@ Cheryl: we need photos of the kittehs in the snow! Enjoy.
Betty Cracker
Don’t know a ton about Rep. Val Demings because I don’t live in her district, but she’s impressed me during these hearings. Democrats have a pretty weak bench in Florida, so every time I see an impressive politician, I hope they’ll run for governor someday…
Elizabelle
@Betty Cracker: And I just plain like her voice, and Rep. Sewell’s voice. They’re so calm and professional.
Krishnamurthi up. I like him a lot.
mistermix loves your ass
I have to take a break. Too much Chalupa.
Elizabelle
Fiona Hill has been accused of being a mole for George Soros in the White House ? Really?
Yes. It’s a Roger Stone and Alex Jones and Infowars extravaganza.
FIona Hill. The globalist leftist Soros insider who has infiltrated McMaster’s staff.
She says she’s not a leftist.
zhena gogolia
@Elizabelle:
I like them too.
Soprano2
Had to tap out, couldn’t take it anymore after Gym Jordan.

The Soros conspiracy theories are the “new Protocols of the Elders of Zion.” Right on!
Elizabelle
They’re talking about antisemitism now. She brings up the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as one of the longest running conspiracy theories. She had wanted to write about the topic.
Gin & Tonic
@mistermix loves your ass: Part of me wishes Schiff would subpoena her. She’s no Fiona Hill, but it really wouldn’t turn out the way Nunes wants.
Elizabelle
@zhena gogolia: Balm for the ears. And whip smart too.
The difference in quality in the two parties’ committee members kind of speaks for itself.
zhena gogolia
No Nunes for me at this point. Let me know if he sets himself on fire.
Roger Moore
@zhena gogolia:
I assume you mean literally, since he’s been doing that figuratively for a long time.
Soprano2
Well, Nunes sure knows about show trial-type hearings. It’s all projection with them, what with all the Benghazi hearings and such.
Gin & Tonic
@Roger Moore: OT, but saw from a pic you posted a week or two ago that you got a Z7. A) how do you like it and B) what drove your decision to choose that over the Z6 (seems to me like a big bump for not necessarily a lot of functionality.) And C), I guess, are you using the FTZ, or native Z-mount lenses?
trollhattan
Betty “Gator” C,
What’s your take on the UOF student body president’s Donny Jr. $50k grift? [ftfnyt link] Quite the tangled Republican web for a young’n.

@Gin & Tonic:
I’m not him but if I were pondering the line, it would be Z7 or nothing, because of the sensor. IIUC similar sensor (with added PDAF array) to the D850 which, by IQ, is their best camera. Z6 is 25MP vs. 46MP. “Go big or go home.”
zhena gogolia
Haha, Schiff, “and I would like the use the word here.”
JPL
Wouldn’t it be lovely if Schiff said my republican colleagues are more concerned about the president’s tweets than they are about protecting our democracy against Russian interference.
Elizabelle
Schiff is really taking on the GOP committee members and their squid ink of shit. “The Secret Hearings.” Etc. How they smear some people, but not the others.
The GOP does deserve ridicule. And some of them deserve prison. I hope the Parnas stuff really causes Nunes some legal headaches.
Jay
@trollhattan:
grifting always starts early with those “blessed” with “The Farce”,
Elizabelle
@matryoshka: Cool. Yea Illinois! It’s been a pleasure to “meet” some of the younger congressmembers.
JPL
@JPL: He’s definitely close though. Thank you Schiff.
I’m still all in for Jon Hamm playing his role.
oatler.
Schiff is really spitting nails about (I assume) Nunes.
Roger Moore
@Gin & Tonic:
A) I really like the Z7. It’s considerably smaller and lighter than my old D800, and they’re just getting started with the amazing lenses.
B) Pixels. I like to be able to print really big- I have several 24×36 prints of my photos- and more pixels is always better when you want to do that.
C) I have mostly been shooting with the Z-mount 24-70/4, which for me was a big selling point of the camera. I love that it’s a lot smaller and lighter than my old 24-70/2.8, and it’s incredibly sharp across the frame. I do use the FTZ adapter when I have a lens that doesn’t have a Z-series equivalent, or where it doesn’t seem worthwhile to buy a replacement. Some of the rock art photos in the gallery I posted recently (and have as the link for my name) were taken with my F-mount 300/4 and the FTZ adapter, including some using a 1.7x TC.
Jay
Mr. Mack
I believe this is the angriest I’ve ever seen Schiff.
Roger Moore
@trollhattan:
Pretty much. And you’re right, it’s not just the pixels- though that was very important to me- it’s also the dynamic range. At ISO 64, the raw files have an absurd amount of detail, very low noise, and enough dynamic range that you can really squeeze a lot out of them in post. And it doesn’t hurt that they still have low enough noise at ISO 1600 that they require only a tiny bit of noise reduction, even after some vigorous tweaking of the contrast curve.

