Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

White supremacy is terrorism.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

“woke” is the new caravan.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

All hail the time of the bunny!

It’s a good piece. click on over. but then come back!!

Find someone who loves you the way trump and maga love traitors.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

In my day, never was longer.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Giving up is unforgivable.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Today's Laugh/Cry

Further evidence that the President and his team are a bunch of fucking idiots:

President Trump was pushing to get out in the public eye in recent weeks and tout his leadership during the pandemic, and White House staff thought they had hit on the ideal event: a presidential visit to thank the Pennsylvania factory workers who had recently taken herculean steps to ramp up U.S. supplies of protective equipment.

Workers had received national attention after dozens of them lived for 28 days inside their factory so they could ensure they were virus-free and their production was not contaminated or disrupted by illness.

White House officials pressed to hold an event at the Braskem factory, initially scheduled for last Friday. But after extensive back and forth, factory officials ultimately asked to postpone, worried that a visit from Trump could jeopardize both the safety of the workers and the plant’s ability to produce special material for masks and other medical gear, according to two people familiar with the decision and documents reviewed by The Post.

First off, the last fucking thing any of these factories need is a bunch of idiots tromping through them in the midst of a pandemic. Any normal, sentient human being would have understood this already.

But what makes this extra special amazing is that President Shit-For-Brains, desperate to Leni Riefenstahl his ass out of this mess, can’t even do that because of his own idiotic bravado of refusing to wear a mask. The last god damned thing any company that has quarantined their staff for months to safely produce sterile equipment will do is allow this dipshit and his team of choads to flounce off Pox Force One, refuse to wear masks and gloves, and then drool all over everything in sight.

That WaPost article was masterfully written.  Before these passages appear, it was a litany of all the maskless and contagious visits to which Trump and Pence subjected their hosts.  Braskem was watching carefully throughout.

Trump had no face covering on May 5 when he visited a Honeywell plant in Arizona that produces N95 respirators, which the White House featured in a campaign-style video. Nor did aides joining him, including Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, or top executives at Honeywell, despite the plant’s general mask policy.

The White House was aiming for a similar event last Friday at the Braskem plant in Marcus Hook, Pa., a factory that made a special fabric used in making protective masks, gloves and other gear.

Factory officials were initially excited about the idea of hosting a president but also had reservations, according to the two people familiar with the planning talks, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal discussions.

The plant officials told the White House advance team that they doubted their workers could attend the event. It was too risky for them — and would run counter to the effort they had taken by self-quaratining.

The White House then suggested that a few corporate officials could join the president, the people said.

Factory officials said they didn’t feel comfortable bringing the president and his entourage, which included a detail of several Secret Service agents, inside the plant, in part because social distancing would be hard to maintain. In response, the White House proposed holding the event in the adjoining open-air parking lot.

Ultimately, company officials suggested rescheduling after the pandemic was over, saying that a visit from the president was just too risky at this time.

Trump and Pence have repeatedly resisted guidance to wear masks as the virus has spread. When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged Americans to begin wearing cloth face coverings in public in early April, the president made it clear he did not plan to follow that advice.

“I don’t think I’m going to be doing it,” Trump said. “Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens — I just don’t see it.”

The president has told others he dislikes masks and thinks they suggest weakness, said two people familiar with internal discussions. The tone set at the top has led many White House officials and senior advisers to similarly avoid using masks. Pence said he didn’t wear a mask when he visited the Mayo Clinic because he wanted to look the doctors and staff “in the eye.”

And Pence’s eye is  …. where??

Yeah, Attorney General is important, too, and boss of the FBI.  But they’re often not there very long…

I’m sure that anybody in a position of authority at Braskem saw what all the rest of the world saw when the attention whore in chief went traipsing all over Honeywell touching raw material and finished products contaminating every square in within his path of destruction. The blaring Live and Let Die reinforced the sheer awfulness and high risk behavior and need to deep clean and throw out what had been safe sterile products not to mention possibly infecting the workers. Braskem respected the sacrifices their workers made in self isolating on the job. That’s a model to follow. Just say no to the plague rat in chief.

My labmates setting up the traditional post-defense party were pissed; they were nowhere near ready once I emerged from the exam.

(A few weeks prior, our research center gave a long presentation to convince NSF to keep giving us money. I gave one of the technical talks, which was basically my thesis. After all the rehearsals and then the actual presentation, everyone had heard the damn thing probably a dozen times and had gone through it in excruciating detail. Enough was enough.)

