The House is taking a procedural vote ahead of the impeachment inquiry rules resolution.
The floor was about half full even before they called the vote, which never happens. The gallery is packed. The pre-writes are filed. Somewhere on the Capitol grounds, a squirrel prances by.

I thought this Kellyanne Conway clip saying Democrats "don't have the votes" for the impeachment inquiry must have been from a few weeks ago. But, nope, it was just this morning! https://t.co/ISVNz1bybc https://t.co/pZjShJuXDN

It passed 232-196.

BREAKING: House has passed impeachment resolution, setting stage for televised hearings and ultimate impeachment vote. A big day and a big development. https://t.co/S8W2sDI9gj

Hey, @GOPLeader!
The impeachment inquiries against Nixon and Clinton also began with private hearings behind closed doors, so weāre going to be totally fine with this.

Question: If this was true and democrats DID want to impeach the Republican president right from the very first day, then WHY did Republicans elect a guy who basically dares them to do so pretty much every day?
Seems like you're kinda stupid, doesn't it? https://t.co/ydgCp44EtK

Apparently no one at the NRCC took a second to think whether sending congressional offices suspicious looking packages was a sound idea, which sounds about right.

Good for Schumer for getting out ahead on this. That can be his job while the rest of the party–Schatz, Murphy, Hirono, get Lady DiFi out there, too, The Village loves her– talks impeachment

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Exactly. He’s saying it to pre-empt Trump’s ability to do it. Or to prepare.
I’ll bet Nancy gave him the idea. Which is fine. He’s done well working with her on strategy.

@NotMax: It’s discouraging that the GOP has gone completely tribal. But not too surprising considering how the end of the Fairness Doctrine allowed the rise of FOX and “Free Market” dogma turned the internet into the worst wild west nightmare. @Mnemosyne:
I’m not sure how much this will help Trump with his taxes. People who have income from multiple states are generally taxed on that income in the state in which it is earned, not on the state they choose as their domicile. For example, professional athletes are taxed based on where their games are played, so they can wind up having to pay taxes in a dozen states. So how this will affect Trump will depend heavily on how his businesses are structured.

I understand that she had “a relationship” with a staffer, but that in and of itself doesn’t seem necessarily resignation material to me (unless there are allegations of coercion or retaliation when the relationship ended). I can sort of understand not wanting to run for reelection or the party preferring someone without the baggage running to hold the seat in 2020, but why is she resigning? She we assume there’s more to the story?

I am not a lawyer, or a Floridian, but I live in a state top-heavy with migrant snowbirds. Lots of my dual-loyalty neighbors declare themselves officially FL residents because the Sunshine State has a relatively low tax rate — especially for senior citizens.
I seem to recall Florida is also notoriously generous to bankrupts; if you can stand the ignominy, Florida’s ‘homestead rules’ gives you a much more generous ‘personal property’ exemption than stricter states like NY or MA. Bigger house, nicer / multiple vehicles, ‘personal’ jewelry, etc.
(I also seem to recall Florida divorce laws are much more favorable to the wealthier partner, but that’s another story… )

I don’t have a problem with her resigning for sleeping with a subordinate; I think not sleeping with subordinates is a good ethical line to keep.
