woman who said she voted for Bevin because once medicaid was taken away and all the lazy moochers had to fend for themselves, she would get a great job and be able to buy her own insurance.

Because I’m starting to see the cracks in the level of support in some of the Trumpers my husband and I know, I’m really hoping that we’re finally starting to get down to the true level of support for Trump which I’m guessing is no where near his 37-40% job approval ratings in most polls. I’m thinking we’re gonna start seeing 30-35% ranges pretty soon, particularly because of people like we know who care about national security and are disgusted with “the wall” his anti-immigrant rhetoric (many are Hispanic first gen with parents who came illegally but eventually became citizens) and what they’ve done to kids and families at the border. And they’re also all sick of hearing about his “Goddamn Tweets”.

I really think the fanatical folks Betty saw are more like less than 20% of R’s right now. They’re the ones who live in such a bubble of RW news/radio etc. that all they get is how wonderful the guy is. They’re soft minded and incredibly limited in their ability to ever make use of any cognitive dissonance that might occur in their internal dialogues. The rest of his “supporters” are more transactional right now–anti big government, low tax, anti “socialism”, pro-gun, Republicans who never supported Democrats and never will but who are not seeing Trump as some kind of messiah or religious figure–he’s a means to an end for them. THEY are the ones who will support him until he crosses a line that matters to them–as long as he’s replaced by someone equally able to fulfill their means to an end.

Re. SOTU, there’s talk that Trump will promote an HIV campaign promoted by Robert Redfield, CDC director. It will “target communities with high rates of infection”.

Redfield seems okay but has evangelical Christianist ties. The plan calls for mandatory HIV testing for “those communities” and reporting to local health departments. Redfield kept HIV+ recruits out of the military and supported segregation and quarantines. He’s on the board of an evangelical group that promotes abstinence.

It seems to cut from the same cloth as John Birch Society messaging: Create fear and disgust of the radical and of “the disease they spread”. There’s also a hint of “a solution” that will finally stop this plague.

It’s also reminiscent of the “War on Drugs” targeting minorities and the sexually profligate.

I’m not sure about down there in Floriduh, Betty, but around these Yankee parts a Gadsden flag has generally come to be synonymous with gun humping idiot bullies. Which is unfortunate, of course, given that its origins have fuck all to do with the 2nd Amendment. Its general connotation in the North has unfortunately become either (i) I’m overcompensating for something and lurve me some guns, and/or (ii) this is the dog whistle replacement for the Confederate battle flag I wish I could fly but those PC libruls won’t let me.

And the hits keep coming. One of my son’s high school friends died. The teachers and counselors have been great but they can only do so much. His brothers have swooped in to help which makes me so grateful. Some of his friends have been at the house getting their dog fix in. For a high strung psycho pup she is amazingly comforting when needed.

And the drama with my friend’s family is just infuriating. The estrangement makes more sense the longer I interact with them. I haven’t seen the cat in two days – I hope she’s just hiding and hasn’t escaped.

On the good news front, my mom’s recovery from eye surgery has been so easy. Because of the Patriots parade today, the surgeon canceled her follow up appointment so we didn’t have to do the 8 hour round trip to Boston today. We sent him some photos and he gave the all clear.

Tonight we are watching stupid movies and I’m making red velvet Whoopi pies. There may be wine, too.

But he then allowed it to happen and then allowed it continue. I figure at least part of it was a tactical decision to see just how strong the House Democrats would hold (and was surprised at how firm Nancy was able to keep them) and also to teach Trump how stupid he is for going around saying how much he WANTS to shutdown the government over which he “presides”.

I was still clunky (still am, who am I kidding?) and I thought that I resembled, and sounded like, a rumbling AT-AT. McConnell has passed other budgets Trump didn’t like. Do you think McConnell and Ryan didn’t consult? Ryan blocked the budget from being voted on before the congress switch, and McConnell blocked it after. McConnell could have overridden Trump’s veto at any time, although evidence suggests strongly Trump would never have vetoed it in the first place. This was McConnell’s shutdown. The people who are really getting screwed are those who itemize with high state/local taxes, and those with lots of kids. They lose $4050 per head exemption for taxpayer, spouse and each of the dependents (children or otherwise.) The offset is supposed to be almost doubling the standard deduction (no use if you still itemize) and a doubling of the child tax credit (not available if the kid is over 17.)

I have been rereading last year’s conservative press about the tax changes and it was mostly egregiously inaccurate (deceitful?) A lot of these taxpayers have been completely blindsided. I have been warning people I know for a year to not count on last year’s refund.

Hand over your card and a hired lady shoves the clipboard for yer name address phone email in front of yer face as part of the transaction. Maybe the receipt to sign is set up with a donation line, promising free extras and discounts, and she smiles right at you. Every so often a bumper sticker in this month’s theme comes in the mail. With a signup sheet for neighbors who’re smart enough to see the direction we’re headed. Email us 20 contacts and get a commando leader cup sleeve. Now the outside of the envelopes say “Hey Duke, Freedom ain’t free. Pay up your dues you owe and win a trip to a Trump memorabilia display.” With some coupons and numbers to call. The next bumper sticker comes with some extras, give a couple away in the parking lot at work.

The experiment is imagining what his life post-presidency will be like, who will pay attention to him, who will be plastering “Bring Back Trump” bumper stickers on their coal-rolling pick-em-up trucks, who will look to him for salvation, who will shower him with money. Try it, it’s fun.
