Dr John RIP, but what a way to go, New Orleans-style.
Now back to our regularly scheduled fund-raising, it’s still early, and I think it’s quite possible that Trump will get blown out, but if he doesn’t, I think the race comes down to Wisconsin and North Carolina. There’s a special election in NC-9 coming up and it looks to be close. This is the race that is being done a second time because of Republican voter fraud the first go-round. The Dems have a great candidate in Dan McCready. Let’s help him out.
ET
I am from NOLA and last week is was Leah Chase. This week Dr. John. New Orleans (temporarily) feels a little less New Orleans.
Amir Khalid
Shouldn’t that be “gilded
Amir Khalid
@Amir Khalid:
I meant to say, shouldn’t that be “gilded [as in gold-covered] splinters”?
Honus
@Amir Khalid: I was gonna say that but the errant pedantry thread was a couple threads below.
MomSense
Really sad about Dr. John. I saw him live about 8 years ago.
Omnes Omnibus
@Amir Khalid: @Honus: Sometimes people over-pedant.
Omnes Omnibus
@Omnes Omnibus: Song here.
John Revolta
@Amir Khalid: He was originally gonna go with “gilt”, but Dr. John was the Night Tripper, not the Gilt Tripper.
Honus
@Omnes Omnibus: as that may be, I still want to hear from Steve in ATL about Buena Vista Virginia.
Omnes Omnibus
@Honus: Buena Vista? Shiiiit, man. We got at least three of them in Wisconsin.
Baud
Only if the Democrats follow my political advice to the letter. Otherwise, we lose.
Honus
@Omnes Omnibus: how do you pronounce them? Because in the Sovereign Commonwealth it’s “bew-nah”
dnfree
Buena Vista? Heck, we’ve got one in northern Illinois, but it’s unincorporated (i.e. very rural).
Buena Vista is an unincorporated community located along Richland Creek in Stephenson County, Illinois at latitude 42.426 and longitude -89.678. The elevation is 797 feet. Buena Vista is in Orangeville Community School District. The Jane Addams bike trail passes through Buena Vista. Wikipedia
Elevation: 797′
Omnes Omnibus
@Honus: You guys are doing it right.
chris
@Baud: Might as well give up now, Ginni Thomas and James O’keefe have joined forces. You’re done.
(Yes, yes, the Intercept, I know.)
dnfree
I hope McCready can do it. There was an excellent article in the New Yorker some years ago by Jane Mayer about how Art Pope funded the gerrymandering of North Carolina.

rikyrah
Watching AM JOY. They were talking about Dolt45and his trip to Ireland. They rented limos for $1 million.
During 44’s Administration?
Same company.
Cost was $114,000
???
Where are all the muthaphuckas ? who screeched for 8 years about the costs of 44’s travels???
Litlebritdifrnt
@rikyrah: I read a story today that said the Trump brothers had stiffed the various Pubs they visited on their Pub crawl because “they don’t carry cash” what neither of them has credit cards?
raven
“If Dr. John described the second-line route, he might have said that it rambulated to Xplanade Avenue, ternt on North Robertson and circulated back. Or something like that.”
I just listened to the fresh air podcast where they played Mac’s music and interviews from 88. Dude was real.
AliceBlue
@dnfree: Georgia has a Buena Vista as well.
Raven
@AliceBlue: And a street just up the road from here in Normaltown. . . !
CatFacts
@Honus: Ah, yes, the local pronunciation of Buena Vista, Virginia! I used to live in that area–know it well. Definitely one to make pronunciation pedants crazy, along with Elizabethton, Tennessee.
john fremont
Colorado has a real nice Buena Vista
chris
@CatFacts: Elizabethton, Tennessee? I’m almost afraid to ask.
Guess I shouldn’t say much since I’m close to Port Jolly, Port Muhtoonn and Pateet Riveer. (Port Joli, Port Mouton, Petite Riviere.)
Doug R
Saw a guy held down at gunpoint in Buena Vista. I think it was a bounty hunter collecting. I called 911, I think it was the Orange County Sheriff’s office forwarded me to Buena Vista PD, who showed up in a few minutes. We stayed in Anaheim or Santa Fe Springs after that.
PS: Disney calls their home video Buena Vista distribution.
Honus
@CatFacts: should have lived there in the 90s when you had to order software on the the phone from California tech companies
Honus
@CatFacts: not to mention Loo-ray
Bjacques
I hope it wasn’t the Polynesian-style ribs…
Seriously, for his contributions to the faith, may he have a speedy and joyous journey to Guinée
karen marie
Doug, I hope that “voter fraud” is meant tongue in cheek, because it was election fraud, not voter fraud.
chris
Mike Luckovitch gets it.
Another Scott
@chris: Yup.
Thanks for the pointer.
Cheers,
Scott.
Redshift
@Doug R:
Lake Buena Vista, FL is where the headquarters for Disney World is (apparently the park is not technically in Lake Buena Vista, though, it’s adjacent to it.)
Redshift
@rikyrah:
All Republican outrage is fake.
Also, white presidents (except for low-class Democrats) should have a luxurious lifestyle befitting the leader of the free world. If it’s a black president, they don’t deserve it and they’re stealing from us.
CatFacts
For those who want to know what’s funny about the local pronunciation of Buena Vista, Virginia, “Buena” is pronounced to rhyme with “Beulah”. Elizabethton, Tennessee, is “uh-liz-uh-BETH-ton”, with the first “uh” barely there. Fun with place names!
Steve in the ATL
@Honus: and don’t forget bot-uh-tot county just south of us! (Boutetort)
@CatFacts: and don’t forget Maryville, TN! (“Mrrvll”)
Sab
@chris: You are either in Nova Scotia or Louisiana. “Evangeline” and all of that. I know you are in NS so I don’t worry about you with snakes and gators.
When I was a youngster in FL they imported rogue gators from LA to FL. Couldn’t kill them because they were endangered, but too many in Loiuisiana, so they dumped them in N Florida.
chris
@Sab: No gators but we do have snakes, harmless ones at that and they don’t bother me. Spiders on the other hand….
chris
@CatFacts: Haha! First one I ever heard and still a favorite, Belvoir, a castle in England. Pronounced…
Beaver, of course.
low-tech cyclist
@CatFacts: @Honus:
I lived and worked in Bristol VA/TN (“A Good Place To Live”) for 5 years before I escaped, so I not only know how Elizabethton is pronounced, I’ve even been there a few times. (I also had reason to be aware of the pronunciation of Buena Vista, VA, but the reason escapes me now. Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.)
Steeplejack
@Omnes Omnibus:
I had that album on LP. I am old. End of story.
cmorenc
@Litlebritdifrnt:
…and the pub didn’t make them wash dishes as an alternative to the pub keeper calling the constable on them?
different-church-lady
@John Revolta: Now CUT THAT OUT!
