Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Second rate reporter says what?

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

People are complicated. Love is not.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

T R E 4 5 O N

The words do not have to be perfect.

The willow is too close to the house.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

I appreciate his songs, but Mr. Fogerty does not sing like he used to.  Still I closed my eyes and had several minutes of bliss.  I had most of their CDs, so it is off to find them in my iTunes library.

I was really disappointed how at how a number of the comments on Matarazzo’s tweet were stupid fat jokes because he does such a good job of this.

Saw a hooded oriole on the yard today.  Very colorful, with mostly orange/yellow feathers and black wings.  Apparently they nest here (San Diego) for the summer, after spending the winter in Baja.   They seem to like palm trees for their nests.  This one was only passing through, unfortunately for me.

For the first time in its history, Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay flew an all-female helicopter crew.

A McKinleyville Coast Guard unit is highlighting their first all-female helicopter crew in celebration of Women’s History Month, Saturday.

According to Women In Aviation International, “while the amount of women in the U.S. Aviation Field is still small with women only representing about seven percent of the total pilot population, the number of women involved is steadily increasing and women are represented in nearly every aviation occupation today.”

Coast Guard Sector Humboldt Bay was able to achieve an aircrew consisting solely of women due to an increase of female Coast Guardsmen at the unit.

“The Coast Guard is striving to increase the number of women in the organization overall, not only in aviation,” said Lt. Audra Forteza, a Sector Humboldt Bay aircraft commander. “It’s wonderful that our small unit has enough females that we can show young women in the community that they do have these kind of opportunities and hopefully we can inspire them to pursue their career dreams and grow up to be whatever they want to be.”

Sector Humboldt Bay’s area of responsibility consists of 250 miles of rugged coastline from the Mendocino-Sonoma County line north to the California-Oregon border.

If any of you jackal gamer-types are interested in trying out Final Fantasy XIV, please ping me! I can pass on bonus codes that give goodies for invitees and inviters.

If any of y’all are playing and on the Aether data center, ping me! I’ve been running maps, ocean fishing, crafting up a storm, and even dipping my toe into savage raiding.

(Ocean fishing is SO MUCH FUN! Got my Au Ra boy in his jeans, Uggs, beanie and sweater. Last night I hit 10k points for the shark mount.)

Far from halal but could see braising spare rib tips and finishing them in the sauce.

Possibly even poaching scallops in it.

It seemed to me that if Fogerty really did record that outside, that is great mic work.

It sounded much more like in a studio.

Anne, thank you for leaving that link to the Bobi Wine song the other day, https://twitter.com/i/status/1242850597067542531

i included it in a newsletter i regularly send to 200 clients and friends.  one of my clients conducts research in Africa, and was just finishing up a 12-page report to his 80 researchers there, on what they can do to inform people and also stay safe.  he included the very link you posted, as part of his report.

so, if i may say so, it’s sort of like from your fingertips to Africans’ ears!  all within a few days, when time is the scarcest commodity.
