Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Infrastructure week. at last.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

John Fetterman: Too Manly for Pennsylvania.  Paid for by the Oz for Senator campaign.

Presidents are not kings, and Plaintiff is not President.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Why did Dr. Oz lose? well, according to the exit polls, it’s because Fetterman won.

“More of this”, i said to the dog.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

    Weren’t you sick already this week?   I don’t think you’re supposed to get a flu shot when you have already come down with something.

    @Baud: Just looked that up, and here’s an excerpt from USA Today:

    “Clinton reserves a special hatred and animosity for Tulsi—who never endorsed Clinton, did not campaign for her, and to top it off, gave the nomination speech for Senator Sanders at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.”

    Yeah, I’m sure Clinton was really smarting from the 2016 snub from the political juggernaut that is…Tulsi Gabbard.

    But wait — there’s more:

    Gabbard in the lawsuit claims she has “suffered significant actual damages, personally and professionally, that are estimated to exceed $50 million—and continue to this day” because of Clinton’s comments.

    I’d love to see how they arrived at that estimate.

    Jason Crow, Dem from Colorado, is making excellent points and explaining the huge value of the money promised and then denied to Ukraine. He makes the poignant point several times that Ukraine’s soldiers were going into battle wearing sneakers. No boots, no flak jackets, no helmets. Limited weapons, meager arsenal…he really spells out how important it was to have Ukraine as an ally and how important it was to help with financial assistance.

    Well said, and points that should be spelled out.

    @debbie: rehydration solution (helpful in any sweaty or other fluid/electrolyte-losing situation): 1 quart water, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 teaspoon “lite” salt (which is pretty much half regular salt, half potassium chloride). Dissolve and chill. Sip a little fairly frequently. If you cannot bear the taste, try it with a little juice, but no additional sugar beyond that. These proportions are what it takes to maximize sugar and electrolytes uptake. (At least that is what Dr. Google tells me. This is what is used in 3rd world countries in, e.g., Cholera epidemics.) Works for me.

    Trump breaks his own Twitter record with 132 tweets or retweets as of 4:45 p.m., the most of any single day of his presidency, as he defended himself and lashed out at the House managers.

    @Gin & Tonic:

    That is not going unnoticed in Ukraine. It is not to the US’s benefit.

    Trump’s M.O. is corruption; it’s one way he “owns” people; he corrupts them.
    When he says he is concerned about corruption, it’s true. He wants more of it. (Also the story about him complaining about bribery by US citizens being illegal even in other countries.)

    Dont’ worry our president will handle it, he’s handle it before! He knows more than the doctors do about this! This is serious shit. But he won’t give a shit unless somehow Mar-a-Lago is threatened.

    @eddie blake:

    but it still BAFFLES me that they would rather fight US than the actual, you know, fucking FASCISTS.

    It’s easier if you think of them as supporting fascismauthoritarianism, by helping to elect Republicans.
    (Exceptions apply for elections for positions representing super safe Democratic districts.)

    @ eddie blake The Communists refused to unite with the Social Democrats against the Nazis because the Communist claimed their was no difference between the Social Democrats and Nazis. Thus as it always is with the Hard Left, a knife the liberal back.

    The only reason Republicans are looking for a witness trade is because they know they don’t have 50 votes. They can only get there by getting Democrats on board in exchange for Bolton.

    Republicans can call as many witnesses as they can get 50 votes for.

    @WaterGirl:

    it turns out [Chief Justice Roberts] is just a Republican toady

    Overdetermined.

    1. They wouldn’t have nominated him otherwise.
    2. Citizens United
    3. Shelby County
    4. Rucho

    So his behavior in this Senate proceeding is just further confirmation of an already-undeniable fact.

    @Jeffro:

    didn’t Hillz say something like “10 Dem candidates + a Russian asset”

    No.   Secretary Clinton said “Republican asset”.  You are correct that she did not offer a name.

    The FTFNYT misquoted her as “Russian asset”.

    Gabbard [spit] immediately decided that the epithet was aimed at her own self.

    Whom the cap fit, let him wear it.

    @WaterGirl:  I happened to be watching when the yelling started.  Jeffries paused, and then quoted scripture.

    I was confused because I didn’t know spectators were allowed in these proceedings.

    The heckler was yelling about Jesus Christ and abortion, and called Schumer “The devil”
