If you are enraged about Ohio’s vile forced-pregnancy bill (H.B. 182), debbie has compiled a list of the sponsor and co-sponsors the members of the Insurance Committee who began hearings on the bill last week.. I’m going to put them below the fold. Keep in mind that the Insurance Committee is hearing the bill and is not responsible for it. The Sponsor and Co-Sponsors want the bill to become law. Write, call, demonstrate! Let these people know what you think!

Letters are best. Calls and faxes are good. E-mail is a last resort but is very easily ignored. Please don’t try to be worse than Georgia.

I’m not sure how it works in Ohio, but in New Mexico it’s useful to get a group together, schedule a time with the legislator, and visit. Have a spokesperson with prepared comments.
Ohio Mom
So few Democrats but that is because we are so gerrymandered.
Seriously, my former Democratic State Representative was planning to run for the Ohio Senate, and because she was popular and a force to be reckoned with, the Rethugs in Columbus redrew the Senate district borders to exclude her house.
She was added to a district she couldn’t win and that was the end of Ohio Family having a Democrat
represent us in the State Senate. She went on to head an organization for progressive women (the name of which escapes me). We still miss her.
On the brighter side, our current Representative is a Democrat and is on this list. We have a soft spot for her because she agreed to be interviewed by Ohio Son for a HS government class project.
Anyway, many thanks to Debbie for pulling this list together and Cheryl for posting it. I will be using it!
Ohio Mom
@Cheryl Rofer: Good idea! I will forward this to our local Democratic Club chair — she lives in my subdivison.

@Cheryl Rofer:
I’m not sure this would get very far with members of Ohio’s GOP. They’re an arrogant lot who only listen to their GOP constituents.

Kudos to all of you who are calling to ensure that this awful legislation isn’t passed. Hope you’re successful.

@debbie: Find out what the Ranking Member’s stand is, and visit her to say you support her. If she hasn’t made her stand public, ask her about it and tell her you will support her opposition to the bill.
Visiting Republican supporters will be more difficult, if you can manage that. The Chair of the Insurance Committee or Vice Chair should be open to visits.
For any visit, have a statement prepared and anticipate how a discussion might go, how you might say various things. It helps, too, if you can say you represent some number of people. Even “My friends are horrified….”
Litlebritdifrnt
In good news it would appear that Twitler has not been invited to address the British Parliament when he visits next month. He is going to be absolutely fizzing as Obama got to do it. I am hoping that he gets so pissed of he cancels the State visit out of pique.

You guys may want to point out that this bill, like all the others, is not regulating abortion at all. They are regulating pregnancy for everyone who can possibly become pregnant, ever. And not in a happy improving life for expectant mothers way, either.
It’s a despicable and un-American invasion of personal privacy, from a party that has claimed to be in favor of personal freedom for decades, but which has changed totally from freedom over the past couple of decades. It appears to violate the federal HIPPA law as well.
So glad I’m an old~!!~ Will die off before global climate change ends civilization, probably before Republicans end democracy as well…
Sab
@Cheryl Rofer: The ranking member appears to be Richard Brown of Canal Winchester, District 20. He’s only been on the Insurance Committee for a year.
Emerald
@Litlebritdifrnt: I have seen on Twitter that Londoners are planning to line the streets and turn their backs on him.
Hope so!
Sab
@Sab: I was wrong about Brown. Should have read your list more carefully.
Tried to edit but it didn’t take.

@Litlebritdifrnt: That would be delightful!
debbie
@Sab:
I believe it’s Kristin Boggs from Columbus. She’s good. I’ll send her a supportive message once I’m done with these stupid, angry GOPers.

Can you imagine him going off-script to rhapsodize about the size of his Inauguration crowd, only to face all the yelling and booing?

I am going to start a petition to ceos whose headquarters are in Georgia, Ohio etc that this gross negation of women’s rights is counter to the goals of corporate America etc. and that widespread boycotts and divestment will be headed their way unless they start relocating headquarters from this madness. it’s time to make the red states pay for their medieval malpractice.
Ruckus
@debbie:
When I lived in OH I was pretty sure that they didn’t even do that much listening. To me it was pretty obvious that they listened to who paid them the most and that was the extent of their listening.

@Qui-Gon Jinn:
Great news!

They are trying to make rape and incest legal. All women will be forced to give birth to their sister, brother, cousin, neffew, niece, or the chikd of some man who broke into her home and raped her.

For those who would like more information on state level strategy, Indivisible published a guide earlier: https://indivisible.org/resource/indivisible-states-introduction
Fewer resources are required to make an impact at the state level – many fewer calls or letters will end up making a difference. I’ve found that calling state legislators offices is an effective place to start and their office staff are sometimes surprised to be talking to anyone. Got my college-age daughter to call last year and she was shocked to be talking to someone who seemed to have even less polished than her on the phone. This year my group is meeting with state legislators’ staff about our priorities (and theirs) & it has been surprisingly easy and informational.
