Comey’s supposed to be a smart man; why can’t he accept his good fortune that he’s not be pelted with rotten fruit by his abused fellow citizens and just go away already?

James Comey, a key Mueller witness, chooses to weigh in on how Mueller findings should be released and invokes his own FBI announcement on Clinton as a precedent for what to do.

A few points… https://t.co/E98mdrvxKc

— Ari Melber (@AriMelber) March 5, 2019

Comey lists 4 times when findings from a federal investigation *were* released for the public interest:

Ferguson

IRS Tea Party

Padilla detention

Clinton email

The first 3 were done *by the DOJ* under the rules;

Only his Clinton case was the FBI usurping against the rules.

— Ari Melber (@AriMelber) March 5, 2019

Those are the DOJ rules and findings. People are certainly free to debate them, but it doesn't square for a former FBI official to invoke "the rule of law" while dismissing the DOJ rules *and* a DOJ inquiry reinforcing them.

— Ari Melber (@AriMelber) March 5, 2019

And that raises the question, is the best thing for the Mueller probe having this key witness weigh in on the release of Mueller's findings — or is this more about trying to relitigate and defend an FBI Clinton announcement that's not even an issue right now?

— Ari Melber (@AriMelber) March 5, 2019

I want someone to ask @Comey why it was so important to inform the American people about those emails but not important to let us know that candidate Trump was already under investigation for seeking help from foreign powers.

    WASHINGTON (AP) —

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings says the White House is refusing to produce documents related to security clearances.

Cummings released a letter from White House Counsel Pat Cipollone in which he calls Cummings’ request “unprecedented and extraordinarily intrusive” and offers to provide a briefing and documents “describing the security clearance process.”

Cummings says that is not enough and that the White House posture defies “plain common sense.” He said he will consult with committee members about next steps.

The White House is refusing to hand the House Oversight Committee documents that the panel has requested in its probe into the administration’s security clearance process, including for President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The committee chairman, Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., blasted the White House on Tuesday for asserting that his panel has not properly justified its requests for documents in investigating the matter, setting up a possible subpoena battle.

“There is a key difference between a president who exercises his authority under the Constitution and a president who overrules career experts and his top advisers to benefit his family members and then conceals his actions from the American people,” Cummings said in a statement.

I was curious about the thing that Pepper’s tweet mentioned – why the investigation of Clinton was talked about when Donnie’s wasn’t.

Someone at the FBI or DOJ (IIRC) testified before Congress recently and answered that.

Clinton’s investigation was talked about because it was in the news from some congressional hearings. Donnie’s investigation wasn’t (or wasn’t in the same way). So, the FBI’s hands were forced.

True? Who knows. But if it were, it is another example of the Teabaggers doing what they want with Congress and thereby tilting the playing field in other ways.

It doesn’t explain Comey’s ill-handling of it though, of course. He deserved to lose his job over it (as Rosenstin’s letter well outlined).

    My $0.02, FWIW.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

    @germy:

White House is being polite. Surprised Sarah Sanders didn’t write a press release stating “The President can classify and declassify whatever the hell he wants, and he can give anyone a security clearance. There’s no reason to question what the President does, if it is within his powers to do so. Trying to question is just a Witch Hunt and looking for excuses for the Democrats horrible performance in 2016. And the fact you are covering this and not covering the rampant antisemitism in the Democrat party, as well as their legalizing doctors to murder newborn babies, just shows why you, in the media, are the Enemy of the People and Elijah Cummings is no better than cotton picking ninny”.

“The body of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was likely burned in a large oven at the Saudi consulate general’s residence in Istanbul, an Al Jazeera investigation revealed.

New details of the writer’s murder by a Saudi assassination team were reported in a documentary by Al Jazeera Arabic that aired on Sunday.

Turkish authorities monitored the burning of the outdoor furnace from outside the premises as bags believed to be containing Khashoggi’s body parts were transferred to the Saudi consul’s home after he was killed inside the consulate a few hundred metres away.

Al Jazeera interviewed a worker who constructed the furnace who stated it was built according to specifications from the Saudi consul. It had to be deep and withstand temperatures above 1,000 degrees Celsius – hot enough to melt metal.”

Saturday morning we went to a funeral of a beloved church member, one of those people who seems to be holding up every aspect of the church community. She developed cancer as a side effect of the immune system drugs she was taking to fight rejection of an organ transplant.

