Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let’s finish the job.

šŸŽ¶ Those boots were made for mockin’ šŸŽµ

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

T R E 4 5 O N

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

We are aware of all internet traditions.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

The revolution will be supervised.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

When it becomes clear that Trump pressed William Barr to investigate Biden, this testimony will be proof Barr lied to Congress in furtherance of a criminal conspiracy.

My preference for impeachment is a slow roast. Let the juices seep till early fall of next year. That way when the Republicans in the Senate refuse to vote to remove the President from office it will be used to bludgeon them at the polls in November. I mean if we removed Trump from office tomorrow we’d have President Pence and he’s a crazy Dominionist. Those people scare the shit out of me.

    @?BillinGlendaleCA: Pretty.

@kindness: I’d love to roast trumpov (and the GOP) for the next year too, but unfortunately I don’t think we have that luxury anymore. He is melting down on a daily/hourly basis and nuclear codes aside, our country – and the world – needs stable leadership from the US. It’s just the reality of the situation.

For Pence: he will be so hamstrung by the same inquiries that undid future Bedlam patient trumpov, I doubt he will be able to do much and certainly won’t rally the GOP in 2020. It’s not like he’ll turn us into Gilead overnight.

It’s funny: even my pro-trumpov RWNJ dad calls Pence ā€œMullah Penceā€. That’s not data, of course, but I don’t think he has the chops or organization or any of it to pull the GOP together in the wake of what’s about to happen to trumpov.

If Trump somehow got the idea that impeaching Barr would get him off the hook, he’d dump Barr in a minute. Now, how to get that idea into his head… It seems unlikely that I’ll be invited on Fox and Friends and allowed to “accidentally” blurt it out.

btw, an interesting sidebar question: who/what put it into trumpov’s head that all the answers to his problems involved squeezing Ukraine? ā€œIt was really them hacking in 2016…they might even have Hillary’s server…you should bring them to heel and demand they help you in exchange for a paltry amount of military aid…ā€

    Truly, I wonder.

@Baud: Ok, but…if trumpov resigns or is removed in the next few months, Pence takes the oath and is the prez. I don’t doubt there would be all kinds of GOP internal warfare going on, but seriously…who else would have any credibility to knock incumbent Pence out, satisfy the trumpov defenders and the GOP rump, and win the 2020 nomination? Haley? Picture those GOP primary ads on both their parts. =)

While ā€œtrumpublicans in disarray!ā€ Will unfortunately never be a thing, that’s what we would see. Mullah Pence is likely the default GOP nominee if and when trumpov goes down.

@Baud: trumpov and Stone and Giuliani gabbing and scheming on the basis of their own criminal impulses x the Fox Bubble of Information = acting on the opposite of actual ā€˜data’. We’ve seen this multiple times just in the past couple of days.

ā€œI’m going to release the ā€˜transcript’ and it will vindicate MEEE!ā€. Um, no

ā€œI’m going to hold up my cell phone on a national newscast and tell the world how I was acting as the de facto State Department, even though I’m just the president*s personal lawyer!ā€ Bad call.

ā€œWe’re going to rally the GOP and bring about a landslide victory even though this is essentially the real-time version of what the Dems said we did with Russia in 2016!ā€ Wait, what? And there are a gazillion receipts?

Actually, I have been surprised the world hasn’t had a big crisis blow up. Trump isn’t really a leader, and right now would be a bad time. I was afraid when he was elected, but not much has happened along the lines I feared. I have decided the world knows it’s not safe to upset things right now, and at least some of them are lying low.
If we have a world economic plunge or a Natural disaster Trump won’t know what to do and we will be in trouble. Thank goodness Bin Laden is dead.
I have not forgotten Puerto Rico. The day after inauguration we need to fix that mess. We owe our countrymen.
There are still reasons we should get rid of this idiot as soon as possible, even though we all want to take out as many of the other corrupt slime balls as possible.

In the case of succession by vacancy, the next in line becomes president immediately. The oath is a formality observed but the next in line is president the instant the office of president becomes vacant, oath or no.

If impeachment isn’t going to lead to Trump leaving office, I want the slow burn. If I thought we could get rid of him, I’d opt for quick action. But if I were playing the odds, I’d expect not to get a conviction or resignation, and so I’d go with the slow burn.

@NotMax: Um, just FTR, I wouldn’t be too quick to presume that Trump gone & Pence gone automatically means President Pelosi. I found this on Wiki:

There are concerns regarding the constitutionality of having members of Congress in the line of succession, however, as this clause specifies that only an “officer of the United States” may be designated as a presidential successor. Constitutional scholars from James Madison to the present day have argued that the term “officer” excludes members of Congress.

I think this is BS, we all think this is BS – but do any of us seriously think that the GOP would meekly assent to the Speaker becoming POTUS if they could possibly prevent it & keep the Executive power in their own corrupt hands? All they’d need is 5 members of SCOTUS to side with those “constitutional scholars” (whoever they are) & Mike Pompeo becomes President. Maketh me to fwo up…
