On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
With only one photo and no description, it’s possible that this was a test submission from Sharks. But it’s such an absolutely gorgeous picture, who cares? If we see it again as part of a larger set, I won’t mind a bit!
Our celebration of beauty and joy continues, let’s make the most of today. ~WaterGirl
Sharks

uila
I was promised sharks in castles…
JPL
It is a beautiful photo.
mrmoshpotato
@uila: I was told there’d be cake.
mrmoshpotato
Yo, Goober! Where’s the meat?
Or maybe it should be “Where’s the pants?” these days, suggestive text.
WaterGirl
@mrmoshpotato: The cake will be served in the formal dining room.
WaterGirl
I love this picture so much. I love the light on the water at the end of the road, and the light at the top of the photo. It feels like I’m walking down that road.
BretH
I’d like to be there now, wherever there is.
WaterGirl
@BretH: I am picturing it being warm in that picture, or at least warm enough to want to be out walking. But the time stamp is 12/20, so I wonder if we will need to put our jackets on before we head out?
HinTN
The sun on the sea like that is … words fail me. Perhaps powerful is what I want. Thanks, Sharks!
eta
You got it, WG.
arrieve
I’d love to be walking down that road. I’m imagining a village at the end with a cafe near the water, and tea and a scone. (I think entirely too much about food while in lockdown.)
stinger
Love it.
Ben Cisco
That is a great photo.
Yutsano
@WaterGirl: Counternarrative: the picture is from the Southern hemisphere. Therefore it is quite warm as 12/20 (or 20/12) is summer solstice. At least I can see it that way. Look at all the greenery.
WaterGirl
@Yutsano: Excellent point!
I had noticed the greenery, too, and wondered about where it might have been taken and what the weather was. But it was early morning and that fell out of my head before I finished my comment.
“Sharks” may be a lurker because I didn’t find Sharks as a nym in the comments database, but if Sharks is ever in touch again, we can ask where this was taken.
Sharks, are you out there?
Betty
@WaterGirl: It’s never cold here in the afternoon. Some evenings in late December and January might call for a sweater. It is cooler at higher elevations, but Castle Comfort is on the west coast.
Betty
@Yutsano: Dominica is at 15 degrees north.
Betty
@WaterGirl: Not Sharks, but I have been living in Dominica since 1992. At one time I had an apartment at Castle Comfort. The name comes from the original estate, owned at one time by an Englishman. It is now a suburban development, not really a village. There are a few small hotels along the coast, all out of business since Hurricane Maria. Beau Bois is a little above Castle Comfort and features large houses owned by those cozy with our government .
WaterGirl
@Betty: Part of the mystery solved, anyway! Thank you.
J R in WV
@WaterGirl:
I’m not trying to start a fight, but I’m pretty sure that glow at the end of the road is clouds in the sky, not a lake or the sea. Could be wrong, but… still, looks like a cloud hanging in the sky, brightly lit, but still a cloud.
Will agree that it is a wonderful picture of a country road, somewhere.
Betty
@J R in WV: Nope, that’ is the sea with lots of glare in early afternoon
