Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans do not trust women.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Let there be snark.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

So many bastards, so little time.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Meanwhile, per Newsweek:

CNN political analyst and American Urban Radio Networks Washington, D.C., bureau chief April Ryan on Monday asserted that President Donald Trump’s administration is threatened by 2020 candidate Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Cali.) because she’s a “strong black woman” that claps back.

During a segment on CNN’s The Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer discussed the president’s son Donald Trump Jr.’s retweet of a post from conservative commentator Ali Alexander claiming that Harris is “not an American black. She is half Indian and half Jamaican.”…

“Eerily familiar, isn’t it?” Ryan said of the incident. “President Trump began his political career with birtherism, and that gave him basically the Oval Office. He began that way, and now his son is trying to throw this at another black person who is of mixed race, but who was born in this nation.”

“No one questions President Trump when he talks about his father was ‘born in Germany,’ or even Ted Cruz,” the political analyst noted.

Ryan went on to declare that “Kamala Harris is a threat to this White House because she is a black woman. This president has a problem with strong black women, or black women period. End of story.”

“And then watching her in those debates, Kamala Harris showed, as the young people say, the clap back,” she continued. “She had a clap back when she went after Joe Biden, and she definitely showed in this first round of debates that she could stand toe-to-toe with Donald Trump and give him what he gives her. So she is a threat to them in more ways than one.”…

And nobody knows better than April Ryan how much Lord Smallgloves hates self-confident black women!

I’ve never thought a sequin rainbow jacket was my style, but Kamala gives me strength.

Maybe brightly-coloured sparkles ARE my style! Maybe I should just embrace the fabulous and stop fighting the fantods.

I made the mistake of reading the twitter comments.

I was not aware that Kamala Harris was directly responsible for the homeless population in San Francisco or the “fact” that California is awful and no one wants to live here. Or that shes just like Hillary, hates gay people, and is apparently pandering in literally every sentence.

Sigh. There are times when you think “If I could just slap people through the Internet the world would be a better place”. And in some cases, shoot someone through the internet.

Also, because my last comment was kind of depressing… Kamala owns that jacket. Love it and her.

I may go get some Joyful Warrior stickers now.:)

    my god… my god

    Daniel Dale @ ddale8
Trump told Tucker Carlson that his instinct is to withdraw the US from Afghanistan, but it’s tough when a “great-looking, Central Casting” general comes to him and says, “Sir, I’d rather attack ‘em over there than attack ‘em in our land.”

In his second sir story of the interview, this one baseless, Trump told Carlson of Twitter: “A lot of people try and follow me. It’s very hard. I have so many people come up. They say, ‘Sir, it’s so hard. They make it hard to follow.’”

where are people who can’t figure out twitter just randomly walking up to the president of the United States and saying this? In his TeeVee room? on the golf course

So much sad news today. I wanted to toss out this little tidbit before it got too late.

I ran across this fun showbiz item from writer Marc Berman.

Today it is my honor, and my privilege, to wish Dame Olivia de Haviland a very Happy Birthday. She turns 103.

Movie fans, of course, will remember de Haviland as Melanie Hamilton Wilkes in 1939 classic Gone With the Wind, which netted the actress her first of five Academy Award nominations. But her initial movie role of prominence was in 1935 swashbuckling pirate film Captain Blood opposite Errol Flynn. Then of note, also pre-Gone With the Wind (and also opposite Errol Flynn), was The Adventures of Robin Hood in 1938.

    @Brachiator:
I loved her in Light in the Piazza opposite Rossano Brazzi.

I originally watched it, back in the early 1960s, to see Yvette Mimieux and George Hamilton, but I stayed for the de Havilland-Brazzi pairing.

Kamala Harris refused to enforce Prop 8, the awful ban on gay marriage that was ultimately invalidated by the state court. That was a principled and correct stand. Interesting how she’s being vilified after she performed well in the debate.

Only thing I remember from that movie was a scene in which it looked like nothing so much as nuns strenuously attempting to scrub frescoes off the walls.

Laughed out loud at it back then, still do when recalling it.

“You’ve got to be honest about what it means to lead a country. It means killing people. Not on the scale that North Koreans do, but a lot of countries commit atrocities, including a number that we’re closely allied with.”

“I think there’s probably a point at which the guy who wants to meet with Dennis Rodman and loves NBA basketball and loves western pop culture, probably doesn’t love being the guy that has to murder his people all day long. Probably wants some normalization And let’s give it to him if we can make the world safer.”
