Redirects Banished?

Folks,
This is a new post about the porn and other redirects happening on this site.

 

We think the problem is handled, but since it can’t be replicated on-demand, I’m asking for your help in testing this for a few minutes a few times today.  Most-to-all reports have been on iOS devices, mostly iPhones. Turn off the ad blocking as it is bad ads causing issues.

Then load the site and click on links – to posts, Twitter, comments, etc. Just go to the site and read and click and click some more.  It’s the clicking that gets redirected, and it happens to both internal and external links.

Should something happen, please let me know details here. Also, if you can, write down the domain or company so we can see if that info helps track things down.

 

After a bit of testing, please remember to re-enable your ad blocker and enjoy safe surfing.  In an hour or so, try again, and repeat as you can today. If you have issues, please post them here.

ETA:  Please use the Safari browser for testing. Chrome, etc. aren’t quite the same, it appears. And don’t forget to disable the ad blockers.

    Just clicked a bunch of comments links, youtube and twitter links with no issues. Iphone XS software 12.2 using Safari.

    Sadly, I have not had any incidents whereby I was shown pr0n rather than content here. iPhone 6S with latest iOS, google chrome.

    I’ve tested about 5 times, 1 minute or so each, and it all looks good to me. But this isn’t a universal problem, so that’s why asking for your help was necessary.

    Thanks for looking, and to try again as many times over the course of the afternoon and evening as you can. That way we can semi-conclusively say that the issue has been solved, or conclusively say it has not.

    Oh – I will ETA the post but I’m putting it here in comments too, it seems to affect Safari rather than Chrome. So if you can try testing in Safari, that would be great.

    I have tried for three days on my phone with no ad blocking or anything because I don’t even know how to do that and OF FUCKING COURSE it never does it for me.

    @John Cole: I wouldn’t be mad about that. I don’t need to see lots of pics of giant schlongs, but that could just be me.

    When I was testing on Saturday, I didn’t see any and was so elated – for a microsecond – when I finally did that I forgot I was in public and so XXX content in public view was sort of in bad form.

    And somebody please bug Cole to either update the Balloonjuice twitter feed or just merge it with his personal one because it hasn’t posted anything for a year.

    A) trying to read a blog on an iPhone SE/Safari is fucking torture.
    B) I can only see the main page, no sidebar stuff (Twitter, Blogroll, yadda yadda yadda). Ads everywhere, but normal (Non-Autoplay-Video) ads only.
    C) However, no pron. No oddball redirects.
    D) iPhone SE. I’m never doing this again. (reading a blog, that is. The phone is small enough for me to hold it.)

    So we’re sure that this is an iPhone/iOS issue? Over the last couple months I’ve had it happen a few times on my Android phones in Chrome, so I’m not sure about that. I actually haven’t seen it in a while, come to think of it. Still, I’ll be a heretic and run blocker free to see if I can’t replicate all the same. Fingers crossed.

    I was unable to comment from any platform, any carrier. No redirects, no errors. Page would reload to the top, not to where my comment would be in the comment order. Even my issues have to have issues! ?
