I want one of these cycles, and I’m not even chairbound (yet)…
I think this is in Germany. They have bike lanes and don't use helmets a lot. I don't think this reaches the speed of a motorcycle and is much safer.

For those looking for the specific device in the video?
It's the Pendel Wheelchair Scooter:https://t.co/yRG1U3CmWN

I was thinking it looked like small town Netherlands, like where I had spent some time. Turns out the company is in Oldenzaal.
Major Major Major Major
Oh how cool!
Saw Knives Out today, good fun if you’re into cozies.
about $14,500 Looks awesome
@Mike J: I might actually know someone who works on these. I’ll have to throw a tweet at him about it.
35 hours down, 10 to go working at Walmart this weekend.
Paradise High School (of Paradise, CA, ya know, that town that basically burned to the ground) plays for an undefeated championship season tonight. Nice story.
Game should be just about over. Haven’t seen any scores on Twitter yet.
Does this scooter come in sizes suitable for a bigger dog?
James E Powell
Sadly, not to be.
Paradise High School lost to Sutter Union High School 20-7 in the Northern Section Division III championship.
@James E Powell:
Bummer. Still a helluva story. Thanks for the update.
Good morning, Jackals !
As a senior citizen living in building with many residents riding a ‘mobi’ (‘mobility device’, what the professionals call them), am quite interested in Ways To Keep Living Independently Longer. Glad to hear about this stuf.
If you’re looking for interesting Yule gifts, the boardgame An Infamous Traffic – about smuggling opium into 19th-century China

I’m Paradise High, class of ’80.
It’s a nice story. PHS has always taken sportsball pretty seriously.

I hope this conveyance has more stability that the 3-wheeled ATV of yesteryear. No helmet needed to operate it?
@Jay: Just wanted to thank you for posting all the tweets. Learning a lot from your posting.
love the new ?.
Hope everyone is safe. Heard your having big storms, not sure exactly where. We are having a heat wave, lowest temp for next week is tomorrow 34C. Yuk!
Random musing: several jackals have mentioned pet-sitter issues; maybe we could create a volunteer pool?
I’m in New England and pet-less and I’d love to spend some time with a wee beastie or two.
If anyone local has travel plans hit me up at my name plus gmail; I know nothing about ducks or amphibians but would be delighted to learn. And no, I will not take your problem spouse or children off your hands—I’m lonely, not insane.
@hervevillechaizelounge: And no, I will not take your problem spouse or children off your hands
Damn. I was *this* close….
@SWMBO: Spoiled sport.
I wouldn’t put it past him to invade.
@hervevillechaizelounge: Wee beastie or two! Hehe
Holy cow. House Intelligence has apparently decided that they’ve heard enough for now, which fits with the idea that time may be of the essence. A vote on the committee report is to be Tuesday evening. [Link added on edit]
Meanwhile, something to help absorb the heebie-jeebies:
@BethanyAnne: Hope it goes fast…hang in there!
Just got another ‘Bad Gateway’ error.
Yes, that does seem to be a thing with the new site.
Bet it has to do with server updating/maintenance. I’ve seen this in other places and it only goes on for a few minutes.
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Okay it wasn’t just me then…
@Ruckus: Yeah that’s probably it. I didn’t get one and I just opened the site at about the same time as the others noticed it.
Having a quiet cup of coffee before heading out.
@Ruckus: Yeah, it seems to happen around the same time it night.
@Amir Khalid: The old site just seem to be a bit sluggish.
@Yutsano: Not this time.
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Got a screen shot of it which indicates host problems. Like you say, just a few minutes.
Apparently, “trikes” like this vehicle are susceptible to tipping over when making turns. Unlike a motorcycle, trikes are unable to lean into curves, but they also lack the stability of 4 wheel vehicles. Nice idea though! (helping disabled folks become more mobile and more self sufficient).
@?BillinGlendaleCA: but the sluggish would last well into the morning, as I remember it.
Wasn’t sure but thought I heard gunfire a few minutes ago. I did, the cops are at the corner. Glad I’m not leaving the house for another hour, hope whatever is going on is over by then.
@satby: Good thing you’re not headed out now.
Here’s a pic to brighten your day.
@Lumpy: Trikes can be fairly stable if the wheel design is reversed, with two wheels in front, one in back.
I don’t think this electric trike goes fast enough for that to be an issue.
This is a Huka Pendel. It’s an electric wheelchair scooter made in the Netherlands (per one of the tweets).
It can reach a speed of 15mph and has a range of almost 40 miles. It’s around $13,000 without shipping which would probably be $1,000-$2,000 depending how far from a major port you live. Add customs and maybe local registration taxes. This could get away being classified similar as a golf cart I suppose.
@satby: If the cops are there, it’s all over except for the clean up. And the traffic diversions. And the onlookers. Which at this hour probably ain’t much.
@Lumpy: I remember an episode of Top Gear that featured Robin Reliant. Every time it tried to make a turn it tipped over.
People often get this wrong: that three-wheeled car was actually the Reliant Robin.
O. Felix Culpa
@satby: Are you leaving today for your trip? Hope you have a wonderful time! And if you’re going to the market, hope that’s fine too. ?
Premier League: Norch v Arse 2-2. Freddie Ljungberg as Arse’s caretaker manager, now bald as an egg, and still propah eye candy.
@Amir Khalid: Sadly, it turns out Jeremy had their tech center make it more unstable for the episode.
