Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

In my day, never was longer.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

Well, we are talking about the Federal Reserve, which means we’re talking about serious money and the management thereof. Republican senators have pretty much proved they don’t give a fiddler’s fuck about personal or official misbehavior as long as the person misbehaving furthers their policy goals. But putting an economic idiot like Moore within whistling distance of Fed policy-making? That could conceivably impact senatorial fortunes, political and otherwise, and they’re not putting up with that shit. If anyone knows upon which side his or her personal bread is buttered, it’s a U.S. senator.

Spot the rw spin from this limey ‘polling expert’.

    Professor Sir John Curtice

    Polling expert

It looks as though the key message from the voters to the Conservatives and Labour is “a plague on both of your houses”, as both of them find themselves losing both votes and seats on an extensive basis.

Even though the Labour Party is defending a relatively poor result in 2015, the party is not doing even as well as it did then.

So far the party has made a net loss of nearly 80 seats, while its vote is down on average by one point compared with 2015 in a collection of wards where the BBC has been collecting the detailed results, and by seven points as compared with last year’s local election results.

The party lost control of Bolsover, Wirral, and Hartlepool… with only the capture of Trafford in compensation.

Meanwhile, although the results for the Conservatives so far are perhaps not as bad as they might have feared, their vote is down on average by six points compared with 2015.

As a result, the party is now also suffering net loss of nearly 300 seats, though the party seems unlikely – on the figures so far – to suffer the very heavy losses that some anticipated.

The Conservatives are also down by six points on average as compared with last year’s local election results.

Labour’s loss of 75 seats is somehow bigger than the 5 times loss of 360 seats for the cons. What a gaslighting asshole.

When Drinan failed to adhere to strict Papal doctrine (in favor of violent right-wing authoritarians, such as Nixon’s Repubs), The Church decreed that members of the clergy could no longer run for or hold political office. That might’ve changed in the past 40 years… but given the Vatican’s record during that period, I doubt it!

    @Jay

As opposed to electologists, who specialize in voter removal.

The source I found said that there are currently 8 ordained Protestant ministers serving in the House. I couldn’t find a list of who they are.

@Major Major Major Major: a month ago called and wants its hot takes back. No way Sanders gets a plurality with another old white dude with high name recognition in the race.

@Jay, @Aleta: Thanks. It is what it is. Just glad that the end is (mostly) in sight.

@Jay, @Aleta: Thanks. It is what it is. Just glad that after three and half years that the end is (mostly) in sight.

@Sister Golden Bear: In the 70’s I had a number of friends who were, in reflection, probably trans. But they were either calling themselves transvestites or bull dykes. It’s amazing how the awareness has changed. I’ve had a half dozen friends and acquaintances for 20 years now. They seem very content (there’s a better word but it’s bedtime) and don’t have the edginess that the drag queens and dykes in the 70’s exhibited. Progress!
Now for some resistance to the new HHS rule to allow denial of care to LGBT and reproductive rights.
