I’ve put together a list of the most endangered Dem House incumbents in 2020. One interesting thing is that when I started this list, I thought I’d see a lot of the people who won traditionally Republican suburban districts in TX and CA on the list, but Cook rates all of those as Lean Democratic, whereas the 17 most endangered House incumbents are all listed as Toss-Ups here. Apparently, the GOP suburban apocalypse is very real.

In the big picture, I don't think Rs and to an extent even Ds fully appreciate the existential threat suburban decline poses to the Republican Party. There are VERY few red states that can't flip because of it. 4/

Anyway, I ain’t askin’ for much, just a thousand each for the seventeen Democratic incumbents whose seats are listed as “toss-ups” here. This and the Senate list I’ve put together (of Republican targets) will be my main fundraising activity this year.

I’d like to mention one other fundraising thing, a sad thing. I always enjoyed the writing of Simon Malloy on Salon a great deal. I wondered where he had gone. It turns out he was battling colon cancer and he recently died, leaving behind a wife and two small children. There is a GoFundMe for his family here, and I just gave to it.

    Since this is an elections thread and since there was actually an election tonight in VA here is the tl;dr:

    Tonights results indicate a good possibility that D’s will win narrow majorities in both houses. The VA State House is currently 51R-49D, the projection is after November’s general election that will shift to 53D-47R. The VA State Senate is currently 21R-19D, the projection is after November that will shift to 23D-17R. Obviously there is a lot of hard work to do between now and then but signs are positive. If you live in VA get out there and knock some doors for your D candidates! Here’s a link to the twitter feed of a guy who does lots of election analysis in VA.. And here is a link to the Blue Virginia election liveblog.

    The other big great news out of VA is several candidates for DA who are opposed to mass incarceration, cash bail, and prosecuting low level marijuana offenses beat incumbents who were more conservative. If I am remembering right the big DA races that went to the more progressive challengers were in Arlington & Fairfax.

    Have a good night everyone!

    What is suburban decline? Seem to be more suburbs every year to me? What does it have to do with Republicans getting elected? I seem to have missed something.

    The Scott Perry situation is interesting (PA – 10). While he is straight Freedom Caucus in a traditional Republican District, the last election was very close. If he has he same opponent, he could be beaten. Definitely one to watch.

    @Gvg:

    That Republicans got killed in the suburbs in 2018. If that’s a trend, Republicans are goners.

    How long does it take for new donations to show up on the thermometer thingie? Every time I donate I refresh, hoping to see progress, but the numbers of donors and the amount stays the same.
    To help my need for visual gratification, when should I check back?

    Just had to comment re: Simon, as I’ve had the surreal experience for the first time of witnessing widespread public mourning for someone I actually knew.

    I was his RA in college, and it was so amazing over the last several years to see his wit and intelligence lead him to the success he worked so hard for and deserved. I loved seeing pics pop on Facebook over these last years with his lovely wife, his gorgeous sons – and then this. I can still see that goofy 18 year old rugby player in my mind, coming home late an night and flopping into the old broken arm chair in our common room with that little grin, trying to impress us with some fact or other. He was so damn smart and so passionate about learning and about politics even back then. Per usual – FUCK CANCER. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be.

    Please do consider chipping in if you can to the Go Fund Me which I think they’re trying to do some kind of education fund for the boys. And/or donate to searching for better treatment and cures at the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
