Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

In short, I come down firmly on all sides of the issue.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

Let there be snark.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Not all heroes wear capes.

After roe, women are no longer free.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

He really is that stupid.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Anderson Cooper burns Blago to the ground, whisks the ashes into a dustpan, deposits them in a toilet and flushes…

“I’d be happy to work with people on criminal justice reform, but I wouldn’t work with you.” – Anderson Cooper (@AC360)

@Baud:  That would have required the headline to say:

“Mad, bad and dangerous to know”.

It’s 35 F right now, which is freaking COLD for us, but it’s supposed to get into the 60s later. God, I hope so because I’ll be running around all weekend.

Today, I’m driving two hours south to have brunch with some college kids (they’ll stick me with the check) and then deliver some homemade alfredo sauce to a relative who’s recovering from surgery.

Tomorrow, I’m driving an hour east to help one of the aunties figure out why her laptop bricked. That’s going to be pure hell. I am not remotely qualified to troubleshoot tech issues.

Mmmm, alfredo sauce, that’s really a good deed. It’s been much more part of my diet since the recent ulcer outbreak, likely to be appreciated. Maybe save some to take to your aunt’s to ease the frustration.

It’s 28 and I guess I should just appreciate the fact that it’s suppose to be sunny today. The rain will return on Monday though.

Latest sign that the apocalypse is upon us:

Teenagers used to aspire to become astronauts, firefighters, footballers or pop stars, but times change and so do career goals. Today, more than half of millennials and Generation Z-ers – those aged 13-38 – in the US aspire to become social media influencers, according to recent research.

    Kids these days…

The Chinese viral video app TikTok is the platform of choice for young people seeking to monetise their talents because it seen as rewarding anyone’s ability to entertain, whereas Instagram or YouTube tend to reward those who already have celebrity status.

    GET OFF MY LAWN!

And for a very lucky few, taking to TikTok could be a seriously lucrative career option. Marketeers reckon that the most popular TikTokers could currently charge close to $200,000 (£155,000) per post if they promote and collaborate with brands. Researchers at Morning Consult, a US tech research group working on behalf of the games company Online Casino, argue that TikTok is growing so fast in popularity that some influencers might even be able to charge nearly $1m per post by next year.

    Say WHAT????

Loren Gray, a 17-year-old singer from Pennsylvania, is said to be the most marketable current TikToker, with researchers estimating she could charge as much as $197,000 (£152,000) per post.

I wonder what a crusty old bastard could get there?

trump’s pardons are making capitol punishment for white collar crime look reasonable.

@OzarkHillbilly: I suspect that these pardons are setting the scene for Trump’s attempt to pardon himself.  He’s pardoning so many high-level scumbags that a treasonous, corrupt, sexually abusive president here or there will hardly be noticed.

@OzarkHillbilly: I have oft heard gentlemen of my acquaintance speak of the Cole establishment as the Versailles of West Virginia. Indeed, ’tis commonly known that the great Johannes himself doth walk among his wee, timorous, cowering blogserfs murmuring unto himself in pensive wise “It’s good to be the king.”

What a wonderful way to start the morning – Warren flicking Bernie out of the conversation like a stray hair hair, and Cooper curb-stomping blago!

Had an acquaintance who strenuously avoids talking politics bring up how impressive Warren’s debate performance was. She really got people’s attention. She torched Bloomberg. Can’t wait to see her napalm trump!

How…how did Blago get on the subject?

Everyone else’s idea of criminal justice reform is “Blago being in prison for 20 years”.

I can’t decide if he doesn’t realize that, or doesn’t care. My hunch is the latter.

    @Betty Cracker: Bless your heart!

My husband and I are the ones who live in proximity to both surviving elderly moms. His sister, who also lives here, has conveniently separated herself from her mother for some dumb reasons, so my hubby and I are the “go-to” people for anything and everything.

This includes errands, home repairs, shopping, doctor visits, troubleshooting the cable TV issues, and pretty much anything else on the list. I really don’t mind helping and I know we’re lucky to still have them around. We’ve had to remind them from time to time, though, that we are both still working and can’t always come running 24/7.

And these are the ones who are wildly ambitious.

I bet somewhere there is this:

Q: What do you want to do when you grow up?

A: Same thing I’m doing now. Post up videos of myself playing video games.

Q: What do you want to do when you grow up?

    A. Grow up? Are you fucking crazy? Look at the grownups, be like that? Never.

Fast forward 25 yrs – Everything looks exactly the same, with different phones.

@Betty Cracker: You need help, call me. Is this a windows laptop? Buy a 32 GB thumbdrive, put windows on it, from the free W7 website, and you can restore it, if it’s torched.
