Cancer 0, Lily 1:

Just got back from the veterinary hospital for Lily’s final round of treatment, and she was given a clean bill of health and t hey all just gushed about how she was really tough and was doing great. Been a long 18 months, but we did it. And now we nap:

We don’t have any more treatments, I just need to monitor her and in three months go back for some bloodwork.

    YAY Miss beautiful Lily. I remember when you told us she was sick and would not survive. I was in work, in front of my computer in Dublin and I said (I thought to myself) “Oh fuck me, no.” And my work friend said “Helen are you OK?” Only then did I realize I was talking out loud.

    Pittsburgh is such an advanced city, you’re lucky to be living in the rural Northern Panhandle of WV but still so near a really great city!

    OT — we went to see Current War — The Director’s Cut this late afternoon, a great movie. A little choppy as the viewpoint moves back and forth from Westinghouse to Edison to Nicolai Tesla, but then I realized that was intentional to build the tension of that time.

    Lots of money at stake, but great cinematography, great sets from the World’s Fair in Chicago and Westinghouse’s factory floor. Rich texture in the film. There were only 6 of us in the house for the showing…

    Happy tears for our sweet girl. John, I was sobbing like a baby when we first got the news about Lily, but you had faith, and now look at where we are today.

    I have always felt that being stubborn is an asset as dogs get older or get sick. Lily doesn’t have a stubborn bone in her body, but her love for you is fierce and that got her through. Happy day.

    Itā€™s a double joy to hear this news, since Lily is such a sweetheart, and also b/c sheā€™s giving cancer a big old middle finger (middle claw?!) on behalf of the fur kiddos lost to that damnable disease.

    Yeah, Lily!! You are so loved, so strong, and are such a good, good doggie!
