His facial expressions alone in Jackie Brown should have won him an Oscar. Dead at 78 of brain cancer.

He was great in everything, but I’ll actually remember him most from “Twin Peaks: The Return”. He was a pretty core cast member of that series, with the actor playing Harry S Truman opting not to, uh, return.

Sad news. We’re losing a lot of great actors this year. Sigh.

Biden turns 77 next month. And has had two brain aneurysms. Just sayin’.

He could say so much just with his eyes. He will be missed.

I’m glad you mentioned his passing. Saw that this morning. Max Cherry in Jackie Brown. Banacek (I liked that show!). RIP Robert Forster.
Terrific actor. FWIW, I think Samuel L. Jackson has said that Jackie Brown had his favorite role. The terrifying, but also very human, Ordell Robbie.

Such a handsome and decent man.

Just watched him in the new Breaking Bad movie. The movie is fantastic.
But really Jackie Brown is one of the best movies ever.

Loved every damn thing he ever appeared in. Fabulous actor.

Oh good, these reboot/revisit type projects make me nervous, I don’t want to be disappointed

@NotMax:
While I agree he is too old MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) or CTA (computed tomography angiography) could easily identify any vascular abnormalities of concern.

Robert Forster first caught my attention in a 1968 western called The Stalking Moon, in which he plays the sidekick to Gregory Peck’s retiring Indian scout and pretty much steals the movie. He was also the star of Haskell Wexler’s Medium Cool, a movie shot during the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago that was rated X, mostly because it was so sympathetic to the country’s hard left that it scared the MPAA. Wexler and the major cast members — Forster, Verna Bloom, Peter Bonerz, and Marianna Hill — were probably risking their Hollywood careers by being associated with the project, and because of that, I always had a great deal of respect for Forster, both as an actor and as a person.

A consummate character actor. So subtle, sure, and at ease and like Mary G said, he spoke volumes with his eyes.
Jackie Brown has got to be one of the most satisfying movies – my kind of adult entertainment, and to see the interplay of his character with Pam Grier’s – pleasure and perfection.
I hope he had a happy and fulfilled life.

@laura: I would take issue with Forster being a character actor…. as far as actors are concerned, I use this as a handy reference as to who is whom….

@Elizabelle
Methinks you mean Banyon. Banacek was George Peppard.

Forster has a small but meaty role in The Descendants as the George Clooney character’s father in law. He is, of course, terrific in the part.

I had a long, long love affair with Robert Forster after I had seen him in a TV series, Banyan. After that, I would read every movie magazine, paper, etc., to see if he was playing elsewhere. I am so sad with this news. It’s really been a lousy year. Forster had a small role in a movie with Harrison Ford called, “Firewall”. And, he was great.
