Welcome to Wimpy Wednesday.
OzarkHillbilly
Anybody else having difficulties getting twitter?
Baud
@OzarkHillbilly: Works for me.
debbie
Unsurprised, yet sad. Perfect for a Wednesday.

Hey OH. We were yakking a couple weeks ago about carbon capture, and you expressed skepticism as to whether companies were actually sequestering CO2. Well, I was reading last week about implementation of the “Q45” tax credit, and sure enough the Trump people are trying to set up an honor system for qualifying for credits, instead of strict auditing. So your skepticism was well founded. I still think it’s a good program. But like the rest of the federal government, it badly needs new management.
Baud
What’s with all the question marks in the tweets? Is that a Twitter thing?

I’ve been up an hour enjoying the lamentations of the Bernbots, but watching that gymnast has me tired enough for a nap already. Whoa!
satby
I’m sure I’m not the only person whose disappointment about Warren’s lackluster showing is greatly tempered by the feeling that at least it looks like we’ll have a real Democratic nominee instead of one of the carpet baggers to vote for in November.
debbie
@satby:
Why are none of the others watching him???
satby
@debbie: looks like it’s just a practice session in a gym. Maybe they’ve seen it multiple times already as he rehearsed.
Baud
@satby:
Nope. Same here. Although I came to the conclusion that Warren didn’t have a path before yesterday. Still, the scale of the loss yesterday was a disappointment.
Steeplejack
@Baud:
That’s how emojis come out if they can’t be displayed (or aren’t picked up in the copy/paste process).
OzarkHillbilly
@Baud: It’s working for me now.

@OzarkHillbilly:
Yeah every time I go there it’s full of assholes.
Baud
@Steeplejack: Thanks!
satby
@Baud: and she’s going to go back to being a powerhouse Senator, maybe in a Senate with a Democratic majority, at worst. Possibly tapped to head Treasury if stars align later. I wanted to vote for her, but I can live with these results.
Steeplejack
@satby:
I agree with all of this. But I also can’t believe that Sanders apparently is going to win California. I guess Biden was hurt by people voting for Warren and Bloomberg, but still . . .
Baud
@satby: Given the current alternatives, so can I.
@Steeplejack: Sanders was always projected to win California big. Biden was hurt by early voting there.

Good Morning, Everyone ???

@rikyrah: Good morning.

@Geminid: I have earned my skepticism the hard way.

@rikyrah:
Good morning. ?

Does Bloomberg drop out or is he inspired by American Samoa to soldier on? The next big question in this race.
Steeplejack
@Baud:
I’m exercising my Bernie animus. I can see how voters, especially young ones, respond to his lofty promises and his calls for a “new politics,” but I can’t get past the hurdle of how is he going to actually get anything done.
Morning Joe just showed a clip from his speech last night. Probably triggered me.
OzarkHillbilly
@debbie: You notice that too, eh?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Baud: Yup, pretty sure election day voters went more for Joey B.

So anything interesting happen last night?
I deliberately tried to not pay attention and binged the first three episodes of the latest season of Outlander instead. Was gobsmacked when I was done around 11 and headed to bed. Before shutting off the tv, I caught a few minutes of coverage. Couldn’t believe what was happening. Biden couldn’t have had a better night if he’d engineered it himself. But he didn’t; it was the voters and, I think, Jim Clyburn. Pretty amazing.
OzarkHillbilly
@Chyron HR: That’s now I know it’s working.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Steeplejack: I usually turned the sound off when his ads came on, being yelled at late in the evening makes it difficult to sleep.
Baud
@geg6:
And he did it with very little money or ground game. It was really a bottom up victory.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@rikyrah: Yup, good number of voters held their ballots to vote late.
eclare
@Steeplejack: What did you think would happen?
Shalimar
@Baud: The answer to that question depends on whether Bloomberg has been telling the truth about being in it to beat Trump. If that is really his goal, then dropping out and endorsing Biden is the best result he is going to get. He got into the race when it looked like Biden was unraveling.
If his goal is to win for himself, then he will stay in or run as an independent, and risk giving us Bernie as our nominee.
rikyrah
Steeplejack
@eclare:
I hadn’t been following the projections, and I thought maybe Biden would narrowly win in California after his bump last weekend.
OzarkHillbilly
FTFNYT: California Had Its Driest February on Record. Here’s How Bad It Was.
satby
@Steeplejack: he might still win a plurality, but he’s not taking home all the marbles. His lead was significantly reduced, and they’re nowhere near done counting.

