At least eight of the top ten ‘Worldwide Trending’ terms on twitter right now seem to be related to a particular New England sportsball game, and I hear it did not go well for the home team…

Sending my thoughts and prayers to the New England Patriots.

Otter in a hat looks like ready to throw a jab, or chop. Ninja Otter in a Hat?
Thanks to AL for cute petpix.
And…. any of those kick proof TVs get to Boston in time for today’s game. I sure hope so.
TaMara (HFG)
I think we’re gonna need those TVs to get through 2020. It’s only the 4th and I’ve wanted to put my foot through mine several times already.
And you’ve probably killed Cole again with another cute otter picture.
Jackie
LOL @David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch: ? My Nashville son-in-law is THRILLED! Their reward: heading to Baltimore. Gooooo Titans!

41 Strange may get me through 2020.

The Patriots had a helluva run but dynasties blow up eventually and generally it’s not very pretty.
Maybe they can offer Gronk a few billion dollars to get him out of retirement, but I think he saw the handwriting on the wall and got the hell outta there while the gettin was good.

Oh, they’ve missed a trick. When you kick a TV set, it should display a big red sign saying “STOP THAT!” and then make you press the “Sorry” button on the remote.

Had an all kids sailing class last summer, all 12-14. Completely lost them for 20 minutes when I pointed out an otter that climbed on the deck.
Eventually got to sailing, but for the rest of the day you could see them looking for otters.
CaseyL
The Patriots lost?
And they’re out of the playoffs?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (breathe) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Damn, I wish I’d been watching. Always nice to see that crew lose.

I don’t believe that’s a kick proof TV.

Please, just, don’t. The only hope we have of getting Tom Brady to retire is if we look for other-than-divine intervention.

Tonight, in the third round of England’s FA Cup (the oldest knockout competition in world football) world champions, European champions, and Premier League leaders Liverpool (I just love saying that) face Everton, their neighbours from across Stanley Park.
Everton just lost the League Merseyside derby 5-2. On previous form alone, one would expect Liverpool to prevail. But their new manager Carlo Ancelotti was, in his previous job at Napoli, the manager who beat Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Champions League group stage two years in a row. And Klopp has a history of fielding second-stringers and youth players in the Cup, then crashing out early.

@The Dangerman: Watching Bill Belichek grimace, squirm and slowly lose by one point was a great football moment. Here’s to the beginning of a lasting Patriot demise.

@Mike J: Okay, I can see making otters out of plywood for the kids, but why cover then in green felt?
CaseyL
@David ??Merry Christmas?? Koch: Thanks! More of a stomping than I thought.
I like these highlight reels. All of the excitement, none of the empty bafflegab by color commentators (though I do exempt Romo from that; he’s a joy to listen to).
I Skype with my Mom every Sunday. She lives in Florida and is a long time Dolphin fan/sufferer. Tannehill was a Dolphin for a while, but the team not only didn’t know what to do with him, it didn’t have an OL worth the fabric in their uniforms. Poor Ryan spent more time on his back than a sex worker. It’ll be interesting to talk to Mom tomorrow, see what she says about how he’s playing now that he’s got an actual team around him.

@Duane:
I think they are done. Without looking, name the depth chart for QB’s in New England. Brady is long gone from NE (I hope to retire to chasing his supermodel wife, but he will probably play a season or 2 longer than he should, kinda like Namath in LA, who finally had to retire when he was told he couldn’t bring crutches or a walker onto the field).
This ain’t a game for 40 somethings and it’s really amazing what Brady has done but it’s time to call it a day.
Mike J
@Omnes Omnibus: Gotta keep ’em warm. The lake is 44F right now. Little felt bathrobes for otters.
Omnes Omnibus
@Mike J: That makes sense.

I’ve been on hiatus from all the (bad) news of late, and so haven’t been following all the comment threads, but I’m wondering whether this story from justsecurity, which was breaking the night before Mr. T’s Dangerously Demented drone strike, had much to do with it’s timing. (If not, I’ll just shut mah mouf.):
James E Powell
In the post-game, a reporter asked Belichick if he had any message for Patriots Nation, the fans who stick with them through thick and thin. He said, “I wouldn’t say it’s been all that thin around here, personally.” Something is truly wrecked inside him if after all his successes he cannot bring himself to show a little grace, decency, class.

@James E Powell:
Considering Belichick coached in Cleveland, a franchise that is emaciated for success, he knows what it’s like to be “thin”. We haven’t had that kind of skid since he has been the head coach with the Pats. So he’s 100% right. And he’s always been deadpan about anything not related to the details of football.
I’m just glad we got this far. This team had issues in terms of talent and injury.

@sab: I missed it. Were we mean to him? I was busy being almost sick most of the day.
I drank a lot of water and watched “Zero Dark Thirty”, just for contrast from this current shitshow, and “The Martian”. Mark Watney made it home again and I was relieved. Probably watch Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy tomorrow if I’m still feeling rough.
My doctor is putting me on a daily small amount of insulin to get ahead of the issue with my blood sugar, probably temporary. I have to go in for some specialty tests on Monday, making sure my kidneys are ok but also looking for markers for something called Diabetes 1.5. It’s a category that’s new and it’s very rare. Treatment is pretty much the same as type II. I don’t start the insulin until Tuesday. I’m kind of excited in a way that neither means happy or upset, more like very interested to see how this will work.

I am not so keen on Jay myself, since he’s directed some of his petulance at me. He’s probably just sulking for a bit; he got told off for tweet-bombing a respite thread that was supposed to be about some of WaterGirl’s lovely flower pictures. I expect he’ll be back.

Yes, indeed, and it works so much better now, too. Plus the little pictures! Endless links to tweets, though… it gets old really fast for me.
With my security settings, all I see are the links to the tweet, I have to click through to see what he’s linking to. Just, nope. And then he gets all fussy at the least little thing.

Good afternoon all! Late to the Party but YeeHaw! Titans won!!! Hubby is from Clarksville TN. Plus we always root for whoever is playing against the Patriots (living in Connecticut is weird, teams-wise) But my weekend is exciting mostly due to not one but two new adopted kittens. Both are rescues but one is a big fluffy bear of a six month old and loves everything. The other is a wiry five month old who loves people scares my dog and hates the other kitten. Oh the drama!!!
