Here’s a nice, clean new post for when the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence comes back in to session after the scheduled morning votes in the House to resume hearing the testimony of Ambassador Yovanovitch.

Traitors, all the way down. Her testimony is just damning. Rethuglicans tried to smear Taylor and Kent (“Oh, they’re the *star* witnesses!”), while saying that it was all Gossip Girls nattering. Well here you go fuckheads. First hand account of one of the most qualified diplomat we have and it’s just disgusting. And this is just the tip of the shitberg.
Wapiti
@Leto: all the way down.
I listened to a little CSPAN, they were taking calls on their Republican call-in-line and every single one of the calls made excuses for Trump and accusations against Schiff. Fox seems to be very good at destroying American values.
zhena gogolia
I do not have time to watch uninterruptedly, but what I saw has simply broken my heart. I pray that we still have time to at least halt if not reverse the horrific damage Trump and the Republican Party have done to our nation.

I think I just had a comment *disappear* after refresh. Ironically I was trying to test the reply function, which didn’t seem to work.
ETA: now it’s showed up again.
Adam L Silverman
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I have the reply issue intermittently. I’ve found that if you close the comment box, then hit reply a second time, the person you’re replying to shows up. Not a fix, but a workaround.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Adam L Silverman: Yeah, it’s a workaround, but either a good number of jackals either don’t know about it or don’t want to go though the hassle of doing it. It really makes threads difficult to read.

I was channel surfing and George Steph and the rest of the ABC news staff trashed trump’s tweet. It’s nice to see that it is getting some push back, but will it be forgotten by the evening news.

Looks like Roger Stone verdict coming in – I saw three counts as “guilty” so far :)
Adam L Silverman
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I’m getting ready to send a punch list to Cole and Watergirl of stuff still needing attention that I’ve noticed this AM, it’s on it.
Eural Joiner
Having trouble posting? Roger Stone getting a lot of “guilty” verdicts :)

Just saw a tweet by Mark Hertling that said soldiers are called “diplomats in khaki” and people like Amb. Yovanovitch are soldiers in suits.

Roger Stone – guilty on ALL 7 counts! Hellz to the yeah :)

@Adam L Silverman: Thanks, I’m sure it’s on their punch list, but it needs to have the highest priority. The reply function was the one thing I said I really hated when I tested the ‘golive’ site.

Roger Stone is going away. I fear his time showering in the federal slam may be awkward on account of his shoulder tattoo of Former President (nearly Impeached) Richard Nixon…
I have put our last bottle of French white sparkling wine into the newly delivered refrigerator to chill for this evening’s dinner. We plan to toast each guilty verdict returned against the very despicable Mr Stone. Chilled stemware and all !!!
I would think this verdict would have a strong effect on potential witnesses in the House hearings being chaired by Mr. Schiff — no one wants to be infamous for perjury in a famous case like this. The also despicable Mr. Barr may even have second thoughts about conspiring to obstruct justice and tamper with the upcoming elections.

It’s a sad day in America when a fine American patriot — i.e., Roger Stone — is convicted by a jury of
wombatskangaroos. And, apparently borrowing a phrase from someone he helped, he was heard to shout at the kangaroos “NO GUILTY! NO GUILTY! YOU’RE THE GUILTY!”
I hope his sentences add up to about 50 years. Might give him some incentive to flip, in exchange for reducing that number.

Is Roger Stone convicted in Federal or State court? Can Trump pardon him?
I wish NY could happen to have a warrant to be listening and recording Stone and Stone called Trump to demand a pardon with threats to release damaging information. I keep wondering what it would take to get Republicans on board with impeachment. They seem to have heads of stone.

February 6th is probably not specific to him. The docket is what it is. Yes, he will be out and under a gag order until then, despite the recommendations of the Prosecution. Will he run? Who knows?

I’m not sure where Castor might be intending to go with his questioning, but so far he’s doing a good job of letting her advance her narrative.
Adam L Silverman
@Marcopolo: The more space she can create for herself that she’s not going to take away people’s insurance, no matter how good or bad that insurance is, the better she will do. Regardless of the reality, this part of Medicare for All polls really badly. People get really scared of having their insurance taken away even if they would be getting something better. It’s sort of a sunk cost fallacy hysteria problem. And, since the election is going to be decided in 6 to 12 states or so, she, or any Democratic nominee, has to thread the needle in them. Playing to the base on this one is likely to be damaging in the states that will decide the Electoral College outcome in the general election.

