New Scorpio moon Sunday, Selket protect us. Pluto and Mars will be in opposition, which means all the nastiest skeletons are due to fall out of closets, but since it’s a new moon it will take up to six months to resolve the ensuing crises. Then Mercury goes retrograde between Halloween and November 20th, which portends mechanical failures, missed opportunities, and gremlin activity on all fronts…

Per the Washington Post:
President Trump said Thursday that he plans to attend Game 5 of the World Series at Nationals Park on Sunday if the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros are still playing, though he will not throw the ceremonial first pitch.
“They’ve got to dress me up in a lot of heavy armor — I’ll look too heavy,” he responded when a reporter asked him about whether he would take the mound. Trump appeared to be making a reference to a bulletproof vest that presidents sometimes are required to wear by Secret Service when they are amid large crowds. A team official confirmed later that he will not take part in that on-field tradition.
Trump’s attendance at the 41,000-seat stadium in Southeast would mark a rare time he has ventured into the District’s entertainment and nightlife scene, other than his occasional visits to the Trump hotel a few blocks from the White House. It could also mean increased security restrictions at the ballpark for what is expected to be a capacity crowd.
The Nationals lead the Astros 2-0 in the best-of-seven series, with Game 3 scheduled for Friday night and Game 4 on Saturday, both in Washington. The Nationals would have to lose at least one of those games for there to be a Game 5 on Sunday…

Good news for Kai Kahele, at least: Gabbard just announced that she’s dropping her Senate House reelection campaign. So, once her new third-party grift fails to install her in the Oval Office, she and Nikki Haley will be able to devote all their attention to competing for gigs on the Wingnut Welfare circuit.

Comparing Tulsi Gabbard and Nikki Hayley is weird. They have nothing in common politically. I despise Tulsi but just lumping together two brown women is at best, lazy and reductive, at worst…. Let’s do better. Also one is Samoan-American, the other is Indian-American. Stuff like this bugs me to no end.

Why do people hate vegans?
Ummmm, maybe it has something to do with the annoying air of superiority that so many of them flaunt and the endless proselytizing they engage in? I mean really, you felt the need to write a reeeeaaallly long article to state that? Or maybe what you wrote was actually a really long whine about how unfair it is that you, a truly nice person who is vegan for all the right reasons is lumped in with all your asshole brethren? My money says this is one more tiresome attempt at proselytizing with a truly annoying air of superiority

If Gabbard has to be a boil on the body politic, Governor of Hawaii would limit the amount of damage she could do. The state already has universal health coverage and there’s zero appetite among the public to change that. It was a latecomer to gay marriage but Gabbard’s boxed in by her statements of having changed her mind about the eeeeeevul homasekshuls.
And if the confrontation on Mauna Kea is still going on two and half years from now – which is not unlikely – it will be funny to watch all her native cred AND her businesslike-businessperson-whose-business-is-taking-care-of-business cred evaporate in about twenty minutes after she wades into it.

Barr’s actions are beyond outrageous — they’re embarrassing. He’s essentially doing the same thing Giuliani has been doing for months: chasing threads of fever swamp conspiracy theories as if they are remotely worthy of serious attention rather than a product of the demented president’s brain worms.
But the spectacle Barr is causing is worse than Giuliani’s off-the-books kookery. Barr is a high profile US official who has real power. He’s spending millions of taxpayer dollars and dragging right-wing clowns like Seb Gorka around to represent this country.
Like Maddow said in a tweet yesterday, it’s one thing for US officials to walk around in a stupor and without pants at home, but it’s a national humiliation when they take their show on the road. If we manage to beat back the authoritarian goons, we really should have a national truth and reconciliation program. These morons and kooks have to be rooted out.

I was a frosh/soph in high school during Watergate, and while I remember it, recollections are vague. Did the situation seem as dire as it does now? The Barr development adds another level of scary. I watched Rachel last night, and commenters seemed to be falling back on Durham’s reputation for soundness, and the thought occurred that of course Barr would front the investigation with someone like that. It adds a sheen of legitimacy.

More like if this person is willing to undertake work on behalf of the Trump administration it’s more than likely they are complicit or acting in bad faith.
TomatoQueen
@Kristine: I was a high school senior when Watergate broke, and a college freshman when it was all over but the gloating. Dire and dull by turns, depending on who was testifying–and how well the press was doing in explaining and connecting all the dots. But there was a point in the summer–tapes ruling time–when suddenly it felt like ‘we got this’, not in a celebratory way so much as a feeling of faith in the process, in the Constitution, was justified. And then Ford pardoned Nixon and it was back to the fight.
Also too about Durham–see my post last night about him–I knew him slightly when I worked for the federal courts in New Haven in the late 90s, enough to think of him as the straightest-arrow, bluest of blue suits, and highly respected in the legal community both in Connecticut and the federal bar generally. His involvement in this travesty in any way makes no sense to me, unless like many others he thinks he can charge in there, fool everyone into thinking he buys into Barr’s fantasy world, and suddenly pull a magic trick, perhaps based on his long experience in prosecuting organized crime. And I don’t buy that scenario for a minute, cos he didn’t fall off the turnip truck yesterday, and neither did I. So it is a huge disappointment.

The World Military Games is a multi-sport competition among teams drawn from the armed forces of 140 nations. This year’s competition was in Wuhan, China. The Chinese orienteering team withdrew from competition after they were found to have cheated in the Middle distance event. In orienteering, the competitors are not supposed to know the course in advance, or use any assistance other than a compass and the map they were issued, but the Chinese team were using markings and small paths that only their team knew about, plus had help from spectators.
