Who’s a good kitty?
WFLA News Channel 8 take it away!
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A screened-in patio in Florida became the setting for a nature documentary about a squirrel’s tale of survival.
A video, taken by Michelle Kloese at her home in Punta Gorda Sunday morning, shows a bobcat hunting a squirrel on top of her patio.
“Woke up to a bobcat chasing a squirrel on our lanai screen!” Kloese said in a caption for the video, which she shared on Facebook.
Kloese said she watched the squirrel leap off of the screen and onto the ground, then the bobcat followed it up a tree.
She told News Channel 8 the squirrel is still alive and was last seen crawling across her pool cage around 6 p.m. Sunday night.
There is currently no word on the moose that is regularly seen hanging out with the squirrel.
Better hunting next time!
I’m just amazed that the screens over the pool didn’t give way.

However, Boris and Natasha were later seen coaching the bobcat.
The Dangerman
Boris and Natasha probably busy with their man at Mar-a-Lardass.
ETA: So, only movie I saw that’s been nominated was “Free Solo”, which was a lot of fun for this Central Cal person.
ETA2: Meaning, Oscars may be really boring for me this year, unless DeNiro comes out to tell someone to Fuck Off.

@The Dangerman: Other side of the state.

@The Dangerman: Is that the documentary about how they got Han out of the carbonite?

Speaking of wildlife, I photographed this nesting Bald Eagle this morning.

Mom Cat update: We’ve been talking with Alley Cat Allies and we are going to move Mom Cat and Gray Mom with us. They’ll be living in a special-made cat enclosure for at least 4 weeks (they’ll have a window) and then we can let them have access to the outside via a cat door. thank you for all the offers to help. More details to come.
Adam L Silverman
@CliosFanBoy: Excellent.

Didn’t that involve dinner utensils (use the Forks, Luke).

I haven’t seen a single movie this year, so it’s episode 6 of the 1995 Pride and Prejudice for me.

I discovered a pint of Haagen-Daz Pistachio in the freezer and the squirrel escaped ☺️
It’s a good night ! Tho a wee bit gusty in Chicago.
*nice shot of the ear spots, near the end of that clip.

I had a ginger tabby tom that would do that. Always got a kick out of the squirrels’ reaction when, thinking they were safe up a tree, to look behind on the limb to see Agni in hot pursuit.
FelonyGovt
My husband and I may be the only people in Southern California who aren’t interested in watching the Oscars.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Dorothy A. Winsor:
Your assumption is correct from what the bird watch folk there said.
Probably a good guess.
@Lapassionara: One of the guys in the local photo group posted a pic with one eagle flying away from the next a few days ago. The group leader sent me a text this morning about going there to photograph, so I did. The only problem with the location is a branch that sticks up making the view hit and miss.
@zhena gogolia: I was surprised that there were any nests in the San Gabriels(I know there’s some on Catalina Island).
Thanks all, I’m going to try again in the next few days and hope to get some better pics.

I’d forgotten about the Oscars. Seems like kind of a debacle with the no host situation and then saying some awards would be during commercials and then going back on that. I haven’t seen any movies so it would be mostly people watching for me.
sgrAstar
That bobcat is a beautiful animal. It definitely had no problem with the “visual cliff” issue we learned about in developmental psych. :)

@?BillinGlendaleCA: Very cool photo.

@zhena gogolia: That’s what I’m watching as well.

Well shit, we burned through the last Russian Doll and Kominsky Method and would have done True Detective but our Amazon HBO didn’t have it yet! “Alone Again Or, still rocks.

Is that bobcat ear tagged, or do FL bobcats just have white spots on their ears?

And Free Solo with the upset (and the star of the film. Honnold, gets short changed, but that’s OK).
Fun film. I want to see “The Dawn Wall” now (also Yosemite).

Can’t care too much about the Oscars, because it has been a rough week. On Monday my second cousin was shot to death by her boyfriend in Boca Raton – a murder/suicide. On Tuesday night I found out one of my oldest friends from college, one of the warmest women I have ever known, who had been having a rough decade and was just getting back on her feet, had a severe thalamic hemorrhage and has been bedbound, dysphagia, aphasic, agraphic, and severely hemiparetic for two months – and the reason I had not heard was because her friends in Vermont shut her phone off, and I knew that she had had issues paying her bill before. She’s forty-four, a social worker and a massage therapist, and she walked half the Appalachian Trail in 2015. Like a thunderbolt she was struck down.
Really feeling mortal tonight.

Yay Black Panther for costume design! But, damn, if i thought I had any chance of walking up to accept an Oscar, I would NOT wear a dress with a train.

Spent part of the pre-Oscars ogling the CRAZY RICH ASIANS cast: Michelle Yeoh, Constance Wu, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan and Henry Golding. (I’m straight, but…damn, boy!)
Michelle, of course, is empress. Gemma (who is the gal pal you have a secret crush on but tolerates it because she trusts you not to be an ass) continued her style train of dresses with long trains AND POCKETS.

@FelonyGovt: Thanks, I got a couple of shot(some even in focus) of the eagle up and feeding the eaglets, but there’s a tree branch in all the shots. The quest continues. I’ll get the perfect shot, they apparently have been nesting there for a while.

Bohemian Fucking Rhapsody, FTW. All the big sound awards, as it should be. Most fun I’ve had watching a movie in twenty years, at least. And the sound and music the best I’ve ever experienced in a theater experience, hands down.

@NYCMT: I have no words; no are adequate. Holding you and your friend in the light, along with your extended family.
Ohio Mom
@NYCMT: Oh my, I am not sure there are words — those are two huge, unthinkably sad earthquakes. Maybe even harder because of the distances involved.
Is there anything you can do to support your cousin’s family or your hospitalized friend? I’m thinking that taking action might help you feel a little less “mortal.”
Wishing you strength and comfort…

J and B had the funeral today for L in Florida – I guess we’ll make a condolence call on L’s sisters next weekend. L’s kids are furious about the virality of this on social media. I hope the DV charity raised some money.
We’ll visit C. In Montpelier when we go up for a cousin’s birthday in Burlington in April. Her guardians have said she can’t benefit from any gifts, and that they will read cards and letters to her, but she has not shown much awareness or memory. She was a very good friend to me 25 years ago when my father also had a hemorrhagic stroke – a much less severe one – and the fact that I’m so far away, and so powerless to affect her. That’s depressing.

@Steve in the ATL: Gesundheit.

@Adam L Silverman: J, who was on that palm beach broadcast, is my dad’s cousin, and would come to visit Opa’s chicken farm from Washington Heights every summer.
