    I would think this verdict would have a strong effect on potential witnesses in the House hearings being chaired by Mr. Schiff — no one wants to be infamous for perjury in a famous case like this. The also despicable Mr. Barr may even have second thoughts about conspiring to obstruct justice and tamper with the upcoming elections.

    In case that was a serious question, normally sentencing is scheduled 2-3 months post conviction to allow the Probation Department to produce a Pre-sentence investigation report (PSR) for the Judge.

    @Marcopolo: The more space she can create for herself that she’s not going to take away people’s insurance, no matter how good or bad that insurance is, the better she will do. Regardless of the reality, this part of Medicare for All polls really badly. People get really scared of having their insurance taken away even if they would be getting something better. It’s sort of a sunk cost fallacy hysteria problem. And, since the election is going to be decided in 6 to 12 states or so, she, or any Democratic nominee, has to thread the needle in them. Playing to the base on this one is likely to be damaging in the states that will decide the Electoral College outcome in the general election.

    I think it is that Republicans Want us to be a monarchy, with Republicans as the royalty. In their imagination, members of the federal government swear fealty to the President, whereas in reality no one swears any oath to support any President, but to the Constitution itself.

    That’s part of the oath Trump supposedly swore to become President… of course he didn’t listen to that oath, has never read the oath, doesn’t understand the whole concept of swearing an oath to the set of principles embodied in the Constitution, and so has no idea that there is a superior American interest to which his employees must adhere to, as opposed to Trump.

    I’m not sure we really need to impeach someone who obviously has no recollection of his sworn oath. I would love to have Trump in the witness stand under an oath (there’s that funny word again, what DOES it mean?) to tell the truth, and be able to ask him to tell us the oath he swore on inauguration day, 2017. I don’t think he even would recall the gist of that oath, could tell us what he swore to do, other than become king of all.

It is set up so the Chair and Ranking Member, or their Majority and Minority Counsels (Goldman for the Democrats, Castor for the Republicans) get 45 minutes each for questioning with the majority going first. Then we go to the five minute rounds for every committee member that we’re used to seeing. The first five minute round goes to the Chair and the second the ranking member, then back and forth among the majority and minority members.

    Hearing went very, very badly for Republicans.  The Trump tweets and Roger Stone convictions (7!) were icing on the cake.

    I hope his sentences add up to about 50 years. Might give him some incentive to flip, in exchange for reducing that number.

    If there’s any actual prospect of that he’ll hang himself with Epstein’s belt first.