@geg6: And to think we had a troll last week exclaiming that Clyburn’s endorsement meant nothing, and that Wilmer was unstoppable.

Can someone explain to me how Trump got 1.8 million votes in the Texas primary against essentially no opposition . That’s around the same number as Democrats turned out in the state.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@OzarkHillbilly: We’ve had 0.37″ of rain here since January 1st.
ETA: They’re predicting a series of storms for next week which should help a bit.
Steeplejack
@satby:
Are you talking about Biden or Sanders?
geg6
@Baud:
Yup. Looks like African Americans and suburban women made up their minds and came out in droves and the vaunted historic revolutionary youth vote did not. The 2018 base has spoken.
geg6
@John S.:
Berners truly have no understanding of the black community, especially in the south, and women. And they don’t want to. Fuck ‘em, as a great man once said.
satby
@Steeplejack: sorry, Sanders. If it holds that he underperformed his polling numbers and there’s a late surge for Biden (both likely) Sanders won’t get as big a delegate share as was expected only last Saturday. This sparks much joy.
Baud
@geg6: Aww. I wish he were with us to celebrate this.
schrodingers_cat
@rikyrah: How have you been? Thanks for the thoughtful comment on my blog post.

@NotMax: Dyson immortality isn’t exactly woo, but it requires that the immensely powerful machine intelligences running at the end of time will have nothing better to do than simulate eons-dead human minds.
Also that the phrase “for an eternity of torture” never creeps in anywhere.
OzarkHillbilly
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Fingers crossed for you and everyone else out there.
Ken
@sanjeevs: There may have been primaries for other offices, bond issues, etc. that would give voters a reason to ask for the (R) ballot.
Another question is whether they pre-printed them with an “X” next to Trump’s name, or bothered to add a write-in line.
O. Felix Culpa
@satby: I’m with you. I’m disappointed with Liz’s showing, but hugely RELIEVED that a Democrat is taking the lead. I didn’t realize how stressed I was about a potential Bernie candidacy until now. Many thanks to Clyburn, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, O’Rourke et al who coalesced around Biden – and to Warren, who murdered Bloomberg’s candidacy in its crib.
O. Felix Culpa
@rikyrah: Truth.

@geg6: Fellow Outlander watcher here! Been reading those books since the late 90s as a teen, so it’s a hoot to watch them finally be brought to life.
RE: last night, I was a little shocked at the increased turnout in Virginia. Then again, I can easily imagine a fair number of suburban white voters who would normally be Rs being turned off by the crassness of the Orange One and comforted by the stability of Uncle Joe.
Quiltingfool
Good morning to all. Little late here as I’ve been cruising around the Internet; I love me some Liz, but, sadly, it’s not going well for her. I’m not surprised, though. She is so qualified to be a leader, smart, passionate, empathetic; right now, people are scared and they aren’t willing to chance the presidency and they believe that a woman candidate will tank. Don’t like it, but I get it. People want Trump OUT, period. They know Biden. They like him. Yeah, he’s an old white guy, but people know him and there aren’t any surprises. Now, the GOP may turn on the burners to get him on Ukraine, but not sure that will work too well at this point. Voters heard all that a couple of months ago, and yet, they still voted for him in large numbers. If they thought Biden was dirty, I don’t see them voting the way they did. People are tired of the Trump shit in their faces, every damned day. I hate to admit this, because I’d like to think I’m a good person, but every morning when I check the Internet, I secretly hope the ferret-headed shitgibbon has “shuffled off the mortal coil.” Very bad, I know, I keep reminding myself not to wish for that, because “be careful what you wish for, unintended consequences, etc.”. But still…
Well, my thoughts on that. Time now to go load a quilt top on my quilting machine frame and get it done! My Etsy store needs more merchandise! Haha!
