I’ll give him credit: one dummy saying another dummy gave him bad advice is not a bad gambit when all the facts…like literally ALL the facts…are against you.
And yet, as I posed to my RWNJ family members: “I thought it was ‘hearsay’…then it was a ‘perfect call’…then it was tireless dedication to uprooting ‘corruption’ (although strangely specific only to Ukraine and to the Bidens)…and now it is ‘Rick made me do it’ “?
They really do need to read that op-ed on accommodation. Could be an eye-opener to realize just why they keep doubling down on their support of an obviously corrupt leader.
Do the hard work, Republicans! Find someone less corrupt to represent your twin ideals of white supremacy and oligarchy! You can do this!

Like I said in an earlier thread, Rick Perry turned out to be perhaps the most conscientious and least objectionable of the Trump Cabinet. It figures that Trump would pick him as the scapegoat.

@Jeffro: We’ve seen Trump shifting his story before. The people I’d feel sorry for are the ones who’ve been out there defending Trump using story A, then Trump comes up with story B and invalidates their argument. That is, I’d feel sorry for them if I weren’t laughing so much. And if they were able to feel any sort of shame or embarrassment.
BTW who was the Trump spokesman a couple of years back who came right out and said “those facts are no longer operative”, or some phrase to that effect?
balconesfault
From Austin Texas, I am wondering how the Texas GOP is going to take the guy who was their golden boy for a long time suddenly being thrown under the bus.
Perry wasn’t viewed as Presidential material, but he was a reliable governor with deep roots with the big donors here. I can’t imagine this will go down well.

Amazing. It’s been obvious for decades that Trump will throw his subordinates under the bus whenever it’s to his advantage. Even just personal advantage. Now, it’s theoretically possible that some altruistic person might decide to work for Trump to rein in his worst impulses–but what am I saying? These are Republicans. They were in it for themselves. They deserve whatever they get, and they knew in advance the risk.

AFAIK there’s no definitive ruling on this. I’m sure Trump would be happy to argue whichever way is most beneficial to him, and it would be up to the Supreme Court to decide.
ETA: and as a practical matter, the 25th Amendment is unimportant. The same majority that could keep Trump out of power using the 25th Amendment could remove him from office permanently through impeachment. The only way it matters is if the 25th Amendment is somehow easier politically.

Don’t have time to do more than glance through the the thread., but can’t resist mentioning that besides all the other mountains of evidence Perry is not a mastermind of any kind, he thought the Dept of Energy was some kind of international marketing board. Kind of like the California Almond Growers Association of the US energy industry.
I have no clue what Perry’s stance on Trump’s electioneering crime spree was or is, but the idea he was a mastermind is doubtful, to understate it.
Another angle to this latest bit of toxic nonsense is that it shows Trump has about maxed out on the room for him to fail upward, even though ‘up’ at this point only means continued ability to destroy whatever he has control over and win a second term. Trump gets by with simple ABC marketing trials gimmicks. He just rolls out A, see if it flies, then B, see if it’s better or bombs, then if A isn’t flying high enough, roll out C for a spin.
That works when you are moving from one swindle to the next, you can bury the evidence in NDAs and court settlements. Don’t work so good when people are taking notes on what you said an hour ago, yesterday, last week, etc. Especially when the ABC turns into A, not A, A and not A, etc.
Hey, I thought it was a perfect call? Hey, I thought there wasn’t anything wrong with what you were doing because you put it all out in the open and shouted in from the WH lawn, and dragged half a dozen countries into your goofy insane conspiracy theories? They got nuthin.
Call your congressional reps (202-224-3122) and if they are R’s ask them if they support Whistleblowers; ask them if they support fair elections w/out outside foreign gov’t involvement; ask them if they support the democracy protesters in Hong Kong unlike the Prez. Put them on the hot seat like the woman in IA when she questioned Ernst in a town hall.

@Marcopolo: Maybe they will be busy trying to talk their staffers from running to Congress to keep themselves out of jail first thing Monday morning.
I don’t know if this hilarious and disgusting display is a new thing under the sun or not. I don’t remember seeing a heist flick where, in the middle of the caper, the boss proves himself so stupid and incompetent, and is so loathed by everyone, that the real drama is which of the flunkies runs to the cops and gets the best deal to stay out of jail. Is there a movie or a a play or novel like that? Or historical precedent?
I was worried about the WH stonewall policy working. But if all the flunkies are going to run to the fuzz to stay out of jail and keep their fines to a minimum, then the WH stonewall is disintegrating right before our eyes.

@jl: But the thing is, as a sociopathic narcissist, Trump is not capable of understanding that. The threat is not real to him, only ego threats (like ‘is Ross really loyal to me and will do what I want?) are real to him. It’s all emotional so to him the threat of Wilbur Ross is exactly the same as the threat of Ben Carson: he’s not capable of realistic threat assessment.
This could get interesting.

@trnc:
Stop saying 4chan grade crap. It has long annoyed me that the alt-right are normalizing language that makes women out to be, not people, but herd animals to be possessed, and shames the shit out of males who won’t play along. I don’t like that language or what it stands for, and it comes off really weird here at Balloon Juice, which is mostly not full of alt-righters.
If you don’t get that, consider this: it’s a tell, about where you usually get your information.

@Chris Johnson:
Interesting. I’ve never been to 4chan, yet you apparently know that’s where it originates. I picked it up from either here or TPM, and I don’t think the people who have said it are misogynists. I thought it meant a guy who knows his wife or girlfriend is cheating on him but is in no position, for various reasons, to do anything about it. I never considered it to be an implication that his wife or girlfriend is property. Unfaithful, yes, but not property.
I think anyone familiar with my posts here or on TPM would know I’m not a misogynist. Maybe in the future, if you see someone using a word you don’t like but aren’t otherwise familiar with that person’s beliefs, a gentle correction would be more appropriate than the kind of accusation you made.
Anyway, if it is indeed considered by most to be a misogynistic term, I’m happy to stop using it.
