Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Bark louder, little dog.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Republicans in disarray!

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The willow is too close to the house.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

The words do not have to be perfect.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

I was promised a recession.

@geg6: @SiubhanDuinne: He didn’t. He wasn’t given a state funeral on par with that of former presidents. The only thing that, I think, the President had to okay was use of military aircraft to transport McCain’s remains from Arizona to DC. And even that was most likely done with Mattis authorization, not the President’s. The President could have stopped it, just as he could have probably ordered the military – the Arizona National Guard and the Commanding General of the Military District of DC and through him the Army’s Old Guard and the Navy Choir and band and the all Services honor guard – not to provide honors befitting a veteran, but had he done either of those things, my guess is Mattis would’ve gone ballistic.

The vast majority of self-identified Republican voters approve of Trump and the total number of self-identified Republics has dropped to 26%. So he has a high approval of an ever-shrinking population.

    As the WaPo puts it:

“Eighty percent of Republicans” may sound good, but if the GOP is only 26 percent of the electorate, that gives Trump just under 21 percent of the entire pie. That’s awful, to put it mildly.

He’s convinced that McCain was in on the Clinton’s conspiracy with Mueller, the British, Comey, the DOJ, FBI, CIA, and the rest of the US Intel Community, and the Democrats conspiracy of creating the dossier to prevent him from becoming president. Which, given that the dossier didn’t get released until after the election, was barely teased by David Corn the week before and got completely overrun by Comey’s letter to Chaffetz, makes no sense whatsoever. But consider the source.

@rikyrah: Not as nefarious as it seems:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her chief of staff have been removed from the board of the Justice Democrats PAC, according to a report.

The Democrat from New York and Saikat Chakrabarti, who was her campaign chairman, were de-listed last Friday, the Daily Caller reported on Monday, citing documents from the Washington, DC, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

The action was taken because the two never told the Federal Election Commission that they controlled the PAC while it was simultaneously supporting her primary campaign, the report said.

The two joined the board in December 2017 and continued to hold “legal control over the entity” leading up to her June 2018 Democratic primary win over incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley, the report said.

Ocasio-Cortez was removed from the board the same month but was listed as an “entity governor” until March 14, the Daily Caller reported, citing corporate filings.

But Corbin Trent, the congresswoman’s spokesman, said she left the PAC as soon as she beat Crowley.

“She left the board, I think it was the day after the primary. They just filed the paperwork in D.C. (this month) So there was a change there,” he said.

He also said Ocasio-Cortez sent an email to the Justice Democrats’ lawyer announcing her resignation.

“We all resigned because we thought it was the right thing to do, not because it was the law,” Trent told The Post.

@WaterGirl: The surgeon who did the initial surgery honestly didn’t think I was going to live. After the first 24 hours he revised his assessment to yeah, he’ll make it to, 48 hours later, he’ll walk/run/cycle again. The reason they didn’t think I’d survive is that the type of injury I had (open book fracture of the pelvis with perenial shearing) has low survival odd (that was the most severe of the numerous injuries). To say that I was known to most of the entire hospital staff is an understatement. I’d meet people 2/3/5 weeks later who would greet me and say, “I know you don’t remember me, but I was in the ER/OR when they brought you in. I’m so happy you made it and are doing better!” I always thanked them profusely (I was basically doing that since the moment I “woke up”), so if they did call me “miracle boy” or something similar, it was due to them that they could ?❤️

@Leto: It was. The President has actually been making insulting comments about McCain going back to 1999. At least that’s the earliest recording of him doing so during an interview.

did not realize that Trump brought up McCain being captured in 1999 in an interview w Dan Rather https://t.co/myFqu69IC7

My in-home PT is pushing me to get to outpatient therapy (also on recommendation from my ortho doc), so she’s starting to challenge me (within safe limits) more. She’s awesome and knows how to push my buttons :) I’m probably going to find machines like that, as well as my bicycles, problematic from here on out but we’ll see.

@Leto: It is a very good question. I’m not sure we’ll ever get an actual answer. It is possible the President sought some sort of political favor for a donation and McCain, notoriously cranky at the best of times, told him to go fuck himself. It may be that Stone and Manafort who were connected to the President back then had a problem with McCain at the time and it bled over. It could’ve also been a grudge inherited from Roy Cohn who mentored the President, Stone, and Manafort.

I also have a theory, more like a wild assed it makes sense, but there’s no proof explanation, about Roy Cohn. I would not be surprised if we one day found out that from very early on – as in when he was working as McCarthy’s legal bully – that Cohn wasn’t actually a Soviet asset. Largely because they were blackmailing him over the fact that he was heavily closeted at the time. His post McCarthy/Red Scare work would have positioned him as a keen look out for possible other assets, willing or unwilling, witting or unwitting, to recruit. It would explain a lot. It is also completely based on nothing other than a hunch.

Besides, I think there are times a person does get to brag. If you’re in high school or college and you’re a good student and you brag about getting a A on something, you’re an asshole. But if you’re a C student and you busted your butt studying for the final or you worked your ass off on some paper, and you get an A, you damn well do get to brag about it — what you’re really doing is sharing your excitement.

Personally, I think you get to do any and all bragging you want to as you get back to being able to do more things. We share your excitement and want to hear about it.

The thing is, all the messages he wants to send about people who haven’t sucked up to him are of contempt when they’re not just plain, sheer hate. The idea of actually honoring someone else — anyone else — offends him because in his mind, no one but himself deserves honors and praise. That even goes for his lackeys and cohorts; haven’t you noticed how often his praise of one of them is barbed in some way? — full of barely concealed condescension at best, and even less well concealed hostility at worst.
