Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

People are weird.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

I was promised a recession.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Come on, man.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

‘Museums aren’t America’s attic for its racist shit.’

Trump makes a mockery of the legal system and cowardly judges just sit back and let him.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Another missed opportunity for Jamie Dimon to just shut the fuck up.

Glad to see john eastman going through some things.

The choice is between normal and crazy.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

Romney of the Uncanny Valley, peak functionality.

I'd even bet a former presidential candidate & current senator would be able to pull some strings and get through to the director of the FBI if needed

— H Incandenza (@BurkeThos) June 18, 2019

Gee, @mittromney, if only Mitch McConnell would let the Senate vote on exactly such a bill to protect American elections.

I just saw this and was like, wtf? A new acting SecDef is in the job. We’ve been without a SecDef for six months now, as we inch closer to war with Iran. And Trumpov is defending the White House vetting process, saying, “Acting gives you greater flexibility to hire.”

Last comment on this: concentration camp is an extremely charged term and I get why many people are, in good faith, uncomfortable with its application for Godwin’s Law purposes among others. So let’s just call them detention camps & and focus on what’s happening in them. Chris Hayes (@chrislhayes)

    @WhatsMyNym:

    Ain’t gonna happen.

Dilbit, which the pipeline will focus on, is 1/3 highly explosive proprietary solvents, 1/3 highly abrasive petcoke, and 1/3 heavy crude.

The West Coast Refineries that currently use the Trans Mountain Pipeline, arn’t set up to refine Dilbit, and as a result, some will close, and some will switch to Bakken Shale by pipeline, or Southern Alberta Heavy by railcar.

The only refineries in the World currently set up to handle Dilbit are on the Great Lakes and the Southern US Coasts.

While the Chinese would love tanker loads of refined product or even Heavy Crude, they have no interest in the solvents, ( toxic waste) or petcoke, and they certainly have no interest in paying for a supertanker only 1/3rd full of what they actually want.

Just like Site C, BC’s LNG, there isn’t going to be a market magically appearing for something nobody wants and there is a glut of.

When TransMountain II was being challenged in the Courts, he bought the leaking 54 year old pipeline for $4.5 billion from Kinder Morgan, ( an Enron offshoot), overpaying by $4.2 billion dollars, by some accounts.

It was a blatant political sop to Alberta and Saskatchewan, and a product of the Morons, Hedgefunds and Petroheads he’s surrounded himself with. Didn’t win him any love in Alberta or Saskatchewan, instead, sparked a QAnon like Yellow Vests Canada hate mob.

Pissed off BC to no end, now Washington State, Oregon and California are getting in on the act too.

He’s floated the idea of turning it over the the Indigenous Peoples, some think it could be a source of jobs and revinue for their Bands, most are veminently opposed. It depends on how linked the Band is to traditional culture, foods and language, and how much they rely on seasonal forestry for employment.

Dilbit doesn’t float. It sinks to the bottom, and has to be dredged up along with soil/rock to a depth of about 8 metres.

Trudeau promised BC a “Global Leading Oil Response” program for the West Coast, which when the Hecate Straight went down, turned out to be 24 days to respond with “containment”, the use of banned dispersal chemicals, and a clean up still not done, ( beaches only) 3 years later.