I just turned on the testimony on MSNBC and after hearing Adam “Stone cold gavel” Schiff shut Stephanik down, I’m stoked. However, I cannot stand to listen to the Republican thuggery as they twist, turn, and contort everything that the Ambassador says, so I’m going to ignore it and check in from time to time. @Marcopolo:
I think it is that Republicans Want us to be a monarchy, with Republicans as the royalty. In their imagination, members of the federal government swear fealty to the President, whereas in reality no one swears any oath to support any President, but to the Constitution itself.
That’s part of the oath Trump supposedly swore to become President… of course he didn’t listen to that oath, has never read the oath, doesn’t understand the whole concept of swearing an oath to the set of principles embodied in the Constitution, and so has no idea that there is a superior American interest to which his employees must adhere to, as opposed to Trump.
I’m not sure we really need to impeach someone who obviously has no recollection of his sworn oath. I would love to have Trump in the witness stand under an oath (there’s that funny word again, what DOES it mean?) to tell the truth, and be able to ask him to tell us the oath he swore on inauguration day, 2017. I don’t think he even would recall the gist of that oath, could tell us what he swore to do, other than become king of all.
Adam L Silverman
@mrmoshpotato: Yes. It is set up so the Chair and Ranking Member, or their Majority and Minority Counsels (Goldman for the Democrats, Castor for the Republicans) get 45 minutes each for questioning with the majority going first. Then we go to the five minute rounds for every committee member that we’re used to seeing. The first five minute round goes to the Chair and the second the ranking member, then back and forth among the majority and minority members.
Elizabelle

@BobS: He is unprepared because he thought Stefanik was going to be asking her about the conspiracy theories they’re pushing as a defense/smokescreen. So he has to tap dance because Schiff wouldn’t let Nunes yield his time to Stefanik. I think the idea was that the optics would look better if a young woman questioned Ambassador Yovanovitch, rather than any of the Republican men of the committee. And with the exception of Stefanik, every Republican on the committee is a man.

Eh, I beg to differ, a little bit. He may seem sane, but he’s sure been hanging tough in his defense of Trump. Once it looks as if he’s going to vote in favor of impeachment, then I’ll believe he’s sane. ;) But I understand perfectly why you would call him that, given all the other options.

@jeffreyw: Yay, thank you Jay

One of the Democrats needs to use their time asking about the Trump spawn:
‘Are you aware of the patents Ivanka Trump was granted in China after her father became president?’, etc.
Also, Schiff needs to be provided with an on/off switch for the microphones.

Ratcliffe: Mr Chairman, HUNTERBIDENMUSTBECALLEDTOTESTIFY!1!!
JPL
@BobS: haha I wish. Daddy would shit in his pants.
emrys
@Gin & Tonic: well, I managed to lose a much more solemn and long-winded response, but tell him to go for it. This too shall pass and it is well worth the bad times.

The Republicans big signs look ridiculous, very undignified..
BobS
@JPL: It would serve the purpose of baiting the toddler-in-chief.
But I really think it would be an effective immediate follow up to the intimations of corruption with respect to Biden’s son getting a seat on the Berisma board (which, truth be told, was pretty fucking ill-advised).
Adam L Silverman
@Elizabelle: He was also drunk. He was slurring his speech pretty badly.
?BillinGlendaleCA
Wow, first time I’ve actually seen Gym Jordan live; what DICK!
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Adam L Silverman: Ya think he was engaging in a bit of day drinkin’?
Gin & Tonic
@emrys: Thanks for that. But he’s got an assignment for the next year, so nothing will change for now.
BobS
I think it’s smart to continue to allude to Trump’s tampering in real time this morning. Every Democrat should be mentioning it.
Ohio Mom
@Elizabelle: Ah Dr. Brad Wenstrup, the podiatrist and Tea Partier. My Rep of my mega-gerrymandered District.
Elizabelle
@ Ohio Mom:
My sympathies. I hope you get a better MOC one of these days. Soon.
Elizabelle
@ Adam S:
Chris Stewart was drunk? Is he a jack Mormon? (Or just a hero to them?)
Adam L Silverman
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Perhaps. I find it interesting given where he’s from and who he represents in Congress, but it isn’t my place to police other’s religiosity.
BobS
@Adam L Silverman: Don’t police their religiosity, but it’s okay to point out their hypocrisy.
Mary G
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I was just thinking how junky those Republicans ‘ signs look. Reminds me of how highways used to look when littered with billboards before Lady Bird Johnson went on her America Beautiful campaign.
Adam L Silverman
@Elizabelle: I don’t know. He was slurring his speech. So maybe something else was going on. As to his standing – good, bad, or otherwise – with the tenets of his faith, that I cannot answer.
JWR
Standing O for Schiff. ;)
Elizabelle
Or for Yovanovitch? Anyway, it was heartening to see.
Hearing went very, very badly for Republicans. The Trump tweets and Roger Stone convictions (7!) were icing on the cake.
Chris Johnson
If there’s any actual prospect of that he’ll hang himself with Epstein’s belt first.