That afternoon my wife heard about the death of one of the most famous and respected of her professors, a man she greatly admired and loved. It seems like only a week ago we heard he’d just been diagnosed with a glioblastoma.

Comey wasn’t alone. During an interview with Ari Melber, McCabe said that “we” (Comey, McCabe, and who else?) decided to go forward with the faux news on a new avenue of investigation on Clinton emails (I say faux, because there were no new emails on Amedin’s laptops, only copies of previously reviewed emails, which they could have found out in ten minutes with any competent unix script writer). McCabe asserted the problem wasn’t that Comey released the news, but that he communicated poorly. They wanted to show that the F.B.I. was capable of running a fair investigation. To whom? To the republicans in congress who clearly intimidated them?
Comey and McCabe are a couple of cowardly republican bureaucrats with no imagination, and still cannot understand why anyone would think anything they did was wrong.

The New York FBI office was leaking like a sieve; those scum had it in for Clinton and were doing everything they could to cause problems for her. I’m not sure how that played into Comey’s decision to make an official release about the Weiner laptop thing but it would have gotten out anyway. I think everyone assumed Clinton would win; maybe Comey didn’t want to give Repubs in congress further excuse to grill him endlessly as part of the “presidential harassment” they had planned. Maybe he just didn’t want to look like he couldn’t discipline the New York office.

As NPR reported Tuesday, that is leading to a situation where elderly Americans are dying before learning about the extent of Trump’s relationship with Russia and obstruction of justice.

The family of Mitchell Tendler, a World World II veteran, explained his last coherent thought before dying in the ER.

“It just was quiet for a little while and then he just sits up in bed halfway and looks at me and he goes, ‘Sh*t, I’m not going to see the Mueller report, am I?’ And that was really the last coherent thing that he said,” explained his son, Walter Tendler.

My sister, who I wrote about the other day, she died from cancer as well. She’s had two rounds of pretty nasty drugs, they had to put in a central line to give her the drugs. And it came back – again. They opened her up to see what was what, took one look and closed her back up. Told her “It’s hospice for 7-10 days, all the morphine you need or another round of far worse drugs and that will give you 90-100 days. When she chose hospice some of her friends were saying she should be committed and given the drugs. Standing in the hallway of the hospital I had to school people on how fucking stupid that was and how fucking inappropriate it was to even think it, let alone suggest it out loud. That someone would suggest that she should suffer far worse than she already had so that they could have more time with her? Take away all her dignity? Treat her like a thing that you are going to try to refurbish?
    So yeah, Fuck Fucking Cancer.

Where does a name like Tlaib come from?

My wild ass guess is that it come from the same root word as “Talib”. Arabic is a consonantal(?) language. Very often, words are written with just the consonants, ie, “Tlb”, and the vowels vary depending on tense, genders, or whatever. Formally, like in the Koran, the vowels are shown (above the consonants, as I recall).

@Ruckus: That happened with my mom when she was home on hospice. She perked up and people were telling me (and worse, her) that maybe the doctor was wrong and we should get a second opinion. I cursed a few them out worse than I have ever before in my life. My mom paid for a guy to come and take a blood test and when the results came back she should not have still been alive. A couple of weeks later she passed.

Why the fuck can’t people mind their own business? This latest “killing babies after they’re born” kick the Republicans are on is just as infuriating. Nobody carries a baby for nine months and then decides she doesn’t want it. The baby can live in pain or be given love and palliative care. I know what I would have chosen.

I do. Omar gets death threats; Soros gets death threats, and I’m sure that most of them come from nativists who think of Trump as their hero. @Mary G:
It just seemed so fucking selfish. Like she wanted to die, rather than she made a difficult choice. She’d suffered a lot from the treatment, it hadn’t worked twice and the docs were honest with her that it wouldn’t work this time either, but only buy her a short length of time at a far worse cost than she’d already paid. She would have been bed ridden for almost the entire time as well. She was my sister, and basically my best friend and I didn’t want to see her die, but cancer is a real bitch, even when you beat it back. She couldn’t do that and I defended her and would anyone else who felt the need to make the same decision. It’s not anyone else’s life but the owner of the body it’s in. I’m in remission and have been told that I very likely have Parkinson’s because they’ve ruled out everything else. I have a few years yet but a not all that small % of PD suffers have dementia as well. I’m giving it hell and am going to continue to and hope for the best but it’s not unlikely I’ll end up in the same place as her without the ability to make that decision.
