Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

A fool as well as an oath-breaker.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

We’re watching the self-immolation of the leading world power on a level unprecedented in human history.

Catholic Day of Action

As Donald Trump and his administration trek further into the moral abyss, expect more demonstrations. Participate, even.

The media are ignoring demonstrations – there was some local coverage of last Friday’s Lights for Liberty, but I don’t recall seeing anything national.

On Tuesday afternoon, a thousand protesters, led by Never Again Action, a Jewish group, blocked the entrances to ICE headquarters for several hours. That got some national coverage.

Today, Catholic groups are protesting immigration policy at the Capitol. I’ve seen nothing about this so far from news organizations, so here’s a particularly good Twitter thread. Also, the hashtag #CatholicDayofAction.

This is sad. Maybe it would help if Democrats praise these protestors whenever they are interviewed, and point out how these are mainstream Americans doing what Americans do.

Sister Pat is a distant relative (cousin many times removed IIRC), and as a member of the Sisters of Mercy order has always served the poor mostly in Chicago. Not my church any longer, but when they quit focusing on zygotes the Catholic church can be a powerful voice for justice.

The division between the hate-mongering ultra-conservative American Catholic Church leadership and a large portion of its worshipers that are more moderate or even liberal, not to mention the fairly liberal nuns, should be interesting. This issue involves oppression of a mostly-Catholic minority. Will the American bishops love their in-group or their cruelty more?

Several said they hope it gives lawmakers courage to stand up for the protection of migrant families & change US policy.

Courage is not the issue. Elected officials mostly reflect their voters. The Republicans in congress think concentration camps are a good thing and only extreme cowardice of a major threat to their jobs would make them oppose white supremacy in sufficient numbers to change anything. The vast majority will dig in their heels and defend what they believe – that the browning of America is the greatest threat to the country.

is this the same media I keep being told will shine the light on all of Trump’s crimes with 24/7 coverage of impeachment hearings and turn the nation’s lonely eyes to Mitch McConnell? Presumably hearings consisting of empty witness chairs and lists of documents that haven’t been given to the Judiciary Committee because of the WH and DOJ stonewalling? The same media that instead of covering the fact that underage Katie Johnson was raped by Epstein and Trump according to court documents released last week, covered the Squad’s conveniently timed spat with Pelosi instead? That media? SMH. They’re USELESS. They’re worse than useless, they’re collaborating.

Trump’s incendiary rhetoric is much more shiny-object dramatic for the news media to cover than a bunch of protesters conducting a “passive resistance” sort of demonstration. It takes a massive turnout of the sort the Women’s march drew, complete with pink pussy hats to add to the drama, to get the media much interested.

AOC is getting coverage because she is extremely effective at dramatically presenting herself (and to a not inconsiderable extent, because she is a congressperson rather than just another citizen).

A friend who deals with the public in our little middle-class town all the time said one of her clients keeps talking about how great the stock market is doing. And that’s what happened to lefty protests. Why bother taking to the streets if nobody’s paying attention?

It’s going to be tricky, because immigrants from Latin America and the Pacific islands are the current backbone of the RCC in America. Some of the archbishops and cardinals who covered up for kiddie diddlers were also active in the sanctuary movement of the 1980s that sheltered refugees from places like El Salvador who were threatened by the death squads of a government the US supported.

I think this may be an area where the bishops will decide to make their country club converts uncomfortable and support refugees.

Turning our attention to less savory religious characters….

In today’s edition of “watching my rights being taken away in real-time,” the Christofascists are seeing Trump’s new “natural law” commission — created to re-evaluate the U.S.’s human rights policy — as “an extraordinary opening to push for clear and consistent recognition of the natural family” and “gives us a forum to challenge American foreign policy that has in the past advanced the extreme agenda of the left that has been cloaked in the language of so-called human rights.”

From Right Wing Watch via Joe.My.God:

Natural law theory has been used for a long time by Catholic Church leaders and theologians who reject LGBT people’s identities and their relationships. Natural law theory has various strains, but as applied to sexuality and gender, it essentially argues that people whose sexual expression or gender identity is not “natural,” or who have non-procreative sex, are defying the “natural law” of God.

All of the commission’s members are anti-LGBT activists. The commission, which was reportedly created without input from the State Department’s existing human rights infrastructure, is reportedly the brainchild of NOM founder Robert George, who, after the Supreme Court’s Obergefell ruling, called for “all federal and state officeholders in the United States” to defy the decision.

    joemygod.com/2019/07/brian-brown-new-natural-law-commission-provides-an-extraordinary-opening-to-cha…

In any case, my position is that we should be working toward impeachment, but that it should be done methodically and every I should be dotted and every T crossed. The senate will not convict so there is no reason to think that impeaching today is going to get Trump out of office before 2021. So I say build the case in such a way that it puts both Trump and the GOP on display for what they are in the lead up to the 2020 election.

It hasn’t come up here much — perhaps because the majority (though by no means all) of the commenters here are in the “privileged” category — but outside the walls of this particular echo chamber there has been discussion of the fact that the cheerleaders of the “go slow” approach to impeachment are generally the folks who can AFFORD to wait for when — if ever — this monster and his sub-monsters are removed from power….aka privileged people in general, and straight white men, in particular….though there are plenty of women in that category. (I personally don’t know any people of color who are.)

Since you are one whose very life is under direct attack every minute trump remains in power…..without any ATTEMPT even being made to remove him — your opinion of the chosen course of the Democratic “leadership” is inherently entitled to respect. So I would like to know what it is, if you wouldn’t mind sharing.

Hitler survived, as did everyone else who was shielded from the blast by the conference table leg. His trousers were singed and tattered (see photograph below) and he suffered from a perforated eardrum, as did most of the other 24 people in the room.

If it were primarily a symbolic act, it was a hell of a protest.

The plot was the culmination of efforts by several groups in the German resistance to overthrow the Nazi German government. The failure of the assassination attempt and the intended military coup d’état that was to follow led the Gestapo to arrest more than 7,000 people, of whom they executed 4,980.

Iran seized an UAE small tanker on Monday. At first they claimed it had broken down in Iranian waters. The UAE says it’s not theirs, and the Company it is registered to seems to be a front.

    cbc.ca/news/world/mideast-gulf-iran-tanker-1.5216139

Now Iran says it was smuggling refined fuel from Iran, illegally.

There’s a lot of bs., misdirection and misinformation on all sides, but:

The Panamanian-flagged tanker stopped transmitting its location early Sunday near Qeshm Island, according to data on the tracking site Maritime Traffic. However, it often did so over the past two years when nearing Iranian waters, other tracking data shows.

Where as on Monday, both the UAE and the US Navy had claimed that the ship had never turned off it’s Ship Tracking System in the past.

I see from that twitter thread that ICE is attempting to hold the children hostage in order to cause an undocumented parent to come for them, so they can arrest the parent. This is kidnapping, legally, and the Chicago child care authorities need to get an arrest warrant from a judge and arrest those who held those innocent (legally) children prisoners illegally.

I also think those concentration camps holding kids longer than 72 hours are nests of kidnapped children being abused, and state troopers with warrants need to take charge of those concentration camps, arrest the “agents” or private security guards, whatever they are holding children illegally, and free the children.

And I also mean those managing the programs feeding those privately operated “prisons”, the federal management employees, need to be arrested for child abuse and held for trial without bail.

Once some people are held without bail for child abuse, they will begin to have trouble recruiting sadists and pedophiles to run their concentration camps.
