#2019nCoV: Very important data released by @WHO's @mvankerkhove just now: Based on data from 17,000 cases, 82% of cases are mild, 15% are severe and 3% are critical.
First time I've seen that estimate of mild cases.— Helen Branswell (@HelenBranswell) February 7, 2020

IDK who needs to hear this, but #WuFlu is a terrible hashtag to adopt.
I know, it’s slangy and Wall Streety and broishly irreverent, but please don’t.
Pretty much the last thing this outbreak needs is to create confusion between the coronavirus and the flu.#ncov2019— Maryn McKenna (@marynmck) February 7, 2020

Le sigh.
No statistics yet found of impact on sales of Corona Corona premium cigars.

@NotMax: Why do I all of a sudden have this intense craving for a Corona?

@OzarkHillbilly: A virus, maybe?

Obivious joke I also made day one I heard of this virus.
Guess China’s attempt to contain the tide has had, to date, moderate success but unless it holds into spring, and (maybe) so this burns out, likely we’ll have a new flu strain. On the positive side (if thats possible), when the do develop a vaccine, I’d bet money that this vaccine will dwarf all others in the number of people who will demannd to get it.
JPL
trump will declare victory of the virus and he alone could fix it.

Little one year old grand imp was here yesterday and my cute little grandson has disappeared. No longer is the sweet child willing to sit and read books. Rather it’s time to have me chase him in circles.

@JPL: Once again a rich fuck will claim credit for the success resulting from the hard work of others. Another day ending in “Y”.
@JPL: They grow up fast. Next thing you know, he’ll be a teenager who only wants to hang with his friends. My oldest is on the cusp and I wonder how much time we will have with her going forward.
EmbraceYourInnerCrone
@Cermet: I think they will eventually be able to develop a vaccine for it and the fact that they can build on what is known about SARS and MERS will help but they probably won’t be ready for clinical trials for months yet. For comparison it took 20 months for a SARS vaccine to be developed and released. There still is not a MERS vaccine that’s been released…

The article attached to emotional diary is worth reading: a doctor who has closely observed the trajectory of the disease, and tried to identify the signs that a person might not be able to fight it off.

Thanks for the sane daily update! I haven’t had a lot of time lately but this is the first thing I look for and try to read links and comments. So appreciate this!

Thank you for doing these daily diaries. I appreciate the work it takes.
My hunch is that coronavirus is going to affect us all, at least in its economic impacts. I’m also worried about Trump using it as a tool if it gets out of control in the States, so political impacts as well

Was slightly surprised that respirators are still available at normal prices. If we get some more cases in the US there is likely to be panic buying.

@Cermet: Have you missed all the various times that these posts, including this very one, have stated that the coronavirus is NOT the flu? These posts don’t exist for you to scroll past their content and bloviate in the comments.

I find it interesting that in his 2nd life, Bill Gates doesn’t resemble the monopolistic prick that he was, as a software mogul. He really turned it around. And I mean that sincerely.
