Aim high. Fight, Fly, Win. Go Air Force:

Kim Olson, a veteran, is running against Texas Republican Rep. Kenny Marchant in 2020. Merchant won in 2018 by just 3 points, @playbookplus notes. Olson says she's running because "this president is attacking everything we've fought for over the years."https://t.co/KGQQ57w9JH pic.twitter.com/CVGX830Pdg

Any other outstanding candidates we should highlight?

    Watching Maddow. She is talking about Shanahan. The son beat the mother’s azz with a baseball bat. Left her in a pool of blood, and ripped out the phone chord, so nobody could call 9-1-1. ???

    Shanahan wrote a letter as to why the son shouldn’t face charges.??

    I live in Olson’s district (TX24), and had her at my house for a fundraiser months ago.

    She is the real deal.

    Cannot find Col. Olson’s web site for her run for TX 24th.
    Otherwise I’d donate now.

    Anyone got a link ?

    Why should the Secretary of Defense be blackmailable???

    Go, Ms. Olson! Marchant was my rep when I lived in Texas and I would relish his defeat.

    @rikyrah: Brock Turner Shanahan.
    I wonder if the Shanahans did a GoFundMe for the cost of his defense. Would not surprise me.

    One of my least favorite aspects of pregnancy is the conversations randos start with me when I dare to exist in public space. Yes, I’m hot. Yes, I look uncomfortable because my back hurts. No, I’m not going to have the baby right here. Good Lord.

    @Suzanne: It was 8 years ago, so likely not. What comes through is the level of anger in the household, especially Shanahan’s ex-wife.

    @rikyrah: I don’t understand how this didn’t come up already.

    Texas’ 24th District comprises the northern suburbs between Dallas and Fort Worth, with more of Tarrant County than Dallas and includes both Dallas-Fort Worth Airport and Alliance Airport. However, it’s just less than 50% Caucasian, with about 25% Hispanic and more Asians than blacks. If Olson runs a good campaign, and that launch ad makes me think that she will, she can beat Marchant.

    @Barbara: @rikyrah: Notice how many of the Trumpov flunkies are domestic abusers? It stops being an outlier at 1. A large portion of the men who have stepped down/removed from consideration are wife beaters.

    Watched the Rachael Maddow show, read about this Shanahan bastard’s events with his family, if he was in charge of Boeing, no wonder their magic new aircraft is a death trap.

    I fly from time to time, nothing like Steve in the Airport, but enough. Will not be booking flights on the Boeing Max Danger 737s.

    Will support Ms Olsen for congress!

    @Gin & Tonic: I did that with the last pregnancy—went to a wedding (and wore heels) four days before. Now I’m old and past the age in which the social circle involves lots of weddings. Thank God, because I don’t even want to wear pants or shoes, never mind formalwear.

    @Leto: There does seem to be a pattern.

    Maybe the vetting did discover the incident, but… They just don’t care.

    I think the obvious question for the press is: how many of the other “acting” appointee likewise have something seriously wrong in their back story. I’ll assume every single one of them does. Might be a good opening question when they are in front of Congress. A nice perjury trap.

    Leto

    June 18, 2019 at 10:49 pm

    @trollhattan: They’re also union busting by moving parts of production to South Carolina. South Carolina is actually gaining a number of high profile manufacturing plants, but they’re not going to pay as well if they were similarly located up north or back in Washington state (which I know is the point).

    @Wapiti:

    They just don’t care.

    No, they don’t. Even if it means that those officials are then open to blackmail/other negatively influencing events. They’ll try to force their kakistocracy candidates onto us, regardless of the consequences.

    @Leto: Yes, it has definitely been striking, although in this case it’s the son (especially) and the mother who engaged in violence.

    June 18, 2019 at 10:58 pm

    It’s a good video, thanks.

    But, the primary for that race isn’t until March 3, 2020. Is anyone else running? (I get nervous about jumping on flashy candidates (potentially) too early – remember IronStache?)

    Living in Virginia, my focus (such as it is) has been on the November 5, 2019 elections here. I don’t have any favorites to point to in those elections yet. My peeps are very good (Sen. Scott Surovell, Del. Paul Krizek) and were unopposed in the primary and they usually win easily. I’ll let you know if I see any other good ones. ;-)

    Can we have a thread on other states with important elections coming up soon? I know Doug! has been raising money for the September 10 Special election for NC 9th.

    Thanks for all you, and the other FPers, are doing.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

    @Another Scott:

    We have hosted fundraisers for last cycle’s candidate, Jan McDowell, for cognitive neuroscientist Dr John Biggan, and will host local school board member Candace Valenzuela in late July. I introduced SEVEN Democrats to a local Indivisible meeting early this year, but three have dropped.

    Any of them would be good candidates in a district that received Party support (McDowell ran on less than $100k in 2016), but Col Olson is the star here. She does not, however, live in the district, or didn’t when I introduced her to my friends and neighbors.
