Already had a Michelle Obama sighting and Lady Gaga won an award and promptly thanked God, so at this rate wingnuts or going to be ultra furious in the morning.
Got a solid little snowstorm going right now, and had grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner. I like Sundays.

I think vagina pants are a contender for making right wingers explode.
FlyingToaster
I lost shingles in the windstorm Friday night/Saturday morning, and am expecting the roofers to call bright an early tomorrow about tarping the roof, prior to the 6-8 inches of snow followed by half-an-inch of rain Tuesday pm to Wed am. If they don’t, the insurance will get someone to, though I’d rather have the company 5 blocks away do the work if possible.
It looks like on top of HerrDoktor’s Valentine’s Dental Surgery, we’ll be getting a new roof this spring. I hope the HVACs can survive one more year, because I don’t see replacing them in 2019. GRRRR.
I’m going to be so glad to get on that plane for sunny Flahridah next Saturday, even if it means spending significant time with my increasingly addled Mom. At least it’ll be out of the Frozen Nahth for a week.
Mnemosyne
Waiting for the (brother) in laws to show up so we can all go out to dinner. Tomorrow, Disneyland, where it will be chilly but not raining, at least.

Do podcasts win grammys?
I wonder if Schultz got some kind of warranty on the advice Schmidt gave him. “Money back guaranteed if I make you a national laughingstock!”

John, your drapery game is on point.

Anybody following the drama of 21 Savage?
Avalune
@sukabi: Yep those are they. I liked the performance. @WaterGirl: Hi there!
WaterGirl
I only have the 2 extra pups for another hour or so before my niece arrives to pick them up. I just fed everyone so they are all wound up. Thought the parents wouldn’t be picking them up for a couple of hours — I feel a bit like the fun aunt who gives the kids sugar right before she takes the kids back to the parents.
sukabi
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: pretty telling, isn’t it? Schmidt doesn’t actually want to field questions about Schultz, or his decision making on why Schultz…just wants to collect his $$$ and cause trouble…but mostly I’ll bet it’s about the money.
Baud
@WaterGirl:
Save that for the side eye pants.
sukabi
@WaterGirl: lol, vaginas on parade.
WaterGirl
@FlyingToaster: Just talked to my other niece last night, and she had to get a new car and a new TV, all this week, because everything crapped out. She has a vacation to New Orleans planned for the end of February, so I feel confident that she feels your pain. I feel bad for both of you, but at least she doesn’t have dental work coming up. So I think you guys “win”.

Pete Townshend has been vlogging his work on a new Who album on his YouTube channel. (Roger Daltrey is away at the moment, he reports, but will join the sessions later this week.) I think that for this one, they should finally use the title Who’s Left.
John Cole
@debit: That was ABC’s doing.
jackmac
Hey Cole, I see you have Star Trek Discovery on your screen. IMO, the second season has been great so far. Characters are getting fleshed out and I really like the crossover story line with the USS Enterprise and Capt. Pike (although Jason Issacs sure was one cool, bad ass captain in the opening season).
Yutsano

Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Amir Khalid: they should finally use the title Who’s Left.
I will sign this online petition
Daltrey was on Marc Maron’s podcast a couple of months ago, which was probably recorded a bit before that, and he said he hadn’t spoken to Townsend in months. That’s how they roll, apparently, Townsend told Daltrey, I need a year off, so Daltrey said, okay, we’ll talk in a year.

FelonyGovt
Are you feeling better, Mr. Cole?
??? Goku (aka Amerikan Baka) ??
So I found something really crazy a few days ago. People actually ship Cal and Rose from Titanic.
Which reminds me of something else. There was this huge debate on Tumblr about villains and how they can be “problematic”.
1. For example, if you support shipping a hero with a villain, then you potentially could be “supporting abuse”.
2. You shouldn’t like the Galactic Empire from Star Wars or the Imperium of Man from Warhammer 40k, because of their ideologies.
3. Additionally, if you portray a horrible villain sympathetically, you may sway the audience to support that villain’s ideas/ideology in real life.
I admit the first point could make sense, depending on that villain’s character and personality. The only way a hero/villain ship could work in my eyes is going through serious character development or starting from scratch and setting them in an AU, tweaking their characters.
The second point is… debatable. I’ve met actual fascists and white supremacists online who are drawn to these universes. They identify with these factions.
The third is..I’m not sure? I’m leaning towards no because I think anybody who might be swayed by a fictional portrayal would already be on that path anyway. I think no matter what the story has to make sure the villain is still wrong for what they’ve done, no matter how sympathetic they might be. The severity of their actions matter as well.
What do you all think?
Dorothy A. Winsor
@WaterGirl: Thank you for asking the question so I didn’t have to.
Amir Khalid
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Pete and Roger put out a Who album about 12 years ago, with drummer Zak (bin Ringo) Starkey and bassist Pino Palladino. Roger joked about using the title then; come to think of it, so did a lot of people.
WaterGirl
@Dorothy A. Winsor: I sure wasn’t gonna google that!
edit: I learned my lesson years ago when Omnes was talking about something, so I googled and got the “fuck me because I love Jesus” video.
Though I have to say that was definitely the best bad video I have ever seen, just like Airplane is the best bad movie.
Still, I mostly ask here before I google anything that sound remotely “interesting”.
Omnes Omnibus
@WaterGirl: Coward.
Baud
@WaterGirl:
I think I found the source of your problem.
Omnes Omnibus
@Baud: Weasel.
Suzanne
@WaterGirl: That’s “FUCK me IN THE ASS ’cause I love Jesus”. Geez.
;)
WaterGirl
@Baud: @Omnes Omnibus: Or perhaps the problem was that I was listening? :-)
The second-best part about the video is that I sent it to the only person I knew I could send it to who wouldn’t be offended. So I sent the link to my niece was was in some arena watching her girls at hockey practice and it started playing (no headphones) before she knew what it was. We got a good laugh out of that.
WaterGirl
@Suzanne: I didn’t leave that part out on purpose – in my haste as I typed the comment I must have accidentally left that out. Yeah, without the in the ass part, the whole thing fails. Thanks for the rescue.

