It was dad’s birthday yesterday (#78), so I went and picked up Tammy and met my parents and my sister and her husband in Pittsburgh at a restaurant called Kaya. I gotta tell you, this is the best new (to me) restaurant I have been to in ages. Everything on it was in my favorite flavor profile, with peppers and lime and cilantro and goodness everywhere. We split a bunch of appetizers (my favorite was the shishitos), and for dinner I had the street corn and fish tacos. For dessert I brought with us a birthday cake called Death by Chocolate. We’re all still living, but if you gotta go, that is a good way.
Trump is awful.

If you ever get a chance to eat some Padron peppers, which are very similar to Shishitos, but BETTER!!
try them. My favorite pepper now, and I grow a ton of them.

Happy birthday dad! I saw my dad at a wedding last Saturday, but just got off the phone wishing him a happy 87th today. He was born/raised in Chicago Heights back in the day.

Happy birthday, Papa Cole!

Don’t huff wasp spray.
I blame the Sacklers.

Happy birthday dad. And I mean it!
Now go forth and have bunches more.

@Martin: Is there a constitutional mechanism that would allow the seizure of West Virginia’s electoral votes?

Happy Birthday to Mr. Cole! Glad he’s well enough to go out gallivanting with the fam.

Ahh, this blog. Lol.
Ohio Mom
@Martin: I hate the Sacklers too but sadly that subset of people who go around looking for things to sniff have been around long before the Sacklers started addicting people. Remember when it was liquid paper?
Martin
@dr. bloor: At the rate people are dying from opioid addition there, that may happen naturally.
Honest to god, I don’t know why we aren’t burning these CEOs alive.
Ohio Mom
Belated Birthday Greetings to Papa Cole. Wishing him a year of happiness and health.
Martin
@Ohio Mom: Yeah, but I believe addiction is deserving of treatment. I can’t imagine most of these people wouldn’t have preferred a big bag of cheap weed before they got addicted.

Happy Birthday Mr Cole. Right behind you at 81 in August. Just put the sailboat in the water for one last sail…
What is street corn?
Cheers

Happy Birthday to Daddy Cole! He takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’. An inspiration to us all!
No, I mean it. He has more energy than I do, and I’m 20+ years his junior.

Happy Birthday to Papa Cole?????????
Death by Chocolate is one of my favorites???

Thanks for tip on what looks like a promising and appealing Filipino fusion (right?) restaurant. I’ll remember it when I’m in Pittsburgh soon.
As for ‘tired and ate too much’, thanks to Cole for the update, but we all knew that already.

Organ music is good.

Happy birthday to Dad Cole! ?
I’m behind on the threads. Did we wish happy birthday to Amir Khalid and Goku on Wednesday? ??
And happy birthday to Seaboogie today (Friday)! ?

@smedley the uncertain:
Street corn!
SWMBO
@Steeplejack: Damn that looks good!

@SWMBO:
Cook’s Illustrated has a sort of salad version (esquites) that looks very good (and more convenient). Here’s the recipe. (Dunno if it will come through, because I have a subscription.) I would tweak it to go back to the crema and cotija cheese (rather than mayonnaise and sour cream), because I have those available in stores around here.

Kaya is a wonderful restaurant, we went there for lunch after adopting our youngest daughter. Even the kids loved it!

Happy birthday to one half of the responsible parties!
Sounds like he’s feeling good. Glad he’s recovering well.

Happy Birthday to the Blog grandfather!
Kaya is great, I’ve eaten there before. It’s a Caribbean/Pacific Island fusion place. Lots of fresh fruits, veg, spices, yum!
Amir Khalid
@Steeplejack:
I did get birthday wishes, thanks.

The greatest thing by far about Kaya (which has been around since I lived in Pittsburgh, but I’m happy to hear it’s still there and you’ve discovered it) is their black bean dip, which you can also make at home:

Yes, there’s a cup of mayonnaise in it.

@DHD:
That recipe looks good! Saved.
