President Trump and Vice President Pence just made an unannounced trip to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial in Washington. They stood in front of it for approximately 30 seconds with their heads bowed before turning and leaving without making remarks.

    I’ve been avoiding the joint for a bit.  Because, politics.  But have some Penny.  She’s doing great so far.

    Also:

    Declaration of Independence – July 4, 1776

    Gettysburg Address – November 19, 1863

    Letter from Birmingham Jail – April 16, 1963

    As much as I’d like to think differently, I probably won’t be around to see 2060.  So, the next good one on that list is probably up to one of your kids.

    The president and Vice President look so small standing next to Dr. King.

    When I first saw the video of IMPOTUS and VP standing there, it looked like they were taking a pee on the flowers! Ugh, that shows how little I expect from them in terms of civil behavior.

    @Jerzy Russian: Dr King never looked so fierce in life. I know he was, but it came through as persistence, not fierceness. We know now how brave he was. I am glad his statue shows that.

    I just found out today that there are ten statues of modern martyrs at Westminster Abbey in London, and Dr. King is one of them:

    @sab:

    I think the word you are looking for is resolute.

    I don’t think Dr. King wanted to be fierce. I never got that vibe. I knew he’d never give up and would take pretty much anything thrown his way but I’d say resolute fits him much better.

    @Mnemosyne:

    Very interesting. Also reading about the other 9 people with statues. Esther John struck me as one of the most interesting. Both Dr. King and Esther John were born in 1929 and she was murdered 2 yrs after Dr. King. Both had to overcome a lot to be the people they ended up and were actually similar stories.

    …I probably won’t be around to see 2060.

    Me, neither, though I will try for 2061 because of Halley’s Comet. It’s last pass in 86 was all kinds of wrong (kinda like anticipating Christmas morning, then opening presents and getting only socks and underwear). 2061 HAS to be better.

    Plus, by 2061, the Memorial for Trump will likely be finished (a stall at the spaceport with a flusher that works on the first attempt).

    Remember that video from Puerto Rico (?) where Trump moves his water bottle, and Pence immediately mimics him? Watch the above video. At about the 20 second mark, Trump moves/folds his arms, followed 2 seconds later by Pence doing the exact same thing. Very weird pair, those two.

    If we’re gonna have this holiday, then y’all at least need to know who you’re actually celebrating. MLK was not the meek and deferential person they describe him as in your history books. They even teach that practice in communication seminars.  What a disgusting pair.
