Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

We still have time to mess this up!

The revolution will be supervised.

Nothing says ‘pro-life’ like letting children go hungry.

The words do not have to be perfect.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

This really is a full service blog.

The lights are all blinking red.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

    Dear Mr. Musk,

People come to this country in expectation of a better life.

    Please notice the “life” part.

    Thank you.

I am old enough to remember when these monsters were yelling about “death panels” because the ACA  required Medicare to pay if enrollees wanted to have conversations with their doctors about “advance directives” and now they want sacrifice grandma for “the economy”.

TPUSA – In order to reject $1.2 million you had to have at least had an expectation of getting $1.2 million if not having it already in hand. Somebody woke up to the scrutiny that is coming out of the PPP.

Elon Musk will be a hard one when it comes time to assign places in the tumbrels – should he be in the low-triple digit carts for the guillotine, or simply crammed into a spacecraft and fired into the Sun?

Just tuning in to the beginning of Across 110th Street (1972) on TCM to catch the great theme song by Bobby Womack. Movie is actually pretty good for the blaxploitation genre.

The Mike/Mother Pence mask thing might not go away.

Karen Pence told @foxandfriends this morning that @VP was not made aware of the @MayoClinic mask policy until his visit was over. This contradicts a Mayo tweet that he was made aware of the policy before beginning his visit.
    — John Roberts (@johnrobertsFox) April 30, 2020

All of us who traveled with him were notified by the office of @VP the day before the trip that wearing of masks was required by the @MayoClinic and to prepare accordingly. https://t.co/LFqh27LusD

Ben Shapiro is an idiot. The average life expectancy of an 81-year-old American woman is about 9 years, not “she should have died last year” as his words would imply.

Dying at 81 is not necessarily tragic, nor is it necessarily terrible. But if Grandma’s death is caused by, say, irresponsible policies of the president, her state’s governor, or just an irresponsible neighbor who thinks there are only rights and no responsibilities associated with citizenship, then her death is, indeed, tragic and if it is from COVID-19, then it is almost certainly terrible.

Shapiro seems to think that an 80-year-old has ten minutes to live and an 81-year-old should have died last year. But, then, he’s a Republican, so idiocy is required!

More examples the Republicans are just a pack of useless, lazy idiots and nothing more

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/georgia-drivers-test-parents-permission/

Georgia is now allowing people to get their drivers’ licenses without having to take a driving test during the coronavirus pandemic. Qualifying teenagers in the state just need their parents’ permission to get one.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed an executive order last week that is still in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The road test requirement has been waived for teens applying for driver’s licenses, but other requirements such as completing necessary driving hours with parents is still required, according to Georgia’s Department of Driver Services.

@Boris Rasputin (the evil twin): If you have a valid photo id in most places, you can vote.  My son can’t drive but he has a valid photo id that he can use in place of a driver’s license.  He can’t vote either because of the plenary guardianship.
