Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

T R E 4 5 O N

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

I swear, each month of 2025 will have its own history degree.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

No one could have predicted…

With a few notable exceptions, it does seem that most of the Dem 2020 candidates genuinely like and respect each other and would cheerfully support whichever of them manages to win the nomination next year. I expect we’ll see a few punches thrown during the debates, but for the most part they all seem to have eyes on the prize. I like.

First time I’m hearing about this.

Wife and I just watched the CBS Evening News, and then the ABC Evening News. No mention of it. Both networks ran with a story about a “false report” of a man with a gun that caused a stampede of panicked celebrators. They arrested a man with a gun (he had a foreign-sounding name), and my wife and I wondered why both ABC and CBS called it “false report” (but there was no mention of the neonazis story)

If it’s the one they were pushing a few weeks ago, it’s a “pledge” not to attack other Democratic candidates. Right after Bernie made a big deal of signing it, he (officially) hired David Sirota, who had been & continues to attack every Dem candidate who gets any attention from the ‘lamestream media’, because all attention not paid to Dear Boss-Leader is stolen.

(Also, if Sanders’ passive-aggressive sniping about how all those other candidates are compromised, dishonest, johnny-come-lately unelectibles doesn’t qualify as “attacking”, he’s got a very generous definition of the term.)

TL; DR — the Young Turks, and their aging leadership, are Bernie’s brownshirts, and if they don’t end up getting someone killed, it’ll be because they’re not even good at the vandalism they so admire.

Trump promised to put ‘American truckers first.’ Drivers say he hasn’t delivered.”I’ve seen an $8,000 increase in my taxes this year.””Last year I owned 10 trucks, 10 trailers. This year I own one truck, one trailer because of all the taxation.

As always, these dopes blame Obama for stuff he had little to do with, and insist on looking at Trump as their supposed saviour, who was supposed to make everything right.

    From the NBC story.

Billy Bogar has been a long-haul trucker for nearly 20 years. He says that he’s a conservative who was glad when Trump won, but that he believes the president is listening to the wrong people.

“I’m a die-hard Republican. I always have been. I liked the approach that he had to Washington. I liked the approach of going and fire everybody and start over,” Bogar said.

Trump wanted to help big corporations and his own business interests. After that, he didn’t care. So the GOP wrote the tax bill to please their masters and Trump signed off on it. Hell, he would have signed a blank piece of paper if it had been put in front of him.

@plato: And then the guy says “but I’ll be damned if I vote for a Democrat”.

Edit: Should have scrolled down. I see by Brachiator’s comment #69 that he did, in effect, say exactly that.

    @Brachiator:

Ready to listen to what? Or to who? I don’t see that there is a single source of truth or revelation here.

An old online friend of mine recently pointed out that Left Twitterites have a pronounced tendency to describe anyone who says anything horrible as a “centrist”, and then use that connection to implicitly or explicitly bash liberals and the Democratic Party.

In the past week I’ve seen the “centrist” label applied to right-wingers who trollishly claim to be “independent”, and to Michael Tracey, in both cases because they whined about public intolerance of bigots on “free speech” grounds. These people are many things but centrists they are not.