“Where is Howard Baker?” My husband and I were saying the same thing this morning!
Elizabelle
Yes, this is way, way worse than Watergate. Tell it, Adam Schiff. “This is way beyond what Nixon did.”
“And it’s the difference between that Congress and this one.
Where is Howard Baker? Where are the people who are willing to look beyond their party and do their duty.”
He is sicker of the howler monkeys than we are.

zhena gogolia
Who did he mean by “my great colleague”?
Elizabelle
Schiff: “The day after Robert Mueller testified Donald Trump is back on the phone, asking another nation to intervene in American elections. There is nothing more dangerous than an unethical president who believes he is above the law.
We are better than that. Adjourned.”
Gavel. Applause.
Yes, that was the angriest I have ever seen Adam Schiff.
NotMax
Need a smoke after Schiff’s closing statement. Several, in fact. Wow.
Gin & Tonic
@Roger Moore: Thanks.
Even at that size, with a Z6 you’re at 168 PPI.
Elizabelle
@NotMax: Yeah. I hope a front pager will embed it in a post, for the benefit of those who missed it.
We watched history today.
Elizabelle
C-Span went to an interview with Jim Jordan. “What we saw: This is not about the facts.”
Click. Done with C-Span for now. No stepping on Schiff’s closing statement.
JPL
Jordan is a tad defensive..

For those who might still be confused about “black ledger” references, an article here.

When Adam Schiff is all cool, calm, collected, and unflappable through the whole hearing despite all the howler monkeys flinging poo at him for hours, then brings out the righteous wrath in his closing statement, I get the proverbial tingle up my leg. It lifts my heart. Poor old Nunes with his monotonal recitations of ridiculous talking points of the day just has to sit there and seethe.
zhena gogolia
@NotMax:
That was a speech for the ages.
I just called Jim Himes’s office to thank him. He’s not my Rep, but at least he’s in my state!

@Mr. Mack:
And it’s a
safegood bet Adam Schiff’s diatribe will be sure to make all the evening news recaps: along with Fiona Hill’s broad Durham vowels shredding the GOP’s “case” – as much as they have one.Unfortunately, we have (as John Edwards once famously put) Two Americas: and the one that lives in the fact-free alternate reality of the RW media bubble is probably only going to see a carefully-edited version of today’s hearings (as they have been seeing all along). I’m sure tomorrow, someone here is going to be hearing from a friend/colleague/relative about how “Nunes and Jordan sure shredded those State Department hacks!!”, and be (possibly honestly) amazed than anyone could think otherwise…

I just left a message for Schiff too.

Gonna read the transcript of this hearing today. It’s incredible to me that you can have this level of testimony and still have people proclaiming the Senate will never convict.
The Republicans have indeed gone to the devil since Watergate.
A lot can change, and come out, between now and a Senate vote, though.

Sloane Ranger
I thought it interesting that when Gym Jordan gave his post hearing interview, the only person standing with him was Kevin McCarthy? Previously, there was a whole gaggle of Republican nodding heads behind him. Their tails are definitely between their legs at the moment.
I was watching on CNN but they switched to coverage of the Bibi indictment so I missed Fiona Hill’s testimony about Lt. Col. Vindman. I understand that she defended him against Republican smears. Can someone fill me in please?
Betty Cracker
@Elizabelle: Love it — thanks! :)
Mr. Mack
Question for you legal beagles…Any chance Rudy gets charged? If so, he can’t claim attorney/client privilege since he would likely be charged with a felony, amirite?
O. Felix Culpa
@Sloane Ranger: My very rough recollection and paraphrase is that she first said it’s really awkward/unfair to have an individual’s performance review or skills assessment brought up in public, particularly out of context. Second, she said that Lt. Col. Vindman was very good at his job. Third, her one and only reservation about him arose in the context of the politicization of Ukraine dealings, namely that his background and training are in the military arena and that he might not have the temperament or skills to handle a political situation – which by that time it had clearly become. So she was giving Morrison (her replacement) a commentary on Vindman’s – and other staffers’ – strengths and weaknesses, which she correctly said was normal in providing employee info in a handover situation, and one to which she is also subject. She made it clear that Vindman had done nothing wrong and was a valued colleague of highest integrity.
