Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

You cannot shame the shameless.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Is trump is trying to break black America over his knee? signs point to ‘yes’.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

“They all knew.”

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Second rate reporter says what?

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Have a wonderful day, and enjoy the pictures!

Today, pictures from valued commenter FerdfromtheNort.

So we lived in the Arctic. Sometimes we would go elsewhere just for a thaw. -60 gets so cold after a week of it.

Kauai, North Shore

Definitely NOT the Arctic

Kauai, South Shore

Just plain Purdy!

What more can I say. Sunsets, Beaches, No ice and snow

Long Island, Bahamas

Very non-Arctic colours
Sunset, water and rocks.
And Warm

Long Island, Bahamas

This was washed up on the beach, after storms. It is apparently illegal to take it (and very delicate), so I did a photo with some contrast.

Baden-Baden, Grermany

The Spa in Baden-Baden is really, really nice. Lovely walks in manicured parks. Totally NOT wild.

Thank you so much FerdfromtheNort, do send us more when you can.

Travel safely everybody, and do share some stories in the comments, even if you’re joining the conversation late. Many folks confide that they go back and read old threads, one reason these are available on the Quick Links menu.

The colors in the first picture are beautiful, and I love the contrast between the sea and the sky.

I’ve never been to the Bahamas, but I’ve been to both Kauai and Baden-Baden those location look very familiar. I think I have pics from those exact vantage points. Of course, with Kauai, there’s the blowhole.

Beautiful photos! Thanks for the sun and sea, and also Baden-Baden, which is so tidy it’s almost sad.

The only thing I hate about these pics is that I don’t have the money to visit these gorgeous locations and won’t for some time. If there was ever a time to win the lottery and just getaway to a dream destination its during the Trump/Pence era! *sigh*….

I could spam the site with the photos from these locations (plus Poland and Holland) but these are a very limited selection

We like the smaller places away from cities. Kauai was great because of the lack of big city life. We used a service called VRBO to get the places to stay (3 over two weeks) which was very nice. I cook and having kitchens was the right choice.

We went to a smaller , less populated island in the Bahamas. We had a family connection. Again in a home not resort. We have done resorts before (Cancun) and they can be fine. Homes are better for food and flexibility.

We really enjoyed the small town feeling away from the resorts in Bahamas. By going to an out of the way island we got beaches to ourselves even during high season.

Not to humbrag, but I happen to know the daughter of one of the Supreme Court Justices for The Bahamas. She’s a hoot but I haven’t talked to her in well over 20 years.I wonder if she’s on The Evil Book of Faces.

Also: I always love pics of my birth islands. If the US falls apart I often wonder how they would work as an independent country. RESTORE THE MONARCHY DAMMIT!!!

All lovely views, in their different ways. I like the cloud action in the second picture. Baden-Baden looks like my kind of spa.