Trump demanded the cameras be moved so that he could be filmed from his good side. Sonnenfeld said, we can’t do that, we don’t have time. trump said, then I’m not doing it, so BS said, “Fine” and moved on to the next celeb. trump hung around for fifteen minutes and finally came back and said, “All right, I’ll do it”, and BS told him it was too late, they’d moved. and that’s where I first encountered — but her lack of experience and ostentatious efforts to get the VP nod should give her boosters pause. It’s long been true that female politicians have been unfairly denigrated for appearing overly ambitious, but one needs to be a bit more subtle than Abrams.

    2. They are dumb as decayed tree stumps.

@TS (the original): Umm, really Kamala has far more national/executive experience than Abrams. Given the age of Biden, I do think this is a serious concern. And as much as I loathe Trump and his spectacular stupidity, he is also a walking argument for actual professional political experience. I refuse to buy the notion that “politics” is a dirty word. There will be politics one way or another, it can be civilized or it can be at the point of some random individual or random armed group’s gunpoint.

“Trump’s Feeling Is, ‘Why Are We Losing Everywhere?’”: With Advisers Feuding and Numbers Plummeting, Trump Eyes Campaign Shake-up – Brad Parscale (and his Ferrari) is in the hot seat. Kushner is pushing for Nick Ayers, and against a Corey Lewandowski return. But whose fault are the disastrous swing state numbers? (Gabriel Sherman, May 11, 2020)
    That’s a rhetorical question, I presume.
    This is also funny:

As Trump debates who should lead his campaign, he’s also struggling to settle on a 2020 strategy. Some advisers are lobbying Trump to embrace the reopening. “They’re going to gamble on the economy and hope it works,” a former West Wing official said. But another camp is pushing the view that Trump should run on a blame-China message.

And it does not include the recent pivot to “Blame Obama”. Who will, if pushed into media interviews, suck all the oxygen out of the lungs of the D.J. Trump 2020 campaign.

I know — I just feel that even bloated old alcoholic Yeltsin doesn’t really look like Trump because there’s a tiny gleam of humanity in him that Trump is devoid of. He did stand on the tank, we have to give him that. Trump couldn’t have done that in a million years.

@zhena gogolia: I would be fine with vengeance, personally, but I do agree with G&T that we need to temper our expectations.  I cringe every time somebody brings up criminal prosecution, not because I don’t think trump, and Barr, and probably a lot of other people have broken the law in spirit, I think we’re going to be disappointed if we make criminal convictions the standard of the Biden presidency, which is not yet a sure thing anyway. It seems like hardly a week goes by here that some otherwise sensible person takes a whack at the dead horse of “Obama went too easy on Wall St….”

I still think Trump will resign instead of taking a defeat in November.  If trying to blame China is the best they have, they have nothing (well we all know they have nothing.  In a sane, educated nation the margin would be 90-10, not 49-40.)

Starting a court battle with Obama is a fool’s errand, and Trumpov is just the fool to do it. Remind the public just before the election you’re Putin’s guy, and give Obama a reason to take the gloves off. It’s a fight I’d like to see.

[silly new ‘nym person]: “America” as a united country may be finished as a going concern.

You’re seriously arguing for the destruction of the United States? Interesting. (Also, hi new nym)

Naw, he’s just joshin’ with us. A fine American like him, he certainly knows the Dan’l Webster Rule:

Yes, Dan’l Webster’s dead—or, at least, they buried him. But every time there’s a thunderstorm around Marshfield, they say you can hear his rolling voice in the hollows of the sky. And they say that if you go to his grave and speak loud and clear, “Dan’l Webster—Dan’l Webster!” the ground’ll begin to shiver and the trees begin to shake. And after a while you’ll hear a deep voice saying, “Neighbor, how stands the Union!” Then you better answer the Union stands as she stood, rock-bottomed and copper-sheathed, one and indivisible, or he’s liable to rear right out of the ground.

@dww44: I didn’t like that, either. Warren and Abrams both put Biden in the position of (potentially) having to explain why didn’t pick at least one and probably both of them, with so many people, among the Bernie-left and the media, for different reasons, so eager to create difficult situations for Biden, our side shouldn’t be helping them. There’s nothing wrong with tact.