FlyingToaster
@WaterGirl: My sympathies to your niece; at least we’re old and can afford to fix this shit (unless one of the HVAC units go, then we have to talk about delaying a couple of this summers’ anticipated purchases). The dental stuff was unexpected; the earliest opening they’ve got is Thursday early evening, so in he goes. He gets to deal with the insurance and the roofers while I’m gone, though I doubt there will be much “dealing” since it’s February near Boston.
WaterGirl
@Baud: Rut roh. If I were running for office, what I had written there could easily be taken out of context.
WaterGirl
@Baud: … you’d have a dime?
Dorothy A. Winsor
I laughed and Mr DAW wants to know what I’m laughing at. Thanks a bunch.

@Alternative Fax, a hip hop artist from Idaho: That is because you have a fine mind and exquisite taste.
dmsilev
@FlyingToaster:
I have my fingers crossed that I won’t have to deal with that particular problem. Repair guy is coming tomorrow to diagnose just why it is that the 24 V line from the unit is cutting out regularly (causing the thermostat to reboot constantly). Thermostat company says “probably the overheat safety is tripping”, which could be simply “clean the filters to improve the airflow” all the way up to “it’s dying, Jim”.
Dorothy A. Winsor
@Suzanne: Is that connected to the vagina pants?
@Baud: The poor man has no idea. He thinks I’m writing.

@Dorothy A. Winsor:
In …a sense, yes.
FlyingToaster
@dmsilev: Waiting for that diagnosis must be nerve wracking…
We’ve had both heat exchangers replaced over the years; I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them is faulty/cracking/failing. But it’s really expensive to do the replacement, so I’d really prefer to get the roof dealt with and wait a year or two on the HVACs.
Suzanne
@Dorothy A. Winsor: Well, in the sense that everything is in some fashion connected to the vagina pants…..
Dorothy A. Winsor

Rotating tag?
dmsilev
@FlyingToaster: It’s been annoying to put it mildly. The unit (a monolithic heat/cool/blower system) is I think about 15-20 years old, well predating my ownership of this place, so it’s hardly impossible that it’s coming up on EOL. Really hope that’s not the case though.
dmsilev
@Dorothy A. Winsor: Watched the video, did you?
Suzanne
Diana Ross looks like a giant red poof.

WaterGirl
@Suzanne: That’s the same one I was talking about, right?
Omnes Omnibus
@Dorothy A. Winsor: An update of The Ancient Mariner?

@WaterGirl: Yes. It actually has a name other than “Fuck me in the ass ’cause I love Jesus”: it’s called “The Loophole”.

I’m a 58 year old rock, jazz, country, alt-rock, puink rock, willie nelson, tom waits fan, so I know this is old man yelling at the wind, but damn, I see some of these grammys every year, and every year I think “What the hell happened to music?” I like Janelle Monae from a personality piece I saw her on once, but I found her and Cardi B’s songs and performances incredibly base. TV question.
Never watched any of the Inspector Morse series. Noticed that the prequel series, Endeavour is on Amazon Prime. Too chock full of ‘in’ stuff and homages to the original for one unversed in that universe and its characters to appreciate it on its own?
frosty
@Omnes Omnibus: Except for the year that Bonnie Raitt won.

My one and only comment on the subject:
As you’ve correctly noted, the obsessing over whether people are mad at you is usually far more annoying than whatever comment may/may not have annoyed people.
Plus, it’s 1) the internet, and 2) BJ. Not everyone’s gonna like you, and you’ll probably irritate someone somewhere at sometime.
I personally fucked spectacularly here after misinterpreting a comment one election night and pissed off a ton of people. Once it was pointed out that I’d misinterpreted things, I apologized, life went on.

@NotMax: I’m a fan of both Morse and Endeavor and I think you could very much appreciate it. Both shows are strong, stand alone productions, with high production values and excellent writing.
