Here is a picture of yours truly this afternoon with Tammy’s dog Charlie hanging out while your fatness was busy stringing up hummingbird nests to put in the willow and apple tree:
I mean, LOOK AT THAT FACE:
Speaking of adorable faces, here is a close-up of a wary Lily who is wondering why I am jamming my phone in her face:
Can you believe her cancerversary was last month? At any rate, happy pet day!
That works. Thanks!
Just put this at the end of the respite thread, but it belongs here. I am always killing threads.

It’s National Pet Day?
Ahh, this hits the spot! :-)
Charlie is absolutely adorable, yes, but Lily is an ANGEL…she is the sweetest dog.
@Mary G: Hooray for Kai!
Such sweet babies!
Here’s hoping for adequate distance between the hummingbird feeder and the willow tree.
“stringing up hummingbird nests”
Huh? Why and how? I’ve never heard of such. Genuine spiderweb lined nests? Who made them and why think hummingbirds would use them? Are you having us on?
Adam L Silverman
@Mary G: Oy vey!
This place is going to the dogs.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Adam L Silverman
@mrmoshpotato: That’s just crazy talk!
After years of lurking and very occasional comments, I will just say that Lily is the total queen – she makes and breaks my heart – because she is so lovely, but is not immortal. You have worked so hard to keep her alive, with help from jackals. It is so lovely to see posts with her photos – thank you. And then back to the mayhem …

is it national overalls day, too?
@achracnno: it’s not actually a nest it’s a bunch of stuff for a hummingbird to use to make a nest.
Two budgies, one African gray and two doggies. Love them all. Pets help to regulate my blood pressure and keep me sane.
Happy Pet Day indeed.
Thanks for cute petpix and (in some far fetched metaphoric way that I am not clear about in my own mind yet) cute Colepic.
Good luck with getting cute birds to nest near the home this year. Don’t mess with the damn nest so much this time. Get a G-damned telephoto lens or something, or remote next cam, or whatever… (dang kids these days!)
FYI, the 13th is Thomas Jefferson’s 276th birthday anniversary. There will be a livestreamed ceremony at Monticello from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Eastern time (link to get to it here) including a keynote address given by oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle.
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Everyday is overalls day in West(by God) Virginia.
In fact, since this is supposed to be a full service blog, I demand a remote bird video cam so we (loyal commenters) can watch cute birdies moving around in real time. Then we don’t have to worry about Cole falling over and breaking his damned legs or squashing the nest when he tries get some damned pic, or some similar catastrophe.
I will chip in for BJ Blog remote video cam system, so Cole can post videos while sitting in his comfy easy chair. By pressing buttons and similar shit.

@NotMax: Will there be cake?

@NotMax: the last few times I’ve brought up Franklin with my peers, I’ve gotten the impression it wasn’t okay to like him.
@Adam L. Silverman
Dunno but will say that the prospect of Friday the 13th + 276 candles does not bode well.
Ignore that. Looked at the wrong calendar – Friday the 13th falls on a Saturday this month.
Thank you. These are the perfect images to end my day with.

Love those Casey Jones overalls
Adam L Silverman
@David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch: Not sure if this remake of Alien is really going to be scary. In the original the chest bursting scene wasn’t quite this cute.
@David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch:
Cole might be sending secret signals.
Casey Jones, Grateful Dead
@NotMax: I believe you were the one who recommended The Penguin Pool Murder? Watched it on YouTube today — thanks!

If Mr. Cole had been a child model.
Cole, you were great in Petticoat Junction.
Glad to hear you enjoyed it. It does show its age yet remains a romp. (Big time Edna May Oliver fan here.)
Read a blurb someplace that McConnell sent a bunch of GOPer Senators to WH to hector Trump into backing off Cain nomination. Looks like it worked. Which is good.
But Moore, who is just as bad or worse than Cain, nomination still going through? Anyone know?
Because Moore is a white male fraudster and incompetent, so that is OK?
Cain working on regional Fed bank board of directors not really a qualification for a national Fed policy position, since regional board of directors mainly give advice on local business conditions for regional Fed operations. But Moore has never had a job that required him to do anything but spout whatever BS his paymaster wants him to say. Cain is almost totally unqualified, but Moore has less than zero qualifications.
Herman Cain is expected to withdraw his name from consideration for the Fed, ABC News is reporting.

I am getting strange feelings. I want to bump noses with Charlie’s adorable face. I want to kiss Lily on top of her sweet little head.
@Amir Khalid: But no love for poor Cole? Cold… cold… that is cold…
Edit: not even a safe hug?
I don’t think Cole wants to hug a strange dude with a grey beard.
@Amir Khalid: It’s the thought that counts.
@Adam L Silverman: I meant nests but the point still stands.
Lovely doggies (especially Lily of course, who looks a mite scared in that one pic). If interested in bird cams and not wanting to make Mr Cole do yet more work for us, Here are live bird webcams from the Chesapeake Conservancy, in which you get peregrine falcons in B’more, for the brutalists; Tom and Audrey the osprey pair from Kent Island; and a Great Blue Heron rookery: https://chesapeakeconservancy.org/what-we-do/explore/wildlife-webcams/
That Face! Those Licorice Eyes! That Jellybean Nose! The Heart to Heart, needs no words comfy companionship.
Who could ask for anything more……
And then, Lily, alive and living her best life.
Lighting a candle in my heart for all the jackals pets here, those ailing, those passed, those adopted or spied in their midst-and their hoomins who have shared them on this blog.
What’s the over under on Cole having a nest in his beard before summer’s end?
They are so lovely???
I like that you like fresh flowers, Cole??
@NotMax: Oh great! Another old movie to watch. ?
Where’s the cat, Cole? The cat. We want to see the cat ?.
Some trolls on Twitter told iditarod musher, Blair Braverman, that she should “go back to her ugly dogs.” A Twitter group formed and #uglydogs raised almost $150k for schools along the route. Blair didn’t know until people started greeting her as she passed through the small towns.

You look like Junior Samples, if Junior Samples done wore spectacles.
Charlie looks just like my granddog Scruffy. And Miss Lily’s sweetness is other worldly. She is so precious.
@Mary G: This literally made my eyes leak and my heart sing all at once. Made my day happier already! Thanks!
It goes without saying that every day is Pet Day. And that Charlie and Lily are the poster children thereof.
As I live in the Museum of Cat Hair, I periodically put it outside loose by the bird-feeding stations so birds can use it for nests.
@Skepticat: LOLOLOLOL i once lived in that Museum! 17 cats, all foundlings, multiple colors of fur and hair, it was GLORIOUS! I used to tell people I swept and dusted up at least another cat every week in shedded fuzz!
I WAS THE CRAZY CAT LADY! Strangers just left the ynwsnted in my yard.
You have a kind face — I’m not at all surprised.
